Raider Nation has a new Secretary of Defense. He is Butkus Award winning middle linebacker Rolando McClain. The Raiders are coming off of a year where the defense ranked 29th against the run. The new Secretary Of Defense was appointed to fix that problem in Raider Nation. Does Raider Nation really have their man? That is the million dollar question. Raider Nation has their man if he is physical, smart, and instinctive. Speed helps but he must have the aforementioned traits along with the ability to shed blocks. Is he physical? Former Alabama teammates  speak loud and clear about McClain's physicality. Cornerback Javier Arenas said this about what it was like to be hit by McClain. "You black out for a second ...
Dear JaMarcus, I know you're really busy so I will keep it brief. Thank you.... Very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very much. Much Love, Ryan Leaf  Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
Bigger bust than Ryan Leaf, cut from the Raiders, skipping team meetings to go to Vegas and now arrested for possession of codeine. These are some of the career low-lights for former No. 1 overall pick and Oakland Raiders quarterback JaMarcus Russell.  JaMarcus Russell who was arrested on July 5th, 2010 in an undercover investigation for possession of a controlled substance (codeine) has seen more dark days than bright nights in a short lived NFL career.  The Oakland Raiders are a respectable franchise, once led by John Madden, they have struggled lately and most of that is due to their Black ...
JaMarcus Russell was going to have a tough time getting any team to buy into his potential before today. Now I'm having a very tough time believing that any team will sign him. Russell was arrested on July 5 for possession of codeine syrup, often referred to as "purple drank."  This addicting concoction is very popular down south, and many high profile people have been reported as drinking it—people such as Lil' Wayne and Johnny Jolly. Codeine is on a list of banned substances by the NFL, so this could result in a suspension.  That being said, it's not the biggest worry for ...
Attention! Get JaMarcus Russell some help now before his life becomes a complete tragedy. When Russell was with the Oakland Raiders, there was a type of lethargy and non-responsiveness about him. Should he have been looked at closely for deeper problems? I think so. Granted, the transition from celebrated No. 1 draft pick to a media blitz tagging him as one of the worst of the No. 1 busts in the history of the NFL is not easy to digest. The signs of needing help are evident. For those who are in the position to talk to the people close to him, please get this man ...
First, JaMarcus Russell lost his starting job, then he lost his job altogether, and now he's facing a drug charge for possession of codeine syrup. According to the Mobile Press-Register, Russell was arrested Monday at his home and posted bail around 4 p.m. For a guy who was the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2007, his future now looks about as bleak as can be. Following his release by the Raiders in May, no team has shown any real interest in his services, the Raiders are taking Russell to court to demand a large chunk of his bonus money back, and now ...
Just when you think Jamarcus Russell has hit rock bottom, this happens.  I mean, I thought things couldn't get any worse for the former No. 1 overall draft pick.  Reports are that Russell was picked up from his house in Mobile, Alabama following an undercover investigation.  The fact that there was an undercover investigation going on leads me to believe that this may not end up being a simple possession charge.  What if he ends up getting charged with possession for sales?  He just might end up doing some time depending on what comes out of this whole situation.  The drug in question is ...
A history of excellence is now being rewritten as a history of despair and doubt that the organization so "committed" to being great will ever return to the level the organization promises its followers. Seven years, seven seasons concluded with a losing record, and 10 first round draft picks during that span. But improvement has been far from the direction the Raiders have gone. A vampire heading the front office and everything else the Silver and Black do, paired with a coach that minimizes the potential that the once feared Raiders have. Good reasons not to be enthusiastic about the future. The peak years of ...
The Oakland Raiders had the seventh—ranked pass defense last season. Though they are skilled for sure, much of this can be attributed to teams running down their throats. In the recent weeks there has been talk (from me as well) of Michael Huff moving to cornerback. When the analysis is all done, I favor it for one reason. I want Mike Mitchell on the damn field. Mitchell was selected in the second round last offseason, a shock to many, even though his stock was soaring on draft weekend. In OTAs, he looked lost in coverage, and then training camp arrived only to find him still lost ...
Welcome to the Oakland Raiders, and welcome to the Raider Nation, Kyle Boller. On this holiday, the news media is recognizing Boller's recent marriage, and that alone is bringing positive attention to the Oakland Raiders since he is a part of the team of quarterbacks. Boller is among the quarterbacks for 2010 which include Jason Campbell, and Bruce Gradowski. His jersey number is seven, and that number means something to some people. The research says that seven symbolizes "completion and perfection." Let's just say that Boller's addition to the Oakland Raiders completes the cadre of quarterbacks. It is a sign of hope that even if one ...
