Raiders head coach Tom Cable thinks his team is ready to take the next step towards becoming that playoff team that they want to be. Trouble for him and his team is that the season is over, so they will have to wait until the 2010 season to prove whatever it is he thinks they can prove. It was troubling times in 2009 for the future of the franchise, quarterback JaMarcus Russell. He lost two people who were close to him in a matter of months. The losses of his loved ones were sandwiched right between coming off a great six-game stretch at ...
When a kicker, who plays around 10 plays a game, makes more money than you do, you should be pissed. Not at Al Davis, but at yourself for allowing this to happen. Here's what Raider players (and others around the league) are saying about Janikowski's fat contract. Kirk Morrison: Well, I think he should use the money to hire a personal trainer. Have you seen him run? Usain Bolt could seriously give him a 39 yard head start and still beat him. Louis Murphy: Well, good for him. He's getting some major action with that dough.  Bruce Gradkowski: Maybe he will give some ...
It's draft time again, everybody has a mock draft and everyone is announcing their busts already. Lately it seems like everyone is mocking the Raiders previous drafts, including the 2007 draft that included Jamarcus Russell with the first overall pick. Let's not forget that there were other players chosen that year as well. Here is the list of the players chosen in the 2007 draft by the Raiders. Round 1. Jamarcus Russell Round 2. Zach Miller Round 3.Quentin Moses, Mario Henderson, Johnnie Lee Higgins Round 4. Michael Bush, John Bowie Round 5. Jay Richardson, Eric Frampton Round 6. Oren Oneal Round 7. Johnathan Holland.   Russell has this  year to show ...
The Raiders have drafted some key players on offense in the last 5 years. Some players haven't fully developed like Al Davis hoped, and some have developed into better players than we could have imagined. The Raiders have brought in Offensive Coordinator Hue Jackson, to help an offensive unit that last year basic, and too predictable. The Raiders offense struggled with a horrible line, and with young QB Jamarcus Russell trying to learn the game, with two rookie WR's learning on the job as well. Though at times it may be frustrating watching all our young talent go through the ...
Every team in every sport has nicknames for their favorite players and coaches. Some make sense and some leave us scratching our heads. Bill Cowher certainly has a "Chin", but Lou Pinnella is anything but "sweet". One thing they all have in common is that these monikers are the most sincere expression of the fan's love for their favorite players and coaches. For decades Raider fans have been at the forefront of this wonderful ritual. They always use the most creativity, humor and understanding of the game and the Raider mystique to coin the most appropriate nicknames for their beloved Raider ...
All fans are closet general managers. We all have a plan in our minds that if followed will make our team successful. As a Raider fan, I think there is not one magical plan, but several possible scenarios in which the team can make drastic improvement. Let's examine them from an if this, then that perspective.   Plan A The Raiders aggressively pursue offensive linemen in free agency. They throw big money at Donald Penn, Logan Mankins, Willie Colon, Jahri Evans, Chris Chester, and Alex Barron, managing to land at least two of these players. In this scenario there is now no need to draft an ...
The NFL Combine and Draft are fast approaching. We are all waiting to see how these guys will preform and what team will draft them. With this in mind, I decided that I was going to do one more mock before these two events took place. I want to start this one a little different. So, here we go...........................Begin Slideshow
How many people can say that their name is a representation of their life in some way? Let’s look at Jim Otto’s last name: OTTO. If you read his name from left to right, it spells OTTO. It is a palindrome so if you read it from right to left it still spells OTTO. If you reflect (flip) the name with respect to the x axis, it still spells OTTO. And, if you flip the name in the vertical direction, or y axis, it still spells OTTO. Well, John Madden’s Foreword in the book, The Pain of Glory, written by Otto and Dave Newhouse, ...
I don't know what JaMarcus Russell is like off the field. He may have a good personality, I don't know.  But we all know what he's like on the field. That's why JaMarcus deserves the title of Least Valuable Player . Why is JaMarcus deserving of that title?  Not only is he a terrible starting quarterback at this point, he shows no intensity. He shows no fire. I've never seen him really get mad on the field. I've never seen him show the competitiveness that he needs to show. He hasn't bashed himself like he should. Instead, he's turned to his teammates. He showed his ...
With the off-season two weeks in, my first official NFL Mock Draft is here. Overall the past few weeks, rumors have continued to spread within the top ten, concerning what major needs teams will fill. There is a great crop of offensive lineman this year, which in this mock draft has taken over the top ten with a few joining the elite group. Where shall Okung, Davis, Campbell, and Bulaga land? Here is the third edition of the 2010 NFL Mock Draft.Begin Slideshow
