Data is everywhere and it helps us think. A comparison of the Dallas Cowboys and the Oakland Raiders gives more insight on the possibilities during the first practice game of 2010. A tweet from one sportswriter let this B/R senior writer know that the Oakland Raiders are going to have to "hang tough" because one of the players has a concussion. His tweet said, "No Chaz (on field, not practicing) or Murphy. Guessing the days of quick return in NFL from concussions are over. Practice in pads." Well, the reference of practice in pads was encouraging news because it is believed that "a full-padded practice ...
As training camp opened in Napa, CA for the Oakland Raiders this week, there are several uncertainties that when answered will prove to be the key to the 2010 season. Will the Raiders continue to wallow in mediocrity as they have for the last seven seasons? Or will they return to contention and recapture the swagger that the Silver and Black were previously known for? Only time will tell, but these five areas will be the keys to the franchise's direction this season.   Will newly acquired QB Jason Campbell provide needed leadership and spark? Early reports out of Raiders camp indicate ...
Reports of Brett Favre retiring are taking over the news and internet. There are many questions to ask if this is true. Is Favre serious? Are the Vikings' title hopes over? How old is Favre really? What will he do after he retires? I don't have the answers to every question, but I have compiled a list of ten things Favre can do if he truly does retire. Begin Slideshow
Now that Oakland Raiders training camp is in full swing, the focus is rightfully on one player who must have a breakout season in 2010 or risk being tagged with the dreaded "BUST" label. RB Darren McFadden was picked fourth overall in the 2008 NFL Draft. He had a standout career at Arkansas in which he rushed for 41 TD in three seasons for the Razorbacks. After signing a six-year, $60.1 million contract with the Raiders, expectations were understandably high. In his rookie season McFadden was generally a disappointment, although a nagging toe injury limited him to 13 games and hampered him ...
Now that training camp has been going on for the last week the speculation has been replaced by reality. There was a lot of speculation about which jobs would be up for grabs for the Oakland Raiders. Now that we have seen several practices, let's look at the top five competitions to watch from here until the season opener. 5. Kamerion Wimbley vs. Thomas Howard Wimbley was acquired in a trade with the Cleveland Browns for a mid-round draft pick. He had a stellar rookie season but never reached his sacks totals again. Howard has been Oakland's best pass coverage linebacker after ...
Can’t get enough of the NFL, even during the summer? No big deal, just turn on VH1 for a couple episodes of Ochocinco: The Ultimate Catch or The T.O. Show. Or if that fails, click over to E! to check out Kendra Wilkinson’s 30-minute brain-drainer, where you might catch a glimpse of husband Hank Baskett. And, of course, if you want more than wide receivers looking for love, you’ll have HBO’s Hard Knocks starring the New York Jets soon. For those who feel left out of the NFL reality show craze, there is hope. Summer is the season where literally anything will get ...
Many people would have read this headline in the past and immediately sent Bleacher Report a letter about heresy on their website. But in the 2010 NFL season, there’s a different smell in the Bay Area. And no, it’s not due to BP. The Oakland Raiders opened training camp to a feeling of confidence for the first time in quite some time. Under head coach and fat Bruce Willis impersonator Tom Cable, the Black Hole may finally have something to love. Other than the gorgeous dance team. In the past eight years, the Raiders have not won more than five games in any season, making ...
Here's what we know: Jason Campbell Is the Starting QB The staff was probably looking for an excuse to name him the starter as quickly as possible. Gradkowski's injury took care of that problem. No 3-4 Base Defense Will Be Implemented Tom Cable was pretty clear when he said that he doesn't want to complicate the players and incorporate a lot of 3-4 formations. He plans on moving guys around out of the 4-3, but will not scheme around a 3-4. There Is No Clear No. 1 Running Back McFadden coughs up the ...
Robert Gallery, entering his seventh NFL season, happens to be the second biggest Raiders bust in the last decade. He was a bust—as a left tackle. When he made the move to left guard three seasons ago, he thrived. Is it any coincidence that the Raiders finished in the Top 10 in rushing in both the 2007 and 2008 seasons, but failed to even finish in the Top 20 when Gallery missed ten games? I decided to look even further in the statistics.  In the six games Gallery played in, the rushing totals went like this: Week One: 148 (vs. San Diego) Week Two: 64 (@ Kansas ...
Oakland Raiders Head Coach Tom Cable has been stripped of his play calling duties. He now has enough time to be involved in the development of his offensive line. The Raiders defense is set to probably crack the top 10 this year. Jason Campbell is a legitimate quarterback brought in to replace Jamarcus Russell. The Raiders have all kinds of talent at every other offensive skill position as well. So the offensive line is the one unit that could hold the Raiders back from major contention this year. Therefore, Cable has his work more than cut out for him. His job may ...
