Every year, especially of late, it seems the Raiders are in the same position-in rebuilding mode and in need of serious upgrades and discipline on the field. The team did manage to pull off a few upsets against Philadelphia, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and Denver, but it will take more than a few lucky wins to establish some valid legitimacy.  You can blame it on Al Davis, Tom Cable, and the rest of the front office, but ultimately, the weight of responsibility rests on the players themselves. The discipline on both sides of the ball was a source of mockery and sub-par performance all ...
This isn’t a surprise. The Oakland Raiders have franchised defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the tune of $12.398 million for next year. Even if it was stupid to trade for a “right now” type of player when your team isn’t remotely close to “winning now,” it would have just compounded the problem if they had let him walk after a year. We didn’t understand the trade then and we still don’t. And that includes you too, New England Patriots. The Patriots are built to win now, their defense is sub-standard and the draft pick they got (first rounder in ...
As expected, the Raiders applied the franchise tag to defensive end Richard Seymour , as reported today by The Boston Herald .  The tag guarantees Richard Seymour $12.398 million this season, and is a clear symbol that the two sides were unable to work out a long-term deal. The Raiders really had to make this move, to justify the expense of bringing Seymour in (a first round pick in the 2011 draft).  It seems obvious the organization hopes to be able to sign him to a long-term deal, as one of the feature players on an otherwise mostly unimpressive Oakland ...
Everyone in the National Football League knows that the Oakland Raiders have to upgrade their offensive line this year. Not just at the right tackle position, but mostly everywhere. The Raiders could use another starting right guard, and the play at center from Chris Morris and Samson Satele has been average at best. Whilst the draft class of 2010 is stronger at the tackle position that on the interior of the line, there are some interesting prospects at all the offensive line positions. We have declined a long way from the days when Oakland’s offensive line could boast players such ...
The answer should be "football players", but it doesn't always work that way... The fact is that the NFL draft is a crap shoot at best.  You can take a guy that is a "can't miss" only to watch him fail miserably.  The guy in this picture can attest to that. You can take a chance on a guy in the sixth or seventh round and find a diamond.  Tom Brady,Terrell Davis, and Deacon Jones proved that. Knowing this, what should scouts be looking for when evaluating a player in Indianapolis this week?  Should they look for the guy that runs a ...
It’s time to make the first go-round of the year by discussing the NFL Draft and making a prediction prior to the Combine this coming Saturday. Hey, this is all subjective analysis—there are too many so-called draft experts today that rely on Mel Kiper and Todd McShay. They may seem to know what’s going to happen ahead of time, but I would hope they know what they’re talking about—they do work for ESPN. As long as they give us a better version than Cris Carter. He is a former NFL player, not a draft expert. On draft weekend last year he sounded ...
According to a report by Adam Schefter on ESPN, the Raiders are looking to make some trades, and perhaps Nnamdi Asomugha could be involved. "The Oakland Raiders have had multiple discussions—with multiple teams—in an effort to see if they can unload any of their players, league sources said. It is similar to what the Raiders did last year, when they sought out trades with other teams, only to find few takers. The Raiders are open to dealing multiple players on their roster, including Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha . The problem is that Asomugha's contract makes ...
ESPN’s Adam Schefter (who is pretty much never wrong) reports that the Oakland Raiders are supposedly putting their entire team on the block. It’s not known if Al Davis has made himself available via trade as well. “Raiders been shopping much of their roster, including CB Nnamdi Asomugha. But his contract makes him untradeable. More details at ESPN.com,” he tweets. This isn’t completely shocking. Asomugha is considered “untradeable” because his contract guarantees him either the franchise number for cornerbacks, or $16.875, whichever number is greater. Asomugha is a stud, but that’s a lot of dough. We’re trying to think who ...
What is more difficult in your opinion, an airplane lifting off the airfield or a plane descending, heading for a crash? The power to rise up and above certain elevations is more difficult than descending to lower levels. Great players in college like JaMarcus Russell surely worked hard to rise up to the level of excellence perceived by so many, and at first qualified him for the contract that he has. Once he joined the team, his slide downward took less time, and virtually little effort. Of the fifty year history of the Raiders, most of those years were years in which hard work and ...
Passing blame and judgment is easy, especially in unfavorable situations. And that blame often falls on authority figures and people in position of power. For years, the masses and media blamed President Bush and those in power for the state of the economy, unemployment, and even obesity. Now with Barack Obama in power, nothing has been changed but the people we place blame on. Yet no one ever stops to think maybe blame lies in the corrupt system that's been in existence for decades, an unmotivated and under-qualified workforce, or people lacking self-control and nutritional education. Rarely do people ever consider our current ...
