The Oakland Athletics were hanging tight in the race for the American League West division title. After the past two series where the A's have lost five games out of six that were played, it has become clear the A's need to make some major adjustments.
That would involve making trades for a big time bat in the lineup. The only problem is, what self-respecting player would want to play for Bob Geren? This was shown by the most recent trade the A's have made.
Instead of getting a big bat from Arizona which has been rumored to be trading pretty much ...
Training camp is almost here Raider and NFL fans. It's the place where positions are set and jobs are won. Some competitions last longer than others, and some even happen twice in a row. Some are surprising and won't be listed here. Some are barely even competitions.
Either way, everyone will certainly get a fair shot to win their job.
Let the best man win...training camp starts July 28.Begin Slideshow
Today continues the legacy of Bob Geren's incompetency as the Oakland Athletics manager. How he got invited to be one of the managers in the all-star game by Joe Girardi is beyond me.
There's no manager in baseball as clueless as Geren is! Today's game is just another fine example of just how clueless Geren is on the bench.
In the top of the seventh inning, the Oakland A's took a 2-1 lead against the Chicago Cubs. Dallas Braden had his groove going and the Cubs were off balance against him. After throwing 27 pitches in the first inning Braden settled down.
He ...
From The Cover Two
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that you should spend a first round pick on a running back who has yet to break the 500-yard mark in his career, but I am going to sit here and tell you why you should not write him off entirely.
Oakland Raiders (don't run away just yet, just hear me out) former first round pick Darren McFadden, will have a breakout year this year.
Yes, I said it. The man who ran 104 times while gaining 357 yards in 2009 will breakout in the 2010 season and here is ...
Most things in life can be described as continuous or elastic, or as some type of function or its inverse.
Let's just say that the Oakland Raiders are seeking to regain their continuity and elasticity.
They are trying to construct an set of inverse functions to reverse the patterns of the past seven years.
For example something is continuous if it does not have holes or breaks and has no loss of mass. This definition is for the everyday reader.
Something is elastic if it undergoes a stretching or shrinking transformation and can return to its original form after the deformation.
And something can be reversed ...
A Good Offseason, but Still Some Work To Do!
In my previous article , I documented all the positive steps Al Davis, Tom Cable, and the Raiders organization have taken to bring the team back to respectability.
In the final step of that article, I stated that the coaches and players had to bring all the new and improved pieces together into one cohesive unit for the process to truly be complete. That is a true, yet incomplete statement.
There are still some areas in which the Raiders must improve in order to complete the transformation from AFC doormat to playoff power. ...
Quarterback Vince Young and running back Chris Johnson could very well be the co-MVPs for the Raiders next season.
How?
Are the Raiders planning on trading for the pair?
No!
The Raiders don't even have need for their positions.
Johnson is coming off of a 2,000 yard season and wants a big contract by any means necessary. Young has yet to see Roger Goodell after his involvement in a fight at a strip club.
It is very possible that neither one of the two even suit up for the Raiders Week One contest against the Titans. Young is a first time offender so he might play, but Johnson ...
With no more media availability untill training camp, this is the third and final edition of the offseason power rankings.
1) Nnamdi Asomugha
The guy continues to amaze me. All-pro, Check. Pro bowl? Check. Well-cultured? Check.
Now he's a journalist.
Anybody who read Asomugha's terrific MMQB article would agree that he could go pro in several career fields. Filling in for Peter King, the article included Rookie advice, quotes of the week, and his analysis on things not related to football.
2) Zach Miller
He hasn't grabbed many story lines recently, but we should expect him to be the team's best receiver in training ...
Albert Haynesworth recently requested that the Washington Redskins trade him immediately.
This comes months after the Redskins announced they would move to a 3-4 defensive alignment next season.
Albert prefers to play as a 4-3 defensive tackle instead of the 3-4 nose tackle.
Rumors have surfaced indicating the Raiders might be interested in Albert. Oakland has been pegged as one of the likely landing spots for the disgruntled tackle.
While I would like to see Haynesworth on the roster (especially since it would likely be for only a 4th round selection), I just don't see the Raider pursuing him.
Here's why.
The Raiders will play a hybrid defense
The Raiders will execute ...
The Oakland Raiders had a great offseason.
They addressed key issues on both sides of the ball. Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski will compete for the starting job at QB, though many fans and media believe the job is already Jason Campbell's. Rolando McClain will be inserted to anchor the defense. Lamarr Houston adds talent and versatility to an already talented defense.
But there is one issue that wasn't addressed very well, and I expect it to be a headache once again in 2010... the offensive line.
Jared Veldheer and Bruce Campbell were drafted in the middle rounds and are expected to ...
