I don't know about you, but I like Fantasy Football. What really gets me excited is when a Raiders player has a real chance at having an impact on a fantasy team. During the 2010 season, Zach Miller will have that opportunity. Miller has led the Raiders in receptions and yardage in each of his last two seasons and has quietly made a case for himself as a top 10 fantasy tight end. So far, only the infrequency of his trips to the end zone keeps him from being considered truly "elite." Things should improve considerably for Miller with a change at quarterback. With the Redskins last year, Jason ...
In my opinion, I think the Raiders had one of the best offseasons they have had in years. Probably all Raiders fans can agree with that. The JaMarcus Russell saga is behind us and a new future is held in Jason Campbell's hands. Whether you like it or not, Campbell will be the future of the Oakland Raiders franchise. I think Campbell will have a successful year. The receiving targets are projected to be Zach Miller, Louis Murphy, and Darrius Heyward-Bey. Chaz Schilens can also make an impact, but that's only if he can stay healthy, and to me, I don't trust him ...
Okay so I'm a little late with Part II of my season-long look into the lost art of the stolen base. You can read part I here as a template for what future articles in this series will look like (if you are a new reader of mine). For those that aren't, yes it's the same format. In a league where I'd like to see a 100-steal man, that is no longer possible as 80 has become the new 100 in terms of unattainable records. No one's stolen even that many since Vince Coleman's 81 in 1988 so why not make ...
The Oakland Raiders had by far their best offseason in years. Let's take a look at what they've done: Let Cornell Green walk. Released JaMarcus Russell. Had arguably the best draft this year. Acquired quarterback Jason Campbell for a mere 2012 fourth round selection. In my opinion, the latter of these was the most important. While I was a Russell supporter, I had been screaming for Jason Campbell for a year and a half now. We finally got him. The question is, is he the future for the Raiders? Some think not. They say he's not good enough. Others argue he has tremendous talent and size to succeed in the ...
At this point of the offseason most of the big name players are signed out of free agency and the draft was six weeks ago.  The Raiders, especially Tom Cable, have shot down reports/rumors that they were interested in Terrell Owens, the biggest free agent remaining, and they don't seem interested in OT Flozell Adams either. So how can the Raiders add any more talent to the current roster? It's simple, trades! Don't be surprised to see Al Davis strike a deal for a big star and give up a first round pick in 2012. Davis has been involved in some of ...
So far so good this offseason for the Oakland Raiders.  Critics will say that Raider Nation says that every year, but I can honestly say that 2010 has been different and for one simple reason—even non-Raider fans have been impressed. The Raiders must continue to improve however.  After finishing the last seven seasons with double-digit losses, it will take more than one draft weekend to cure the ills.  I know that we can all hope that the Raiders will have a magical season in which they beat the expectations, but the focus must be on the here and now and not, "maybe." With ...
The AFC West is going to be one of the most underrated divisions in 2010. After the San Diego Chargers have been dominating the division the past few years, it's time for a change. The AFC West has had many offseason changes, players wise, ans the Chargers, Broncos, Chiefs, and Raiders have all made big headlines. Whether its the Chargers letting Ladanian Tomlinson go or the Raiders signing Jason Campbell, there have been many changes. I highly doubt the AFC West will be poor in 2010 like in years past, but it is time for the present and not the ...
Am I lucky or what? I was thinking about the 11 Oakland Raiders who will faceoff in the 2010 season. I got busy and googled Superman and found this picture showing exactly 11 images. It was the best thing that happended to me this morning. I thought, we need our guys to perform somewhat like the Superman character over the years. Let's have a little fun. The Raider Nation needs an Oakland Raider to throw a football, accurately, fast and hard. A super-quarterback is what we need. Our quarterback must have the energy of a super hero. The Raider Nation needs a man who can run and turn like a ...
When doing a little scouting for information, I came across this little article regarding turnover rates for players and the ability to retain players: http://espn.go.com/blog/nfcwest/post/_/id/18906/where-every-nfl-team-ranks-in-turnover It showed the Raiders sitting at 12th overall, with the team keeping 83.1% of their players from last season with the club. Now some of this is pretty understandable...a team that is drafted and built for the long haul does have the advantage of knowing what sort of player is next to you. Does this guy run a good deep pattern? Does the Tight End make decent catches? Does the Corner know how to blanket a WR streaking ...
Lloyd C. A. Wells was one of the first African-American NFL scouts. He was born and raised in Houston, Texas. Most of his career in the NFL was spent with the Kansas City Chiefs working with Hank Stram. Later in his career, he worked for Muhammed Ali, one of the world champions in boxing. Wells would talk loud and hard to a couple of Oakland Raiders when they visited Houston, usually during the offseason in those days. Wells would brag that the Chiefs were going to beat the "heck" out of Oakland back in the day. Wells had connections with Otis Taylor, Warren Wells, ...
