From the words around the Internet right now, you'd think the Raiders just went 0-16.
Folks, calm down....it was one game.
For that matter, it was a preseason game, which ranks it somewhere with obscure memories of Pro Bowls and that American Bowl played in Berlin.
This was a game that was set up to measure how far the team had developed, how far the team has to go, and what needs help.
And contrary to the score, not everything was horrible.
JaMarcus Russell threw for over 150 yards. Both Zach Miller and Louis Murphy had over 70 yards in catches.
But the biggest problem today ...
After one horrible Raider game some fans are already calling for JaMarcus Russell's head.
Why? Did they even watch the game? Did they see how Russell played?
For once we can say the QB is not the problem with the Raiders.
JaMarcus Russell's performance was probably the only solid thing to come out of that game. Well I guess Desmond Bryant had a good game and we learned our safeties can tackle.
Why fix what's not broken? It's like drafting a running back in the first round when you already have a top ten rushing team.
Russell had a great game 12-for-18 for 153 yards. He ...
Just because the Saints preseason game brought the Raiders to the same low as parts of the last few seasons, that doesn't mean it will happen every game.
Look at this way: Sean Payton and the Saints have the Raiders' number. They clobbered the Raiders last season and they know how to execute against a generic Raiders defense.
If you think Defensive Coordinator John Marshall was going to pull out the stops, put any wrinkles in the game plan to show on film, that would have been a mistaken expectation. They went with a base defense or vanilla, take your pick.
Contrary to ...
This game sucked. What the hell kind of gameplan was this; let's see how many times we can turn the ball over and be pathetic.
How will Tom Cable explain this, "um, we suck. Sorry fans."
I mean, damn this was simply pathetic. I am horrified of the Chargers game now.
All we can do is turn the ball over in this. At least we'll have plenty of tape to look at and work on.
What are we going to do, and how do you start Michael bush, and give him one handoff?
That is not fair. He should've been used much, much more. Then ...
Halfway through the 2009 preseason for the Raiders and as fans we’ve seen some good things and some bad things but most disturbing is the fact that the team still can’t stop the run.
Reminiscent of a cold that you just can’t seem to shake, similar to having a sheet of flypaper stuck to your hand, the Oakland Raiders can’t dodge the fact that they’ve had great difficulty stopping the run for the past six years quickly going on seven.
Oakland has surrendered 150+ rushing yards per game, on average, for the better part of the last six years. To ask ...
For the Oakland Raiders, the annual "Battle of the Bay" matchup vs the 49ers ended up in surrendering 275 yards on the ground on their way to a 21-20 loss. One hundred-forty nine of those yards were to a rookie back named Glenn Coffee. If I were a 49er fan, I wouldn't get too excited, because Juan Valdez could have walked his pack mule through those holes for a buck twenty on the Raider defense that day.
After watching the game for the fourth time the thing that caught my ear was that, a reporter who talked to Defensive Coordinator John Marshall before the game, said that he was sending them ...
With a solid quarterback, there is always a safety outlet. If the quarterback is dealing with problems on timing, speed or accuracy, this group of players becomes just that much more important.
These are the players that have the task of killing time, ball control, those difficult third and one calls or pulling of complex plays designed for long gains.
For the Raiders, this is a field that holds a lot of promise for the team, the fans and the coaches. Again, the problem resides in how many of these will be donning a home jersey for the Raiders on Monday night ...
Pitching wins games. Surround that pitching with offense, you win championships. Well, the A's are certainly on the right track.
Though their staff is extremely young and relatively inexperienced, the A's will head into the 2010 season with a bright future. Mainly because they've got a young, talented, bright rotation in the works.
In the offseason prior to the 2009 season, General Manager, Billy Beane decided to see what would happen if he surrounded the pitching staff with good hitting. It didn't quite work out the way is was supposed to, mainly because the GM's timing was off by one year.
However, the intentions by the GM were ...
As the Raiders start preparing for the regular season, position battles will be fought for the purpose to make the team. Some players will be competing against one another, some will compete against time but most of the players all want to simply be one of the 53 players on the team roster after the final cutdown phase occurs.
From information via the Raiders, each position will be evaluated from the team standpoint. Obviously carrying multiple players for a simple position would not warrant consideration. But some positions, an injury is all that separates a player from the bench to ...
The dawning of a new era...in which lion and hyena...oh sorry. Too many Disney movies.
Sometimes the Raiders resemble a movie script, and it's not always a good one.
The catchphrase: "The dawning of a new era in which the Raiders team returns to significance, to say nothing of potential dominance." The question: Should we believe it this time?
Given the offseason changes in the AFC West and the Chargers' ongoing ability to blow their opportunities, there is a very real possibility that this could be the year for the Raiders.
The preseason has a couple weeks left, and here's a rundown of what some ...
