Al Davis made a presentation at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, in 2006. The win-loss record for the Oakland Raiders in that same year was four wins, and 12 losses. How do you think Davis feels now, having been given one of the highest honors in professional football (he was enshrined in 1992), yet his team had the worst win-loss record in a seven-year period? We look back, using hindsight. Here is the data to remind you "how stuck on stupid" this may have seemed to a lot of people: Year     Wins     Losses 2009     5         11 2008     5         11 2007     4         12 2006     2         14 2005     4         12 2004     5         ...
Since 2003, the Oakland Raiders have been in the NFL's dumpster, frequently the target of jokes by fans and fans posing as professional journalists. In the previous years, the Raiders have loaded up on crusty veterans with bloated contracts. in 2010 however, the Raiders may still have bloated contracts, but the Raiders are quietly developing a corp of young players that could catch NFL fans by surprise in 2010. Here they are.Begin Slideshow
This will be the final mock that I will do before the draft unless there is a big trade. The Raiders have completed their big board and are ready to go. This mock has them making one draft day trade that will shock and amaze a lot of people but it will really help the team in the long run. Without further ado, let’s get to it……………………………Begin Slideshow
Currently, Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed has been contemplating retirement due to neck injuries over the past few years. At the same time, the Ravens have a window of opportunity to replace Reed with a rookie that could be just as good, if not better. That rookie is Tennessee safety Eric Berry. He is likely to be selected in the top 10 of next Thursday's NFL Draft. Here's the catch. The Ravens likely won't move until the day of the draft in order to see if Berry is still available, rather than trade up beforehand and thus reveal its hand. The Ravens have the ...
The franchise began as the Minnesota franchise of the new American Football League in 1959. In an all out effort to stop the new league the established NFL expanded into the Twin Cities with the Vikings and into Dallas with the Cowboys. Lamar Hunt's Dallas Texans made the decision to stay put in Dallas and compete with the older league but the cash strapped ownership group in Minneapolis decided their odds would be better in the San Francisco east bay area. With the local newspaper, the Oakland Tribune, a contest was held to name the new franchise. The winner was ...
It's an odd year to be at number eight in the first round. There is a clear cut top six players, but after that things are far more difficult to predict and the who thing gets quite clouded You could pick a player at eight who could still be there at twenty, or even twenty eight. Fans will be hopeful, having heard Tom Cable speak yesterday about 'line of scrimmage issues' on both sides of the ball, and about the offensive line especially, that the Raiders will go in that direction. But if so, when? It might not be in the ...
Oakland made another offseason move, pulling in a wayward quarterback in Kyle Boller, after his fall from the Ravens landed him in St Louis. To a degree, one has to guess that this takes the Raiders off of the QB hunt, but this might be simply to protect the team if Jimmy Clausen or Tim Tebow are off the boards in the first and second rounds, respectively. So, what are the Raiders going to concentrate on? A lot has been made of the Raiders looking to the offensive tackle position, with names like Bruce Campbell making the circuit. The guy is an animal, ...
The A's know what they have in Brett Anderson. Two scoreless starts into his second season, Anderson was granted a four-year extension with two option years, effectively buying out Anderson's first year of Free Agency. Multiple sources reported the extension quickly, but as far as I could tell, it was ESPN first reporting the annual salaries: 2010: $500,000, 2011: $1,000,000, 2012: $3,000,000, 2013: $5,500,000. Oakland also included club options for Anderson for $8,000,000 in 2014 and $12,000,000 in 2015. If Anderson proves to be the ace he's becoming the A's won't think twice about exercising those options. For the A's, this is clearly a seized ...
As the 2010 NFL Draft gets closer, the QB situation in Oakland gets cloudier. Instead of having their Franchise QB preparing for another season, the Raiders have instead added a fifth QB to their team roster (source: Raiders.com). So what does having so many QB's mean? For one, it means that only 3 will make it into the 2010 season. JaMarcus Russell has not emerged as a leader for his team. In fact, many speculate that he has not emerged as the starter for 2010. Coach Cable has openly stated that there will be a competition for the starting job. This ...
Once again, Raider Nation is all atwitter over the looming NFL draft. Questions and speculation abound within Raider Nation. Will this player or that player be available when we pick? Should we draft that "back-flipping" defensive end? Should we get that great cornerback? Why not take another quarterback? This is nothing new from the Raider Nation, but they're way off base in a lot of cases. In this article, I will lay out the Oakland Raider's team needs as seen by a former coach. Some of you will agree, some of you will not. Either way, this will be an unbiased ...
