Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

The Oakland Raiders aquired Kamerion Wimbley and sent a 3rd round 2010 draft pick to the Cleveland Browns two weeks ago. Wimbley played outside linebacker for the Browns and recorded 11 sacks his rookie year. In college Kamerion played DE and was considered a can't miss pick in the 2006 draft. Unfortantley no one said he was a can't miss pick for an outside linebacker. So the main question now is where do you put your newly aquired player? The Raiders are most likely going to have Trever Scott, DE/LB, at the weakside linebacker position this upcoming season. Scott has risen the bar in sack totals from five his rookie year to seven ...
Wouldn't it be great to make nearly $111 million a year simply to play a game? Tiger Woods, along with many other professional athletes, certainly think so. But do these athletes really deserve all that money? In my mind, absolutely not. Professional athletes are making too much money in a society where salaries and wages are traditionally based on the value of one's work. In today's society, one should be paid according to the job’s economic importance and their value to society. Teaching is one of the most economically important occupations because our future economy relies on the education of its youth, yet ...
A vision precedes the manifestation of what is seen. Al Davis and the coaches have to have a working model in their heads. They have to have a clear idea of what kind of team they need, and they have to simulate in their heads what kind of results they expect in 2010. That's why the NFL draft is so important. The selections for the Oakland Raiders have to fit the context of the vision of a winning team.  Of course, if you have never been a part of a winning team, then it may be more difficult to envision what is needed to ...
For the past three seasons, the Raiders have selected three great players that have greatly impacted the team. They all happened to be selected in the fourth round of the draft. In 2007, the Raiders took Michael Bush, a former potential first rounder. Due to a serious leg injury in his senior year in college, his stock dropped. The injury carried on into his professional career as he sat out his entire rookie season. Since coming back, Bush has had quite the impressive stats while being a part of a three-runningback system with Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden, rushing for 1010 ...
The quarterback controversy for the Oakland Raiders remains a hot topic amongst every Raider fan that bleeds silver and black. JaMarcus Russell has all the tools, and yet Bruce Gradkowski has all the desire. Going into the 2009 season, many Raiders fans and even the sports media believed that the Raiders had a chance to be competitive or at least give NFL and Raider fans alike something fun to watch. Instead, we were subjected to more of the same anemic offense under JaMarcus Russell, until coach Tom Cable benched Russell in favor of Bruce Gradkowski. In only a few starts, Gradkowski gave the sports world a reason to believe that ...
Research reveals that the Oakland Raiders team page on the Bleacher Report is one of the most active pages. Articles about the Oakland Raiders are posted often and opinions are set forth in the atmosphere, giving an aroma of life, death, and indifference. Which position do you take? Is it that your words speak life, death, or is there silence? On this Sunday afternoon which is a special day for some people, I awakened with a thought in my mind. After reading so many blog entries and BR articles, I realize, too, that words have power. What is a word? It is a sound or symbol on paper or computer ...
For years, the Chargers-Raiders rivalry has been well documented. Often it is a horrible event that causes further irritation. Yeah wer'e both in the AFC West. Yeah, there's been tension since the 60's. Yeah, the Raiders fans have a nasty reputation. But, people are people, and quite honestly, I have a lot of respect for the Raiders fans,  they fully support their team in a season of 4-11 or a Super Bowl title. Raider Nation is alive and well, and coming from a die hard Charger fan, its a very unbiased opinion. So, this season when I had bought tickets to the Chargers/Raiders game ...
Al Davis, when he wants to be a tactical genius, can be really, really good. When he wants to be as mean as a junkyard dog, he can fit that personality as well. It has been said that when you're a friend of Al Davis, he will go out of his way for you...and if you have an enemy in Al Davis, he will do everything in his power to remove you—from ignoring you in press conferences to trading you away. With the Draft ahead and free agency over with (for the most part ), everyone can breathe a sigh of relief, right? Don't ...
Do you need some fresh fruit in your life, Raider Nation? What about a few more victories in 2010 for the Oakland Raiders? So much time and attention is being spent on selecting the right combination of talent for the Raiders. The expectation, once this selection process is complete, is more victories, an increase in rankings in all categories, and any other sweet outcomes we can garner this year. The beautiful fruit known as the pomegranate once grew in Fifth Ward in Houston, Texas. No doubt these trees were planted by early immigrants from the Middle East. During my childhood, my friends ...
Coming into an uncapped year, most teams seem to be holding onto their free agents. At least for now. One of the more active teams releasing players this year is the Philadelphia Eagles. They've released former starters like Will Witherspoon, Brian Westbrook, Shawn Andrews, Darren Howard, and Kevin Curtis. They are also reportedly trying to trade one of their three quarterbacks. I'm not suggesting that the Raiders should make a move for Michael Vick (though that is an interesting thought). What I'm suggesting is that maybe they should sign some of the players they just released. Will Witherspoon could have filled a hole at ...
