You already know the patterns of the past. Let's look at the trajectory of winning more games for the future. It's good to be able to say that at this point in the 2010 season there is a 2-3 win-loss record. It's even better to see there is an opportunity to get back-to-back wins on Oct. 17. Did you know that 17 has been called a number that denotes "victory." Even if I am wrong, it certainly sounds good. The kind of determination and wit of Jack Tatum, the assassin, is needed in the game between the Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco ...
Note: The quotes in this article are fictional. Oakland @ San Francisco (-6½)   After last week's 27-24 loss to the Eagles, the struggling 49ers are one of only three winless teams in the league, along with the Bills and Panthers. Again, turnovers killed San Fran's chances, with five giveaways dooming their chances to register in the win column. Rumors are swirling about the security of head coach Mike Singletary's job, although team president Jed York gave the team a vote of confidence when he guaranteed the 49ers would win the division. "I could stand here," said York, "and tell you that Singletary's job is ...
The Raiders of the National Football League have had many great players over the years, and yet, a strong case can be made for many others.  As difficult as this was to do, I made a list of the ten best players in the history of the Raiders that are not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The key to choosing the right ten was to ask the following two-part questions.Question 1:  Can the history of pro football be written without him?  How does he compare to a current member of the Hall of Fame?Question 2: Did he dominate his ...
This week, the Oakland Raiders travel across the bay to face the San Francisco 49ers.For many fans, this game is merely an after-thought, as these two struggling teams aren't even in the same division, let alone the same conference. But for the players and fans of these teams, it's much more than just another game. This is for pride and bragging rights. This is the Battle of the Bay.Here are some of the many reasons this is more than just another game.Begin Slideshow
Well folks, it's that time again. Time for good 'ol PHK; but this time, things are a bit different. Things are a bit....happier. More relaxed. We are coming off one of our biggest wins in recent history, and the way it was done cannot be overlooked. This team showed more guts and fire than any of recent vintage. This team refused to quit, refused to go away, and kept taking the fight to the Chargers right to the very end.As a result, we beat those jokers for the first time in seven years. I didn't get to see the whole game ...
The Oakland Raiders and the San Francisco 49ers are all set to do battle for Bay Area bragging rights when they meet in a Week Six non-conference showdown. There hasn’t been much to brag about for either of these storied franchises in recent years. In fact, it has been eight years since the Raiders or 49ers have produced a winning season. Unfortunately, this trend may continue, considering Oakland is 2-3 and San Francisco is 0-5. NFL odds makers have some good news for 49ers fans, though. They expect San Francisco to record ...
The Oakland Raiders have stuck with a lot of players in the past that have basically  been paid to do nothing. Let me bring up some names like Desmond Howard, JaMarcus Russell, Javon Walker and lastly is the so-called WR Chaz Schilens. At the beginning of the season, many were skeptical about Darrius Heyward Bey. However, he has come out to play and has done rather well. There's still room for improvement, but he plays. So what happened to Chaz Schilens? Chaz Schilens played a few games last season. This season I've yet to see him on the field, yet he is ...
A lot of fans were worried when Bruce Gradkowski got hurt last Sunday against the Chargers in the first quarter.  Many were thinking that Jason Campbell didn't have what it takes to win with this Raiders team.  But Campbell proved all the critics wrong by rallying the Raiders to a win that buried a streak of 13 losses in a row to the Chargers.  In that game, Campbell completed 13 of 18 for 159 yards and a TD and he led a scoring drive of 97 yards.  Campbell looked like the version of Gradkowski that Raider Nation saw lead to wins against ...
The Oakland Raiders started the season 1-3 and the media was quick to claim that this team is the same team of years past. Most assumed that all the hype of the offseason was just that—hype. New quarterback Jason Campbell was scrapped after one-and-a-half games in favor of the scrappy reserve, Bruce Gradkowski, and they were still giving up big runs. Then the Raiders beat the favorite to win the AFC West last weekend when they hosted the San Diego Chargers. The Raiders withstood an outstanding performance by Phillip Rivers and played tough from start to finish in order to ...
I got to thinking about possible topics for my second post on B/R. I was gonna chirp about the Huge win over them Chargers, or maybe how bad our Defense is. But while trying to decide I realized I don’t even know who this team really is. These five games have been a roller coaster, from extreme lows to euphoric highs. I’m hoping next week Raider Nation can smoke another one and get high on a win against the 49ers. Can they put up back to back wins? Who knows, it seems like the Raiders are different team every Sunday. I'll provide some commentary, ...
