The Oakland Raiders have a powerful motto: Commitment to Excellence . To make this concept operational, it may be necessary to remind the readers of at least three levels of excellence: organizational, team, and individual. Historically speaking, there have been eras in the history of the Oakland Raiders that demonstrated a high degree of fidelity between the motto and the performance in the AFC and overall in the NFL. No one will deny that the Oakland Raiders need to re-commit to excellence at all levels. Simply stated, there must be a return to organizational excellence, team excellence, and individual excellence. Is it asking ...
There are not too many times when surfing the world wide web you come across videos that will choke you up a bit, however this morning I viewed a story about a 10 year old boy from North Carolina who's dream was to meet the Oakland Raiders. That video can be seen here:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hs8wEu36NZE It's a very sad story with a happy ending, and while watching the video you couldn't help but to feel some emotions for the boy, for only being 10 years old and being so brave, I found this video to be great not only because it shows my ...
The growing popularity of IDP leagues rests heavily—among other reasons—on the fact that a good collection of defensive players can be just as fruitful as your dominate offensive roster. But with that, comes the never ending search for just who exactly will be a top weekly contributor. One of the players I would like to highlight for you is DB/S Tyvon Branch of the Oakland Raiders who is rapidly rising to fantasy dominance. In most circles, DB/S such as Nnamdi Asomugha, Champ Bailey, Brian Dawkins, Quentin Jammer, and Brandon Flowers are all the first names you’ll hear mentioned when talking about ...
Oakland Raiders and Fantasy Football have been about as oxymoronic as you can get for the last few years. However, times have changed. The Raiders are now set to break out some new Fantasy picks. Of those picks, I have ranked the Raiders top five . If you'd like to see it, turn the page.Begin Slideshow
After beginning the second half with a three-game sweep against the Kansas City Royals, the Oakland Athletics are ready to make a run at their first American League West title since 2006. The A’s are currently 46-46 and seven games back of the division-leading Rangers. This may seem like a lot of ground to make up, but Oakland has their schedule and their pitching on their side. Thirty-five of Oakland’s final 71 games are at home, with 42 of those games against teams .500 or better. This does make the schedule look hard for the Athletics because of the fact that the ...
Please check out my website, TheSportingRave.com . More celebrity/pop culture stories. The newest sports movie to hit the pre-production stage, titled Moneyball,  is a story that tracks the Oakland A’s baseball team and its unconventional general manager Billy Beane, played by none other than Brad Pitt. Beane is infamously known for using computer-generated analysis of statistics to draft players, which brought the A’s organization success both on and off the field. The script was rewritten by Steven Soderbergh in an attempt to include more authentic scenes. Darryl Strawberry and Lenny Dykstra will both be making appearances in the movie. The film also stars Jonah Hill, Robin Wright, ...
I have noticed a disturbing trend amongst Raider Nation. Raider fans have a tendency to project players based on their potential. What "might," "should," or "could" happen. This leads me to the question, could the Raiders' supposed best offensive weapon Zach Miller be overrated? I, for the record, would generally answer: hell no, are you crazy? But then when I realize that Zach Miller not only has not ever made the Pro Bowl, he's never won anything either, and has a mere seven touchdowns in three years. Ouch. Some would blame it on the abysmal QB situation in Oakland over his career. ...
Early in this fantasy season, there is one question out there fantasy owners are having a tough time making up their minds about: which Raider is the right one to grab as we approach draft time? Another aspect of this debate is if the Raider who ends up being the bell cow, who could push your team up and over the top.  The reason why most owners are debating this is because the starter will end up getting drafted later than where he should. This is just a bonus since an increase in their value just makes you look like you got a steal. ...
Early this morning, I read a comment from an opponent's team who used the word "desperate" to describe the Raider Nation. I offer a rebuttal. First, I wrote to him and said that his presence on the Oakland Raiders BR webpage is a sure measure of desperation. I, then, wrote in all caps: YOU ARE, INDEED, DESPERATE. I prefer to believe that some of us in the Raider Nation are "prisoners of hope and faith." I learned the phrase from Joel Osteen, a great, young minister. After looking up the meaning of "faith", it was discovered that faith is connected to fidelity. The meaning ...
Bear with me here.  I know that this may sound like the most ridiculous thought you've ever heard, but there is a slight chance that John Henderson could be cut after training camp. But there is a strong chance that he will be next to Tommy Kelly when the Raiders are at Nashville. Why A Camp Body?   Last year, the Raiders also acquired a veteran right between OTAs and  training camp.  His name was Lorenzo Neal.  He was expected to be an instant starter by many fans, but he was out of a job before the season opener.  There was ...
