No team improved more this offseason than the Oakland Raiders. The Raiders completely overhauled their linebacking corps, added two defensive linemen, two offensive linemen, and added some much needed depth to their secondary. Oh, and did I forget to mention that they released the disaster who wore No. 2 and traded for Jason Campbell? Despite the upgrades made by the Raiders, few are ready to call them a playoff contender. Saturday's NFL cut deadline provided the Raiders an opportunity to end all debate over whether or not they are ready to compete for the AFC West. If the Oakland Raiders ...
Everybody is going to have their own opinion of who should have been cut and who should be kept on the 53-man roster for the Oakland Raiders.
It's clear that you can't please everybody.
I personally liked Colt Brennan, but the performance of Kyle Boller is what shifted my opinion. It's good to see that the Oakland Raiders have a good group of quarterbacks.
Now is the time for the wide receivers to come up to par. Clumsy and careless mistakes will not be tolerated.
Now, after reading a few articles, it just seems a bit premature to decide that the decisions to cut ...
Well, the cut to 53 players was made today as we all know, and there were a few surprises but in all, things shook down mostly as expected.
It was a bit of a surprise that, given the struggles of the run game, Manase Tonga was not retained. He showed excellent ability to block, and in the game against the Seattle Seahawks had a really nice catch and run that showcased some athleticism that people perhaps didn't know he possessed. I know I didn't.
Keeping Marcel Reece after the big play ability he showed in the screen game made sense; I just ...
I don't think anyone can argue that Jamarcus Russell is one of the worst quarterbacks of all time. Man what a bust. With the #1 pick in the 2007 draft, the Raiders passed on Adrian Peterson, Darrelle Revis, Brady Quinn, Calvin Johnson, Patrick Willis, Kevin Kolb and Sydney Rice just to name a few. With Russell finally gone, and Jason Campbell taking the snaps, the Raiders are finally poised to make a run at the AFC west title.Begin Slideshow
Today is the day that the Oakland Raiders will trim the team to 53 men. The thought of the decisions today may already be causing some players emotional pain.
The men who are on the roster knew that this day was coming.
Some of them put their whole heart into making the team. Some fell short using their own standards to judge their performance.
A coach's perception may not agree with the individual player's perception of how well he did during preseason.
It's sort of like the phrase "For whom the bell tolls." As Oakland Raiders and other NFL players sit and think today, the players ...
The former No. 4 prospect in baseball Jeremy Hermida signed a Minor League deal with the Oakland Athletics on Friday.
Hermida, 26, has been inconsistent in his major league career so far, as his best season was back in 2007 with the Florida Marlins, where he hit 18 home runs and drove in 63 runs while hitting .296 for the year.
After that season, he hit .259 in 2008 and .249 in 2007: clearly becoming worse as each new season started.
Earlier this year, Hermida signed with the Boston Red Sox, expecting him to be the 4th outfielder for the team.
He disappointed the ...
If anyone is concerned about the depth chart, you can feel better when you look at the Oakland Raiders quarterback position.
Jason Campbell is the starting quarterback. Kyle Boller and Bruce Gradkowski played in the Sept. 2 game and they both did a great job.
There is no doubt that there is still room for improvement, but the Oakland Raiders made a lot of people happy in the Raider Nation with the 3-1 win-loss record during preseason. It was a tremendous improvement over the 2009 preseason according to one writer in the comment strand.
The one thing that some of us want the Raiders to regain ...
Raiders fans have all kind of excuses as to why Nick Miller and JLH should not be a part of the regular receiving rotation.
"Louis Murphy (team leader in drops) is a beast, he caught a TD pass against the Steelers, blah blah blah"..." Hayward-Bey will be way better with a good QB, blah, blah, blah." Preseason stats: five catches, zero TD.
Now on to the playmakers.
First let's discuss the excuses; "Nick Miller is to small." "He only does this against the backups" (He only plays against the backups). "He's a seventh rounder." "He's white" (oops that was your subconscious).
Well, all of ...
ESPN's Calvin Watkins is reporting that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Patrick Crayton wants to be released. In six NFL seasons Crayton has 196 catches for 2,888 yards and 23 touchdowns in 82 games. Crayton has become a trusted veteran for quarterback Tony Romo. However the Cowboys seem interested in keeping younger wide receivers like Dez Bryant, their first round pick in the draft, and Kevin Ogletree, Sam Hurd, and Jesse Holley. The Oakland Raiders have a need for a veteran wide receiver to help with the development of Darrius Heyward-Bey, Louis Murphy, Jacoby Ford, and Chaz Schilens and I think ...
The Oakland Raiders have finished the 2010 preseason schedule with a 3-1 record and are now looking to prove they can play just as well, if not better, during the regular season. The Raiders have been trying to rebuild ever since losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneer's in the Gruden Bowl. Now, as the regular season is about to kick off, the Raiders will once again attempt to put those years behind them and return to their rightful place atop the NFL. The Raiders had a very busy offseason as they completely overhauled the defensive front seven, hired new coaches, ...
