Should Tom Cable get a contract extension after this season?
The raging battle between the Cable supporters and the non-supporters has begun.
Many are hoping Cable stays for another year, and others are hoping the Raiders hire Hue Jackson or someone else.
Regardless of what side you are on, the main objective is the same: Bring the Raiders back to the playoffs and their winning ways.
Most Cable supporters are quick to point out the improvement of the team's record this year, but are Raiders fans so used to losing that they are getting too excited about not losing 11 games this year?
The Raiders ...
Once again, the Oakland Raiders will end a season in early January, short of the playoffs.
This failure to reach the postseason will be the driving force behind speculation about head coach Tom Cable's job security.
Some of the evidence to be used against Tom Cable will be his winning percentage of less than .400 and his revolving door at quarterback.
For his low winning percentage, how many of those losses were with JaMarcus Russell at quarterback? As to the revolving door at quarterback, he replaced Russell with Bruce Gradkowski in 2009, and Gradkowski won two of three games he played fully.
So with ...
This morning I read an article on why the Oakland Raiders should keep coach Tom Cable. It made sense to me.
Stability is what the Oakland Raiders need. If we were to compare the performance of the Oakland Raiders with the range of a singer who can hit contralto notes and even soprano notes in a melody, then the Oakland Raiders did have that wide range of performance.
We groaned in a contralto voice when they made mistakes, fumbles and other glitches.
We screamed in a soprano voice when they made so many touchdowns and points, totaling 59 in one outstanding game.
At least ...
The 2010 season Oakland Raiders have done a great job improving performance with the addition of key personnel. The first position that needed upgrade was QB. QB JaMarcus Russell holds the record for world's greatest NFL Bust, and, unfortunately, he gained it coming to Oakland. The Raiders went out and enrolled a young Jason Campbell, who had a rough start in Oakland but in the end he has become a Raider Nation favorite. On both sides of the ball there have been key replacements and upgrading. Had it not been for some costly mistakes and losses this season, the Oakland Raiders ...
Speculation is rampant that Tom Cable could be let go after the season. After all, Raiders owner Al Davis expected playoffs this season. Surely Coach Cable promised playoffs. However, the Raiders are eliminated from the division at 7-8 with the Chiefs clinching the AFC West Sunday. Now what? Assume the Raiders win in Kansas City (they will). They break even at 8-8 and have had their best season in seven years. This might be Al Davis' roster, but they are Tom Cable's players. Each player truly believes that Cable is the guy for the next few years. The Raiders are only a made ...
The Oakland Raiders have successfully earned their way out of the bottom half of the NFL. Clearly the Raiders have not achieved all of their goals, but they have made improvements and will be going into the off-season with a good foundation to build on.
For the last eight years, the Oakland Raiders have had off-seasons that can only be described as a bull in a china shop. Trust me I was there.
With so many coaching changes, and a list of the players that didn't want to be there, the critical off-season has not been as productive as needed.
The Raiders have been caught up in the so called "rebuilding process" for the majority of the last ...
You don't expect a baby to come out of the womb walking, do you?
Well, we didn't expect the Oakland Raiders to make giant steps toward the Super Bowl in 2010. We only wanted to see remarkable and consistent signs of improvement.
What did they give us? They gave us something to look forward to in 2011.
Anytime you see that a team move from a 5-11 in 2009 to a 7-8 or so record, you have to admit that things were better in 2010.
Just as injuries take time to heal, wounded seasonal records need time to be overcome, as well.
If you rush ...
The Oakland Raiders' postseason hopes officially ended on Sunday when the Kansas City Chiefs won their 10th game of the season. One game remains for the Raiders, and after that Al Davis faces a decision that may have the Raider Nation split. Should Tom Cable's contract be renewed or should Davis head in a different direction? There are many out there who believe Cable should be retained because the Raiders have had their best season since 2002 and are improving. For argument's sake, I'll go against those thoughts and state my case as to why Cable should be let go ...
The Oakland Raiders will end the best season they've had since 2002 next week. Coming into the Week 16 against the Indianapolis Colts was the latest that the Raiders were in contention for the playoffs since then as well. But the Raiders learned that they had come up short of the 2010 playoffs with a Kansas City Chief win earlier. The Raiders then came up short against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday. For the Oakland Raiders, it has been a season of good wins and painful losses. Before today's game finished, the Raiders were out of the playoffs, due to a win by the Chiefs against a Titans team that didn't look anything like the Week 1 opponent. For your viewing pain, take a look at these 10 things, that either the Raiders have to learn from...or hope the NFL can fix for seasons to come...Begin Slideshow
