Alert and Call to Action
It takes a lot of time to look at permutations and new arrangements of the Oakland Raiders database. New issues are discovered as new arrangements are studied.
Look at this data and tell us what you see.
It seems that the Oakland Raiders have won only about 30 percent of the very first games of the regular season, from 1990 to 2009. That is two decades.
This is an alert because the pattern of behavior and level of performance are not acceptable, especially since the expectation of excellent performance for 2010 is far above that of previous years.
Here is the data:

There's a new sheriff in town for the Oakland Raiders in the form of former Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell.Based on the (lack of) effort put in by JaMarcus Russell at the QB position the last three years, it is suffice to say this is a very welcome changing of the guard in Oakland. No matter what he did in Washington, Campbell could never catch a break and was shipped out the door the instant the franchise could get something in return. That they took a mere fourth-round pick in the 2012 NFL draft for a long-term ...
When the Oakland Raiders travel to Tennessee to open the 2010 season this weekend, much of the talk will undoubtedly surround Tennessee Titans running back Chris Johnson. Last season, Johnson became only the sixth player in NFL history to put up over 2,000 rushing yards and set a new record for all purpose yards with over 2,500. With stats like these, it is understandable why the media will focus on Johnson as the 2010 NFL season begins.
However, in spite of the fact that Chris Johnson will be the best player on the field Sunday, he will not be the player ...
Darren McFadden goes into Sunday's game at Tennessee as the Raiders' starting running back. Going into his third year in Oakland, it will be the first real opportunity for McFadden to be the team's featured back.He had a career day against the Chiefs in the second game of his rookie season and has shown only flashes of brilliance since. With Fargas no longer a Raider and Michael Bush presumably not playing much, McFadden has the opportunity to do what he was drafted to do.Ironically, this game comes against Chris Johnson, who was drafted at the end of the first round the same year McFadden went fourth overall. You ...
I love the NFL. I have been following the league for well over 20 years, with my first Super Bowl memory being the Bears destroying the Patriots when I was just 5 years old. I don't know what it was that drew me to it, but I absolutely loved it.
These days it feels more like an obsession. My TV is on NFL Network all the time all year long. I watch everything from the draft combine to the draft itself, then all the talk in the off-season and even most of the preseason games (at least the first half). ...
The 2010 NFL season is finally here and the Oakland Raiders take on the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.This is, without a doubt my favorite time of year. Teams have made their roster cuts, players have studied the playbooks, and the preseason is behind us.Now, it's for real.Every week during the 2010 NFL season, I'll be releasing a slide show about what I think are the keys to the Oakland Raiders being successful against each opponent. These game plans will be released on Wednesdays or Thursdays.I'll use my coaching experience to break down the opponent's roster and study their game ...
Can you feel that Raider Nation? It's the feeling of optimism, hope, reluctance, and patience finally all coming together and about to be truly felt throughout the fanbase.
With only a few days left to wait, our Oakland Raiders about to be put to their first true test, both in the eyes of us fans, the media, and other NFL teams, by facing off against those heavy-running Tennessee Titans.
In hopes of changing the pace between doing a preview article, or even the millionth AFC West preview, I'm going to take the time real quick to just throw out my review on the ...
With all of the upgrades made to the Oakland Raiders roster over the 2010 off-season, there are high expectations for them this season. For many, the release of TJ Houshmandzadeh over the weekend was the opportunity for the Raiders to ensure that those expectations will be met.
As reports surfaced that Houshmandzadeh would be deciding between the Oakland Raiders and the Washington Redskins, it seemed like those fans might have their dreams come true. However, these hopes were shattered when Houshmandzadeh shocked the NFL by signing with the Baltimore Ravens.
Despite the Raiders' inability to land TJ Houshmandzadeh, there are still players ...
After a visit to the Oakland Raiders website, I noticed a posting of "Connections." I read the post carefully.
I thought that it is curious to post these connections. The only reason they may be important is to remind the coaches and players to be conquerors and to have conquest over their opponents even if those opponents are former contacts or colleagues.
Reflecting back on a game in 1970, I remember that Winston Hill, W. K. Hicks, and Warren Wells were friends in college. They played for Texas Southern University and they often socialized together during offseason.
They encountered each other on the professional football ...
What a year it has been. Last year, about this time Oakland was preparing for a season with its hopes hinged on Jamarcus Russell, a late addition of Richard Seymour, and Darrius Heyward-Bey. As it was, Russell was busy with a drink, or drank, Richard started strong but couldn't lift the defense, and Darrius was suffering, both of his own curse but also with Russell's poor passing ability. A year later, changes came across the board, from the quarterback change, a new coach in Hue Jackson and a solid draft, Oakland stands a chance to finally turn the page.Begin Slideshow
