The Last Call—A Wake-Up Call Are there signs of progress in the career of JaMarcus Russell? Is he dazzled by the fortune he has received? Does he realize the risks he is taking if he does not come up to par in performance on the playing field in 2010? Does he realize that even Al Davis may "boot his butt off the team" if he does not get in the game and act like he wants to win games for the Oakland Raiders? Somebody said that "crazy" is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Will Russell continue to take risks and end up a bust in 2010? Doesn't he ...
With the Raiders recent acquisition of Kamerion Wimbley a good deal of questions have rose: What will his role be on the defense? Was he brought in to play linebacker or defensive end? Could the Raiders be switching to a 3-4? Some people have suggested that since Mike Haluchak(Raiders current linebacker coach) was Wimbleys' linebacker coach in Cleveland that means Wimbley will be playing linebacker in Oakland. Likely on the strong side. Others have suggested that this also means the Raiders may be switching to the 3-4; since Haluchak coached a 3-4 in Cleveland. Wimbley is an interesting prospect to play linebacker. He has great size ...
Without taking any possible trades into consideration, this is my first look at what might happen in this years NFL Draft. 1. St. Louis Rams: Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre Dame Marc Bulger is not and never has been the answer at QB. After seeing the success of rookie QBs in recent years the Rams will have to take one with the first pick. Clausen makes the most sense here because of his experience in a pro-style offense at Notre Dame. Historically QBs who played in a pro-style offense in college have had better success than those who did not. 2. Detroit Lions: Russell ...
Is there politics in the rule-making in the NFL? Have some of the rules been designed to hinder the Oakland Raiders? Before you say "no", let's look at history. Let's develop a framework for this discussion. Framework: An example Someone wrote me on Bleacher Report and asked what my heritage was. I answered him in a general way, but I emphasized that in America, I am simply an African-American. Looking at the census mail today, and thinking about the question on ethnicity or race, I know that in earllier history the classifications and rules for placing someone in one category or another were purely political. ...
Justin Fargas, son of Antonio Fargas (who was Huggy Bear in Starsky and Hutch), was born Jan. 25, 1980, in Encino, California. He attended Notre Dame High in Sherman Oaks, California. There, he broke various school records. He rushed for 6,357 on 668 carries and 82 TDs. Averaging 9.5 yards a carry, he was a top tailback in the state. In 1997, he was named Parade All-American, USA Today All-USA first team, Super Prep National 50, The Sporting News Top 100, Super Prep All-American, Prep Star Dream Team, Prep Star All-American, ESPN/National Recruiting Advisor All-American second team, Super Prep All-Farwest, Prep Star ...
This year the Raiders have a few holes they need to fill. I would say the Raiders biggest needs are: The whole right side of the offensive line. A run stuffing DT. A nickel corner. And some added depth all around. But with Al Davis you never know what will happen. As he seems to just pick the biggest fastest players he can find. Trying to build a team with the idea that: You can teach someone how to play football, but you can't teac someone to run a 4.3 40-time. Heres how I think the Raiders draft should unfold.Begin Slideshow
Raider Nation, this is the exclusive first interview with JaMarcus Russell at the Oakland Raiders facility in Alameda. Russell spoke with Comcast SportsNet's Kate Longworth as he left the team's facility on Tuesday Mar. 16th. To hear what he said, click here I actually like what he said, you decide.Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
As anyone who has read my articles knows, I have been on quite a hiatus. I am no longer (justifiably) a featured columnist on Bleacher Report, though I hope to return to that status in the future when time and life allow. I wanted to touch base with my awesome Raiders community and weigh in on a few things that have happened thus far this offseason. Although we've been relatively quiet, there are a few things worth mentioning.   The Hiring of Hue Jackson Ecstatitc. Couldn't be happier to have a play caller come in to relieve some pressure from Coach Cable, and Jackson ...
More than 200 players who thought they would break the bank and become unrestricted free agents are now restricted free agents due to the uncapped year next season. Those players who thought they would be able to go out and test the market for their services are restricted free agents now and have high or low tenders behind their names.  That means if they are signed to an offer sheet by another team, that team must give up the draft pick or picks to which each player was assigned unless their current team matches the offer within seven days. The Raiders had 17 free agents on their current roster. 12 of them are restricted ...
Spring Training is a time for veterans to renew their Major League routine and for rookies to both show off and learn. I was learning myself, being a rookie fan, visiting Spring Training down in Arizona for the first time. While only there for three games, I made plenty of observations.   1) In 2010, the A's will be running every bit as much as they did last year after the All-Star Break. Leading the pack of the "Runnin' A's" will be the same man as last year: Rajai Davis. The A's aren't afraid this Spring to let Davis show off his ...
