The injury riddled Oakland Raiders were trounced 33-17 by the Miami Dolphins on Sunday in Oakland. The score doesn't tell the story of just how lopsided this game was.The Raiders offense got spanked all over the field and did nothing to help the defense out.I didn't get to watch this game on television. This is a fact I'm grateful for, because listening to it on the internet was painful enough.Based on the stats and what I heard from Greg Papa and Tom Flores, this game came down to two statistics. Time of possession and turnovers. Both of these critical stats ...
Watching the last two games, it looks as if the "Great Regression" has hit Raider Nation. No wonder why the Raiders are getting blacked out on a weekly basis with one exception. After an uninspiring blowout loss the Pittsburgh Steelers, they follow it with another to the Miami Dolphins. The second of the two was much worse as the the Dolphins are a big step down from the Steelers. Also factoring into the equation is the fact that the Raiders were at home after losing in Pittsburgh.  This all happened after the Raiders looked new and improved after having a share of first place in the AFC ...
When Hue Jackson became the offensive coordinator and took over play-calling duty, he said that he was going to install a power running game.  He promised on that as the Raiders entered the game against Miami with the second best rushing offense in the NFL.  For some odd reason, he abandoned the running game and decided to air it out. Darren McFadden received just eight rushing attempts.  I know he didn't do anything with those eight carries, totalling just two yards, but you have to give him more tries at their defense than that.  The Raiders ran the ball just 12 ...
Bruce Gradkowski's return as the starting QB didn't go as planned and now appears unlikely to last any longer than one game.  On his final pass attempt, Bruce Gradkowski re-injured the shoulder that kept him out of action for five weeks.  Maybe he wasn't fully healed in the first place.  His arm looked weak today.  There were plays out there to be made but he simply didn't have the "arm" to get it done. After the game Gradkowski said that it felt a lot like the way it did when he first injured his shoulder against the Chargers.  Actually, it was against ...
Do you need a little pep talk? Some of us in the Raider Nation need one. While filing some papers, I discovered a copy of an article written by Jim Scott. He wrote for The Sporting News and the article was dated Dec. 5, 1970. The article mentions pro players Johnny Fuller, Wayne Moore, Tony Guillory, Jesse Phillips, Willie Ray Smith and others. It also says that Warren Wells was the cousin of Jerry LeVias, Mel Farr, Miller Farr, Bubba Smith, Tody Smith and Clancy Williams. Their grandfather was the late Charlie LeVias and he had more than 100 descendants at the time the article was ...
Well, it was good while it lasted this season. After the Raiders fell flat against San Francisco, I thought the season was over.  The Raiders then shocked the NFL world for the next three weeks with dominant wins over Denver and Seattle and then a thrilling victory over Kansas City that would put the Raiders in first place. For a week. Here we are again in Raider Nation, the wind taken out of our sails.  The piss taken out of our vinegar. Now, the Raiders (5-6) will face the surging San Diego Chargers (6-5).  As a fan, I will not ...
Since the Rich Gannon era in the beginning of this decade, the Raiders have been in constant search for the next best thing. So far, it's been to no avail. From Daunte Culpepper, Andrew Walter and JaMarcus Russell to Bruce Gradkowski and Jason Campbell, Raiders fans have been collectively shaking their heads at what has been a downright abysmal last seven years. Maybe it's so frustrating this season because of the glimpse of flash on offense and the brilliant play of the front four on defense. That still doesn't address any questions regarding our constant uncertainty at who lines up behind center. Oakland came into the ...
It looks like everything was trying to interfere with my viewing the game today. The atmosphere was heavy with negativity. By the time I settled down to look at the game, the score was 10-7 with Miami in the lead. There was a time period before halftime that the Oakland Raiders had the lead, but a lot of things went wrong after halftime. Slipping backwards is what we saw and it all happened after bye week. If you ask me, some teams don't need the so-called bye week. The Oakland Raiders had a powerful momentum for three consecutive games before bye week and ...
The Raiders started showing flashes of becoming a competitive team during their three-game winning streak. During that streak, the Raiders resembled a professional football team. Their offense was running the ball, their defense was dominating and perhaps more importantly, the same guy was under center. Jason Campbell had started the last four games for the Raiders. Two of those games their offense surpassed 500 yards of total offense. During that stretch, Campbell threw five touchdowns to two interceptions. Despite his play and the Raiders 3-1 record during that four-game stretch, he still appeared to be on a short leash with ...
Listen up. The Raiders were awful today. Take away Jacoby Ford, and we got three points. Terrible. What, exactly, was Hue Jackson's gameplan? There honestly was no pattern in the plays he was calling. It seemed like he got away from the run quickly after two or three bad rushes. Seriously, his play-calling was almost as erratic as Bruce Gradkowski. Don't put this loss on just the offense, though. Defensively, the players played bad. Plain and simple. They couldn't stop the run or the pass. McFadden looked like he was a third-stringer for the Sacramento Mountain Lions. I can seriously say with confidence that Stanford Routt ...
