Start Strong It was good to see the Oakland Raiders make the first touchdown in the first quarter of the Aug. 28 game. They started strong. It's unfortunate that Jason Campbell got an injury. It was good, however, to see Bruce Gradkowski get a chance to show his skills. The touchdown for 74-yards to Louis Murphy was impressive. A little data gives you a chance to review some of what happened in a good preseason game.     The game was full of action and if we could choose a color to describe the action, "red" would be a good choice.  Then, the fade out occurred.   Stay Strong During the fourth quarter, the ...
If an injury was to ever put a damper on a hometown crowd, Oakland's injury to Jason Campbell was a bit one. In the second quarter, Oakland's offensive line let through a linemen, causing another sack for Campbell, but this one caused Jason to be on the ground for five minutes. As it was, the report from the locker room was a stinger, not nearly as scary as the hit that took Rich Gannon from us...but equally disturbing. Here was the player that was meant to lead the team out of the doldrums...out of the game, about a quarter early. As it was, his ...
Oakland came out firing on the first drive of tonight's preseason game against the 49ers. Jason Campbell was able to connect with Marcel Reese on a 49-yard strike down the sideline. Darrius Heyward-Bey was thrown at four times, and made three beautiful catches. As the game progressed, the Raider offensive line confirmed the validity of the wide-spread belief that the unit could be the Achilles heel of the team for the highly anticipated upcoming season. Mario Henderson looked overmatched most of the night and ultimately was beaten so badly that it allowed starting quarterback Jason Campbell to sustain a neck ...
Tom Cable has much to think about these days. The Raiders broke camp last week and are heading into the preseason finale on Thursday. This means that the time has coming to trim his roster down to 53 men. A little over a month ago, I made a prediction of who would make the roster. I have now had the chance to see the team play a few games and things have naturally changed. Turn the page to see my new predictions.Begin Slideshow
Sometimes the precepts which catapult you to victories are staring you in the face. Have you ever thought about the possible meaning of the Oakland Raiders logo? It contains two swords, a helmet, a head, and a face, all contained in a shield. There may be even more symbols to transmit meaning.  This is an exciting day during the 2010 preseason. The Oakland Raiders already have  the symbols representing, no doubt, the concepts and precepts for victory. For example, after doing some research on the Hebrew language, I learned there are things that can be connected to the logo of the Oakland Raiders. It can also ...
As the opening of the 2010 football season approaches, it appears as if the Oakland Raiders are on the fast track to accomplish something that they haven't done since 2002, have a winning season. In the offseason, the Raiders have made many vital moves that have changed the entire atmosphere in Oakland, where the Commitment to Excellence has appeared to have returned to the home of Silver and Black. The one opponent that seems to have plagued the Oakland Raiders is not a team or a referee. It is clearly injuries. You can watch tape to prepare for a team, but this opponent ...
"All warfare is based on deception," Sun Tzu wrote in his classic military manifesto, "The Art Of War." And few people know that better than NFL coaches. If teams won games based on predictions or by having the more skilled players, there would be no reason to play the game. Alas, my theory for the Raiders dethroning the Chargers is simple, attack their strength—their QB. It is not a coincidence that the Raiders, after two preseason games, lead the league in sacks. Make Phillip Rivers think of LaMarr Houston, or Matt Shaughnessy, or Kamerion Wimbley every time he drops back.   Strategic Point #1: "If he is ...
The Oakland Raiders are 2-0 in the preseason and seem to have all the earmarks of a team on the rise. As unlikely as it sounds, the Raiders could be a dark horse winner of the AFC West and return to the playoffs after a seven-year absence. At the very least, Oakland’s defense seems to have come together—recording a preseason-high 12 sacks through two games. In turn, this has created quite a buzz around the NFL, no doubt giving Raiders’ fans a reason to feel confident about their team’s chances in 2010.Sports Illustrated’s Don Banks wrote about his winners and losers  halfway through ...
The Oakland Raiders are showing a lot of promise in the weeks leading up to the season opener on September 12th. They've made the necessary moves to be a contender in the NFL. However, there are still some holes on this Raider team, and I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Al Davis makes a huge trade in the upcoming days. Mr. Davis is known for making some big trades recently. In 2008, he made a trade for DeAngelo Hall and just last year he snatched up Richard Seymour from New England. Surely the Raiders are to get a big-name player in the ...
The third preseason game is typically considered to be the main "dress rehearsal" for every teams starting line up. A game plan is set and the starters typically play the whole first half and possibly more. The Raiders might have a slightly different mentality going into this particular preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. In addition to the game this Saturday, the Raiders also play the 49ers in week six of the regular season. The Raiders and 49ers may hold back on how much they expose of their playbook, but there are still issues that can gain more clarity on Saturday. Here ...
