For a team that is coming off of a 5-11 season, the amount of position battles are very few. Raiders beat writer Jerry McDonald has written about the competition at the full back position, but there's another trio of players vying for playing time at receiver. Johnnie Lee Higgins, Jacoby Ford, and Nick Miller are all of similar stature. All are under 6'0" and weigh around 180 pounds. They are all fighting for playing time at the slot receiver position, and to be the main return man on punts and kicks. It's possible that all of them will be on the roster this ...
In the hood, let's just say Harlem, when a brother puts his finger in another brother's face, that means he is tough enough to stand behind his words. And if he puts his finger on your nose, then you know the fight is on. A Bronco fan got out of his fence and posted on the Oakland Raiders B/R comment strand. The research for today was almost finished until he put his finger on our nose, and stirred up some trouble. Look at this and tell me if a Bronco fan can be overly confident in 2010. I don't think so. Now let's do ...
When Billy Beane made no moves at the All-Star break to improve the Oakland A's lineup, it was only a matter of time before the overachieving A's squad started to crumble, and now that time has come.  Over the last 10 games the A's have gone 4-6 and went from second place in the American League West division, to third place, with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim now one and a half games ahead of the A's.  In that span, the A's offense has averaged 2.5 runs per game. Looking further at just how miserable the offense has been, the A's ...
With about 91.6 percent of the game over, and a big, fat zero on the scoreboard for  Oakland, the adrenalin must have been flowing for the Raiders. That's why, in traditional Oakland Raiders style, the team made those final few minutes count. Sitting through three quarters with no touchdowns or field goals for the Oakland Raiders probably made most of the 72,282 fans present at the game feel good. The game was in Texas.  But, the Oakland Raiders mustered up the wits and energy to get scores in the fourth quarter. Those are the cliffhanger moments that many remember from the old days. ...
Analogous to several NFL divisions, the AFC West is fabricated with fierce legendary rivalries.  But divergent, the enmity has seemed to have lost some of its strife with the Chargers displaying superlative dominance in recent years. However, despite many expert analysts in the media ignoring the obvious due to overwhelming bias, many who follow the league closely have gradually taken notice that the tables have inevitably and finally turned in the AFC West. This list breaks down why the Chargers’ power is no longer cogitated as “super” and most importantly, 10 reasons why the division is entirely an open competition. Begin Slideshow
Football is finally back! This off-season has brought more positive press for the Oakland Raiders than at any time I can remember. Most of it, if not all of it, is well deserved. The Raiders have made up a lot of ground on the rest of the league. The Raiders kicked off their preseason schedule at the "Jones Mahal" against the Cowboys. They won the game and learned a lot about themselves. There were moments of greatness, and moments of great concern for Raider Nation.Overall, the Raiders proved that they are a pretty deep team. The second and third string out-played the ...
Review for Retention and Revitalization of the Oakland Raiders Al Davis made a presentation at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio in 2006. The win-loss record for the Oakland Raiders in that same year was four wins and 12 losses. How do you think Davis feels now, having been given one of the highest honors in professional football (he was enshrined in 1992), yet his team had the worst win-loss record in a seven-year period? We look back, using hindsight. Here is the data to remind you "how stuck on low achievement" this may have seemed to a lot of people: Year     Wins     Losses 2009     ...
From an average fan's perspective, the Oakland Raiders victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday night was hardly anything good. Your average fan would say, "They looked good on defense but didn't do anything on offense until late in the game." However, those with a little more insight to Raider football saw a little more than that. How much can you see in a preseason game where the starters barely played? That depends on what it is you are looking for. I saw the blue print to a return to Raider football. What? They didn't look like world beaters out there on Thursday night. Being a world beater ...
JaMarcus Russell is the biggest bust in NFL history. Not exactly a bold statement by any means, but it comes with a certain sadness to declare that. Many fans in East Bay hate the man whom Mel Kiper promised would become a top five NFL quarterback on draft day. I don't hate him. But I think he will eventually hate himself.  This article isn't designed to be an in-depth biography of his tenure in Oakland. But I will touch on some of the main points. Russell didn't have it easy. Oakland was coming off one of the worst seasons in franchise history. There was a ...
Let the injuries decline As we look back on the 2009 season for the Oakland Raiders, we see that there were double digit frequencies of injuries. But it seems there were a declining number of injuries of the Oakland Raiders as the season progressed to week 17. That's a bit of good news. The weeks of the 2009 season when our players had a tough time were weeks four through eight and 16. During those weeks, we had injuries that were double digits. Here is the table: Week        Number of Injuries 1 7 2 6 3 8 4 10 5 10 6 10 7 12 8 12 10 9 11 6 13 6 14 6 15 9 16 10 17 8 The graph of the data may give you more insight into what happened in ...
