In a modern day society, where short-term memories are prevalent, JaMarcus Russell walks around each day with the "bust" label on him like a permanent tattoo.  "Biggest NFL Bust Ever" is probably used a lot more than he realizes, even if it is unfair and living in the moment way too much. History shows us that there are many players drafted first overall, like Russell was in 2007, who did not have the career many had anticipated.  While Russell carries the term of biggest bust now, relieving Ryan Leaf of that title, it mainly comes from the fact that he held out ...
I recently wrote an article arguing for the hiring of Bill Parcells by the Oakland Raiders. One of the unintended results of the article was a vigorous discussion in which the name Jon Gruden was repeatedly mentioned. This got me thinking about the legacy that Gruden has created in Oakland. Without a doubt, the majority of Raiders fans are also huge Jon Gruden fans and would love to see him come back to the Raiders in Oakland's very own story of the prodigal son. I am one of those fans. As a younger Raider fan, the only winning Raiders team I ...
It would seem as though Raider fans have been taken as fools. Last year we were led to believe that all of the offensive failures were all on one position and one man: QB JaMarcus Russell. Tom Cable told us that we would have been in the playoffs, if we had only had average QB play. Well, Raider-Nation, we got Jason Campbell and based off of the numbers he put up last year, he is by definition an average QB. By some accounts he was even above average. Now with our average QB we are still no where near a playoff caliber team. Matter of ...
You don't have to remind the Raider Nation that the Oakland Raiders have a 2-4 win-loss record this season. Even so, many of the fans still wear their gear, and look forward to the next game. Sometimes I drive about 90 miles to visit a man who loves the Oakland Raiders, no matter what the record is. He has a steady gaze and look of concern when you ask him about the Raiders. I know to stay positive with him. He will not tolerate any other attitude. I think that what is perplexing to him and to others in the Raider Nation ...
Earlier this week, Magic Johnson sold his share of the Los Angeles Lakers and his 105 Starbucks for $100 million. When asked by the LA Times of the possibility of bringing an NFL team back to Los Angeles Johnson answered, "Of course I would be interested. Have I talked to anybody about it? No. But I would love to; I would do that in two seconds."Los Angeles hasn't had an NFL franchise since the Raiders played their last game in 1994.There have always been rumors of an NFL team returning to the City of Angels. Here are five teams that Magic could ...
Hello again, Raider Nation, and welcome to this week's edition of Pressures, Hurries, and Knockdowns, Raider style. After beating the Chargers, the team got a bit of a reprieve from me last week as there were less pressures and general negativity than usual. One thing I mentioned, though, was being worried about playing an 0-5 rival Niners squad that would be fired up and motivated to win.Well I was half right; the Niners were 0-5 and I was worried, but they weren't fired up or inspired at all.Unfortunately, after stagnating on two early drives, neither were we, and the malaise in ...
The Oakland Raiders will travel to the Mile High city to take on the Denver Broncos on Sunday, October 24th.Every remaining game are "must wins" for the Raiders after falling to 2-4 by putting up a pathetic performance against the 49ers in San Francisco. This divisional game against the Broncos carries a lot more weight than most games. These teams don't like each other, they both want nothing more than to defeat the other, and both desperately need a divisional win. After embarrassing themselves in San Francisco, the Raiders should have something to prove. If they come out an play like they ...
The Raiders went into the regular season with three quarterbacks in Jason Campbell, Bruce Gradkowski and Kyle Boller.  Injuries through the first six weeks have taken out Gradkowski (shoulder) and have hurt Campbell (knee). So why are we CONSIDERING that Kyle Boller SHOULD start instead of NAMING Kyle Boller the starter for week seven at Denver?  Bruce Gradkowski tried to play after being injured in Oakland's instant classic win against San Diego in week five and he couldn't do it.  Jason Campbell has a knee injury and behind Oakland's offensive line maximum mobility is needed to escape pass rush and extend plays. So why is it even a question of whether or ...
The Oakland Raiders players and fans are still waiting for the return of Bruce "Almighty" Gradkowski. However, it appears that he will still be sidelined with a shoulder injury, and third string QB Kyle Boller will be given the opportunity to launch missiles down the field and attack the Denver Bronco defense. Kyle Boller is a former Baltimore Raven QB, and has shown in the past that he can win games. Boller does have a good arm and has made some great come from behind wins. But can he defeat the Denver Broncos at home, and is he the new second-string ...
Those of you who have been following news in the NFL this week know that Bill Parcells officially moved out of the Dolphins headquarters earlier in the week. This comes after Parcells stepped down as president of football operations in order to be a "consultant" for the team. Parcells has a history of coming to struggling teams, turning them around in a few years then beating a path out of town. In his career, Parcells has turned around struggling teams in the New York Giants,  New England Patriots, New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys and finally the Miami Dolphins. With every one of ...
