You've heard it a million times: The Oakland Raiders haven't won back to back games since 2008.  I'm no mathematician, but given this fact, it means that the silver and black typically plan on achieving an 8-8 record at best.  In the Rich Gannon era, circa 1999-2002, Oakland boasted the winning-est record in football, as the PA announcer would commonly reiterate to a once packed house in the East Bay.  Times have changed, as Oakland now deals with having one of the worst records of this decade.  But can Run DMC change all that? The Raiders sit at a decent 3-4 ...
This Sunday’s upcoming tilt between the Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks features the Raiders third ranked rushing game colliding against the Seahawks second ranked rushing defense.  As the Raiders and Seahawks are both pretty much average in their respective passing games on both sides of the ball and are closely matched on special teams, this game is likely to be decided in the head to head battle on the ground and in the trenches.  We all saw that Oakland Raider running back Darren McFadden, in the midst of a breakout season, is responding well to his earlier hamstring injury with a career day against ...
Outrageous Comparisons on Halloween Weekend Revisited Article Yes, I used the word "outrageous," because what has happened to the Oakland Raiders in the past seven years is outrageous. Having the audacity to compare aspects of the Oakland Raiders franchise with the New Orleans Saints, Indianapolis Colts, and Pittsburgh Steelers is probably going to piss somebody off—and it is a good thing to get a little agitated. Let's just say it is about time to examine the Raiders' situation from every angle, leaving no stones unturned. Anybody who thinks that numbers are not important is living in a very limited reality, in my opinion. If numbers ...
When Darrius Heyward-Bey went out of the Denver Broncos game last week, I was expecting to see Johnie Lee Higgins step in as the team's next wide receiver on the depth chart.  Surprise! It's the fourth round pick rookie Jacoby Ford who steps in and takes over as the starter at wide receiver.  Ford wasn't bad as he made two catches and ran two wide receiver reverses, but I would rather see the electric, fast, veteran(ish) Johnie Lee Higgins.   But take a look at Ford's "mug shot" as he dropped a pass that lost the game for Oakland at San Francisco. Not that it's ...
What a difference a year can make. Seattle finished third in the NFC West with a 5-11 record a season ago. It is currently sitting on top of the division with a 4-2 mark in 2010.This was supposed to be a rebuilding year under new head coach Pete Carroll, but the Seahawks are off to their best start since 2006.They took over sole possession of first place in the NFC West with a 22-10 win over two-time defending division champ Arizona last Sunday.  But defeating an Oakland Raiders team coming off ...
Oh Raiders, how you confuse and confound us so. One week the Pop Warner-like offense is stalled by the San Francisco 49ers in a putrid effort leading to an uninspired loss. The next week, they look like the Oregon Ducks on offense and roll over a division rival, putting up the most points in franchise history and showing everyone that this offense is no longer of the bed and breakfast variety.Which team is the Oakland Raiders? As always, when an entity fluctuates between two extremes, the answer lies somewhere in the middle.I'll tell you which team the Raiders are not: the ...
The spirit of most folks in the Raider Nation is high. Sunday's game is on Halloween, a day when folks like to scare each other. It makes sense, then, that the Oakland Raiders are to muster up some of their scariest moves and strategies to strike fear and "beat the mess" out of the Seattle Seahawks. Feathers should be flying across the field. Scared birds usually flutter so fast they lose a few feathers. Of course, some folks in the Raider Nation are afraid that the Raiders are going to let them down. Since it has been a long time since the Raiders have won two games ...
Seattle Seahawks at Oakland Raiders Sunday October 31st, 2010 4:15 PM EST Line: Oakland -3 Overview It may seem hard to believe, but Pete Carroll has led the Seahawks to first place in their division and a 4-2 record. They travel to the Bay Area to take on the 3-4 Oakland Raiders, who destroyed the Broncos last week by 45 points on the road. While the Seahawks and Raiders both have shown improvement from last season, the two teams have faced unbelievably easy opponents thus far, making them difficult teams to read. Keys to the ...
Over at my site—www.GuysNation.com—I do a weekly power ranking of all 32 NFL teams.  It's a hugely subjective process in which I try to account for a team's strength of schedule, margin of victory, good wins and bad losses. Where do the Oakland Raiders currently rank? I usually try not to get too excited about any one victory, even in the case of blow-out wins by huge margins.  There are exceptions, though, and when a team wins a road game in their division, that says a lot.  It either says that a team ...
On October 24, 2010, the Oakland Raiders beat the Denver Broncos at Invesco Field, 59-14. I have heard several columnists and fans touting Darren McFadden’s performance for this win. He dominated the Denver defense behind a stellar offensive line, but the tone of this game was set early on the other side of the ball. John Marshall started the game utilizing “the elephant scheme” and blitzing at least one LB/S. Marshall proved on Sunday that our secondary can man up against anyone for four seconds. Blitzing applies pressure on the QB, forcing early and errant throws. It took away running lanes, forcing ...
