1. Does Jason Campbell bring stability the the quarterback position? Yes, this was needed for both sides. Campbell had no chance in Washington, with that team in such a mess at the time. He had a lame duck head coach, Jim Zorn, and was beaten to a pulp thanks to the offensive line. JaMarcus Russell maybe in the biggest bust in NFL history, enough said. 2. Will Darren McFadden and Darius Heyward-Bey reach there potential this season? Heyward-Bey can't catch the ball so he will not reach the number seven pick status. McFadden may not be as good as Michael Bush, but will ...
Rolando McClain, if you don't know his name, you will soon know his game. McClain will ignite his NFL career as the starting middle linebacker for the Oakland Raiders taking over for the departed Kirk Morrison. At every level, the 6-foot-3, 255-pound linebacker, has been the best at his position. A Parade All-American in high school, McClain stepped in as a freshman at Alabama and by the end of his junior year, he had won the Butkus Award for the Nation's best linebacker, had brought the Crimson Tide a National Championship, and was on his way to the next level.  Behind a revamped Raiders defensive-line ...
This article is not like my previous article much earlier in the offseason. I must say as a fan of the Oakland Raiders I am feeling much more optimistic than I was just two months ago. BUT, I still do not fail to realize what is truly going on. I stand by my statements before that, yes, the Raiders will probably only win 8-9 games. At the same time, i do admit that I was a little too critical on their chances on winning 10+. Now that that's over, let's move on to analyzing key aspects of the team. Lets start with my favorite, the secondary. Some ...
This is a reality check. As we study our opponents, one by one, we must be honest about the needs of the Oakland Raiders. As a teacher, sometimes I have to return test grades that are not good. Those assessments need to be done early during the semester. The educational jargon is "You must raise their level of concern." This study is done early during preseason to alert the Oakland Raiders. The chart in the article photo shows that the Oakand Raiders must raise their level of concern and they must not waver or be unstable in their preparation. They must have a constant and steady ...
Every year, all the teams start square.  All 32 teams in first place; and have unlimited potential to make it all the way to the Super Bowl.  Each team has the potential to become great, or fall by the wayside and hope they can find a good high draft pick the next year.  This season, the AFC West is no exception.  The Broncos and Chargers have been dominating it for the past few years, but a new team could be heading for the top of the division: the Oakland Raiders. Oakland has not always been a bad team.  They made the ...
Pep Talk Yes, I said it, "Play mean." As we think about guys like George Atkinson, Mean Joe Greene, Ernie Holmes and other football legends, we realize that they played "mean" and won games. Of course, what they did had to comply with NFL rules. Now if a college team in North Texas can continue to promote the motto "mean green" then certainly they must want to produce more tough professional football players like "Mean Joe Greene" as an example. We have our list of mean players of the Oakland Raiders of the past. Even some of our wide receivers were tagged as men to be ...
Former New York Giant receiver Plaxico Burress has applied for a work release from prison. If granted a release, it is expected that his suspension would be lifted and the 33-year-old receiver would be eligible to return to the National Football League. Work release rules state that an inmate can work Monday through Friday and return to prison on the weekends. The inmate is also not allowed to travel outside the state. Burress would need to get a waiver to be able to play in the NFL and although waivers are rare, they are not impossible. Burress is a 6’5" receiver who ...
Billy Beane is notorious for deadline deals. He has a quick trigger finger and seems to always be shuffling players in and out of the Oakland clubhouse. However, the 2010 trade deadline was different, as Beane and the Athletics just sat back and watched from a distance.   Some A’s fans are disappointed by the quiet deadline because they feel that if the A’s added a power bat they would be able to contend for the division crown. However, this is an unlikely scenario, and even if the A’s did catch the Rangers, it is hard to imagine this Oakland team making ...
Whatever I ask of the Oakland Raiders in terms of their commitment to excellence, I must also ask of myself and others who will be writing about their experiences in 2010. I charted the strong and weak connections I have to NFL players. I am also lining up my resources to study and discuss the issues and activities of 2010. Sports Radio 610 will be one of my sources. ESPN is another. Quick updates from Jerrymcd using tweets is another way to stay on top of the situation. In my social map shown above, I see that there are strong and weak connections ...
I have read and written article after article about the new look of the Silver and Black, the positive directions the Raider have taken such as the NFL draft, the addition of Hue Jackson, the retaining of coach Tom Cable and the improvements to the defense and offensive line this season. However if you look closely you will notice that many writers will say...provided Chaz Schilens stays healthy, or if Darren McFadden stays healthy. The Oakland Raiders have looked much improved recently. In fact, since the release of JaMarcus Russell and the addition of Jason Campbell, this team looks spectacular. But in all ...
