We all know what happened during Lebron’s one hour special called “The Decision”, yet what is it that got him to go to Miami?  It was the other superstar he once played with during the Olympics telling him that they just needed a couple more pieces and they all could get some Championship rings.  Dwyane Wade was behind the scenes making phone calls and trying to create a championship team overnight.                 So what does this have to do with football?  Richard Seymour could become this type of guy for the Raiders in the next offseason.  A bevy of Patriots players ...
From training camp to their first preseason game, Oakland has had a busy week preparing for the season. Early on, injuries limited a variety of players, some of which carried over to the preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys. Darren McFadden, Jacoby Ford, and several others were unable to participate in the Thursday night affair. As it seems, Oakland's game was a nice change of pace for the fans, especially if you have been waiting months for the game, the Raiders had both good points and bad. For the good points, Oakland's defense, from the first team with Rolando McClain to Lamarr Houston ...
While I was trying to locate a former Oakland Raider for an interview, another senior football player walked several feet near me. A man whom I was talking to and receiving directions from said, "Watch out, lady, because he is mean and he may hurt you. Don't get close to him." I looked over at the man who was talking to me, and asked, "Who is he?" He answered me but I prefer to keep his name private. I will tell you that the man was a great football player who got injured early in his career. His father was a coach and ...
A fourth round draft choice was given up for the up-and-down center Samson Satele in a trade over a year ago, which was supposed to bring a quality center to Oakland from Miami. It didn't. Samson Satele is undersized. Although he is quick, and can get to the second level, he and his wing-man Cooper Carlisle (starting right guard) don't have a few traits that are truly needed as an interior linemen: toughness, strength, and consistency. Satele's poor pre-season showing against Dallas (where he let defenders blow right past him it seemed) is not the only time he has looked bad. And ...
The Oakland Raiders and the Raider Nation are a learning community. We study. We work. We play hard. We strategize. We think. We learn from each other. I learned from outstanding writers like Leroy Watson, Raider Card Addict, David Wilson, Brent, Bret, and others. That's what it's all about. Learning is what makes the difference. As I learn, I impart my knowledge and inspiration to others. One example is that a young artist, with a B/R name VeeCee, has started a piece of artwork that just may be a masterpiece. The articles we post on B/R are intended for the Oakland Raiders and ...
In the classic 'A Bronx Tale,' Lorenzo (played brilliantly by Robert DeNiro) tells his son Calogero "the saddest thing in life is wasted talent." Those of us who witnessed the JaMarcus Russell years in Oakland would have to agree. Russell's recent arrest and admission of abusing codeine is just the latest chapter in a story that has gotten progressively sadder as each season has passed.  Certainly, Russell had athletic ability. Incredible athletic ability. His arm was among the strongest ever seen. "Raw talent" was a phrase often used to describe him after he was drafted No. 1 overall out of Louisiana State in 2007. Russell ...
The Oakland A's came off a home series against the Texas Rangers where the A's couldn't buy a hit with runners in scoring position. As a team the A's went for 0-30, but somehow were sable to take two games from the Rangers.  With the A's taking two games it seemed like it was going to be a turning point in the season, a step in the right direction so to speak. Winning two games from the Rangers meant there was still a chance at the American League West title and with the A's next series against the Seattle Mariners in ...
For the Oakland A's the team has a ton of talented starting pitchers and one of those pitchers is Gio Gonzalez. The word to describe his season so far has been inconsistent at one point he looked like the ace for the A's and other times he's struggled mightily.  Looking at his numbers before tonights game he's got a record of 10-7, with a 3.51 ERA, has started 23 games, has one complete game, and has struck out 114 while walking 62 hitters.  One of his biggest problems has been walking batters. What's really been noticeable though is the walks tend to ...
Many NFL fans are conditioned to believe whatever comes from various media outlets. They'll have you to believe that certain players shouldn't play because of inane reasons such as their draft position, background, or experience. Why? Over the course of the past two preseasons, one could argue that the best WR on the Oakland Raiders has been young Nick Miller. The guy is super fast, runs great routes, and catches everything. Last I checked, great route running and hands were severely missing from the Raiders receiving corp. But Nick Miller can't start, he wasn't drafted, he's too small. He won't ...
When Tom Cable arrived in Oakland three seasons ago, he was touted as an O-line Guru and was expected to bring some sort of stability and consistency to this unit. Ironically, the offensive line has been the least consistent unit on the Raiders team since his assumption of the head coaching position halfway through 2008. Quarterback after Quarterback have been trolloped behind Cable's ZBS scheme which covers areas as opposed to man-to-man, in your face football of traditional Raider lore. The running game has suffered tremendously under this scheme and consequently so has the passing game. According to neo-Raider standards, three ...
