The Oakland A's played the biggest game of the season tonight against the Seattle Mariners. Now, some would say it's way too soon to talk about big game especially since it's only August 9, but with a young team like the A's, any time the team has a chance to make ground on the division-leading Texas Rangers, it's a big game.  What were A's fans treated to tonight? An absolute disgraceful performance offensively. Pitching-wise, Vin Mazzaro pitched extremely well after a shaky first inning. He ended the night going seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, while striking out five ...
"All warfare is based on deception," Sun Tzu wrote in his classic military manifesto, "The Art Of War." And few people know that better than NFL coaches. If teams won games based on predictions or by having the more skilled players, there would be no reason to play the game. Alas, I remember watching the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl against the Giants of New York. The Patriots were heavy favorites, however, I saw an advantage that lay in favor of the Giants. Most football junkies I discussed my assertion with discarded it as mere foolery. Nevertheless, my theory was simple, attack their ...
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. The insanity that Raider Nation has lived in appears to be over now. President and dictator of Raider Nation Al Davis is now leading the nation in a different direction. A host of switch-outs have been made throughout the team. I believe that these switch-outs to have really changed the face of Raider Nation for the better. Happy days are coming to Raider Nation! Turn the page to see what those switch-outs are. Begin Slideshow
It was Monday night at Fed-Ex Field in 2009, the Redskins versus the Eagles, and fans waved anti-Snyder signs. The banners read “Fire Cerrato!” and “End Snyder’s Napoleon Rule,” led by repeated chants of “Sell the team!” which rang throughout Fed-Ex Field. All the while, irate fans tossed boxes of popcorn, hot dogs, and sodas at Dan Snyder’s corporate box. A day later, Snyder banned all anti-Snyder signs from Fed-Ex Field—freedom of expression? Not in Danny’s house.   Months before, Snyder courted Jay Cutler in an attempt to woo him to Washington. Then Snyder laminated Mark Sanchez with food and wine—and later, ...
If the autumn is to be a pirate, then the Oakland Raiders will need to win early and win often. With a prevailing losing culture enveloping Oakland these past eight years, the last thing Tom Cable needs to be dealing with are early season losses. The first four games, therefore, are the key to the success or failure of the Raiders' season. These games will set the tone and marker for what unfolds.Begin Slideshow
When Jerry Rice was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Saturday, it gave San Francisco 49ers fans and Oakland Raiders fans an opportunity to reflect upon the glory days of bay area Football. Rice played for and is remembered fondly by both bay area teams. The NFL’s all-time leading receiver won the Super Bowls with San Francisco and helped win two division titles and a conference championship in Oakland. Rice’s enshrinement gave San Francisco and Oakland fans an opportunity to forget about the gloomy state of bay area football and remember the glorious past. Neither the Oakland Raiders nor the San ...
The Oakland Raiders receivers are a very young and talented group of players with plenty of potential. It's safe to say that they dropped the ball last year when it came to production. Jason Campbell is now under-center and Raider Nation is once again filled with hope. There are many critics out there who still believe the Raiders are far away. Perhaps one of the biggest questions everyone outside of the Raider Nation has is, "Who will Jason Campbell throw to besides Zach Miller?" That's a great question and I would gladly answer it. Darrius Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy, and Chaz Schilens are all ...
When I heard about former Raiders receiving coach James' Lofton's comments last night, I was disgusted. Lofton said about current Bengal Gibril Wilson, who was flagged for a personal foul penalty during the Hall of Fame Game) "He was a Raider, you know". The same thing when I read a report with an anonymous GM lambasting Al Davis for signing cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha to a market setting deal, and blaming him for the Darrelle Revis contract dispute. These are two more reasons why the national media hates the Raiders. First of all, hasn't Wilson played for four teams in four years? And I ...
After Daric Barton left Sunday’s game with back spasms, reports began to surface that the Oakland A’s would call up their top power prospect, Chris Carter, to join the team in Seattle. Carter was acquired by the Athletics in the trade which sent Dan Haren to the Arizona Diamondbacks. He is currently hitting .262, but has 27 home runs and 89 RBI in Triple-A Sacramento. Oakland, which has hit the second-fewest home runs in baseball and also has the second-worst slugging percentage in the American League, is in desperate need of a power hitter. The promotion of Carter could provide the Athletics’ offense ...
Slugger supreme Chris Carter is expected to join the Athletics in Seattle for their upcoming road trip. The 6'5", 230-pound Carter is the top position prospect in the A's system and one of most fearsome power sticks in the minor leagues. Carter has connected on 119 long balls since 2007, including 27 in 2010. A first baseman by trade, he's been camped out in left field for the Sacramento River Cats since July 28 in what is likely a portent of what's to come. Carter, 23, is tearing the cover off the ball right now, making this a most ideal time ...
