Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

Throughout their illustrious history, the Oakland Raiders made huge successes out of players other teams didn't want. It was their trademark. Whether they acquired those players through trades, or simply picked them up of the Pro Football waiver wire, it always seemed to work. Players who were almost at the end of their careers would come to Oakland and be great again for two or three more years. Thats one of the reasons I loved the Raiders from the day I first saw them play. Once a Raider, always a Raider as the saying goes. Many players who only spent a few ...
"I'm going to attempt to drown myself...You can try this at home...You can be just like me." Eminem-1998 When Al Davis heard this line come out, he said, "Yo, that is soooo me." And every single, first round pick since then has been a direct reflection of those lyrics. Al Davis is trying to drown the Raiders. So, with that in mind, I'm going to give us all something to look forward to. It's a mock draft that we can all agree we don't want to happen. Here goes nothing.   With the number 8 pick in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, The ...
In my last article, I looked at the Mariners bullpen candidates. This is a roundup of rumors and moves by the Raiders this offseason. If you had not heard, the Oakland Raiders tendered several restricted free agents, including quarterback Bruce Gradkowski.  This is after the Raiders had tagged DL Richard Seymour and made K Sebastian Janikowski the highest-paid kicker in NFL history. It should be noted however, that the Seahawks tagged K Olindo Mare and the Steelers tagged kicker Jeff Reed, which would indicate that many in the league are realizing the importance of a good kicker. The others tendered are linebackers Thomas Howard, Kirk Morrison, Ricky Brown; long-snapper Jon Condo; safety Hiram Eugene; and ...
Nnamdi Asomugha is a fan favorite and arguably the best player on the Raiders defense. Many consider him as: a shut-down corner, the best in the league, and maybe even the best ever. But I have to disagree. Nnamdi may even be considered a draft bust. As he was drafted to play free-safety not corner. A dominant safety like Ed Reed, Brian Dawkins, or Troy Polamalu are far more influential than a dominant corner like Nnamdi Asomugha, Charles Woodson, or Darrelle Revis. But that is beside the point. Nnamdi failed as a safety and now he is a corner. As a corner, with his safety ...
I've always wondered why so much stock is put into 40-yard dash times. We hear it all the time: "Speed kills." It's obvious that a player needs to have a lot of quickness and speed to compete in the NFL. Without pointing fingers (although I'm staring directly at Al Davis), some teams put more stock in the 40 than in college film. It's almost as if any track athlete could step onto the field at the NFL Combine in shorts, having never played a snap of football, run one of the best 40-yard dash times at the combine, and end up getting drafted in ...
Raider Nation should enjoy this; another report coming from Adam Schefter from ESPN says that Justin Fargas and Gerard Warren will be released shortly to avoid paying out a roster bonus. If these moves are true, they make a lot of sense. Warren has been part of the problem with the running game; he has been in the league for 10 years. It appears that the Raiders are looking to go young on the inside. Coach Tom Cable has said he is looking to get stronger along the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. If Warren is released, you'd ...
Should we only be talking about JaMarcus Russell and Brad Gradkowski when discussing the starting quarterback job in Oakland ?  I say no. There has been a lot of speculation and opinion written about who is the best player for the starting quarterback job in Oakland. I've read every argument and every angle printed here on B/R and other sites as well. Some of the articles make legitimate points, some don't. I have been just as guilty of jumping on the "Bruce Almighty" band wagon and raking Russell over the coals as anyone else. While others are just as guilty, I have ...
The Oakland Raiders gave their strongest indication yet that Kirk Morrison might be on his way out in the East Bay by giving him an "original pick" tender in free agency. That means that any team signing Morrison to an offer sheet would have to give the Raiders a third round pick.  If that doesn’t sound like Oakland puts much value on Morrison, it’s actually worse than it sounds. Morrison is scheduled to make $2.5 million in 2010.  So Oakland could actually have put a second round tender on his for the same money. Translated, that means they are trying to get someone ...
The Raiders have alot of holes on their team which also means they have alot of options in the draft. "Experts" and fans alike have countless opinions on who the Raiders will select with the 8th pick of the draft. Heres a look at some of the players who have been seen going to the Raiders in mock drafts. As well as arguments for and against each player. Begin Slideshow
