1. Replace Russell The Trade for Jason Campbell has already paid huge dividends. And Campbell is ready to prove that he is a top tier quarterback.   2. Rebuilding the run defense Defensive coordinator John Marshall, defensive line coach Mike Waufle, linebackers coach Mike Haluchak and secondary coach Lionel Washington knew they had to make significant changes in the off-season. The additions of John Henderson and rookie Roland McClain was a massive upgrade. Besides a 89-yard touchdown run by Chicago's Matt Forte, the run defense has looked great in the first two preseaon games.   3. Figuring out the running backs rotation Two words: Michael Bush. One number: 4.8 yards per ...
The special teams unit going to have some new and old parts this year. While the kickers were outstanding, the Raiders were around the bottom of the league in return yards in 2009. On top of that, special teams standout Isiah Ekejuba was released and needs replacing. It will be interesting to see who will replace him and who will bring back the return game. One thing is for certain. There is plenty of speed and physicality to go around in Raider Nation. Some of these guys are already solid back-ups that will make the team while others are depending on ...
After viewing the Hue Jackson interview today, it made sense to revisit an earlier article. Jackson has an "in your face" attitude, and it's speading among the Oakland Raiders. They need to shore up for their battle with the San Francisco 49ers. It's going to be an interesting and powerful encounter. Here is a pep talk to get you ready for a "take no prisoners" attitude and also leave a "mark" of victory on the opponent. The Article If you like interesting movies, then you might have watched Inglorious Basterds, with Brad Pitt playing a character named Lieutenant Aldo Raine, the leader of the ...
Criteria Of Sleeper Picks 1. Can not be predicted by most NFL writers to make the playoffs- meaning they must be a surprise. 2. They did not make the playoffs last year 3. They have not won a Superbowl in the last 5 yearsBegin Slideshow
The media conducted a recent interview with Hue Jackson, the offensive coordinator with the Oakland Raiders. Articulate and confident were two words to describe his presentation. One thing stuck out in the interview. Jackson does not care to compare this year's Oakland Raiders with the players of last year. He emphasizes that there is an almost completely new set of players on the Oakland Raiders team. He stressed, "What we do from this point on" is what counts. Continuing to look from left to right, and obviously looking the media representatives in their eyes, he described both he and Tom Cable as coaches with a ...
After nearly a month of drills and practices, the Oakland Raiders ended training camp today. Their mission was to get better every day, but the greatest part of progression is a change in attitude. Tom Cable and Hue Jackson are a big part of the change in attitude along with Jason Campbell and the plethora of added talent. "I think the different thing between this year and the years before, from talking to the guys that have been here, is the attitude, the mindset," Campbell stated. "Guys expect to go out and win, instead of just hoping or one thing happens and ...
The Oakland Raiders have a storied history of success, but for the past few years success has been hard to come by for the Silver and Black. The tough persona, the “in your face” play, the win by any means attitude had gone adrift. Last season, I watched the Raiders play the Washington Redskins when a bystander described the Raiders as soft and weak. Though I was offended, I pondered the remark, asking myself, “Is that what the Raiders perception has become in the minds of opposing fans? Had the Raiders eclipsed their dark demeanor and fallen into the abyss of ...
Training camp has finally wound down, and with only two preseason games left before the start of the regular season, the Raiders look to be headed in the right direction for the first time in years. Center Samson Satele injured his ankle against Chicago and quite frankly, has looked awful through two preseason games. Satele, who was traded to Oakland by Miami, was deemed expendable due to his inability to handle the bigger nose guards and tackles in the AFC East. The theory was that he would be a perfect fit for Oakland's zone blocking scheme, but that notion has been ...
When it comes to fantasy football, the term sleeper has become so cliché and overused that it sort of defeats the purpose to call any player a true sleeper anymore. Once upon a time a sleeper in fantasy football was an unknown quantity that had the potential to become a household name. In other words, a player who was likely to go undrafted in most leagues, but who could carry a team to the fantasy promised land off waivers for a watchful owner who stayed on top of the news. Sidney Rice was a great example last year. Everyone was focused on ...
Over the past 10 games, the Oakland A’s are 7-3 and have scored five or more runs five times. They are averaging four runs per game and have Athletics’ fans wondering where the offense has been all year. The offensive outburst could be related to the fact that the A’s have had games against Toronto and Cleveland, but nevertheless the offense is a welcome sight for Oakland fans. The A’s currently sit 8.5 games back and while this is probably too big of a hole to climb out of, they do have three games against the Rangers over the weekend. ...
