Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

Al Davis has always done things his way.  His approach to the game is different, to say the least, than most other franchises.  Although a lot of people disagree with his ways, you can't forget that he does have three Super Bowl trophies and had his Raiders in position for a fourth in 2002.  This offseason just started for the Raiders and Al Davis has already made some headlines.  The first was not picking up the option on Tom Cable.  Many believed he should have been retained but third place in a weak AFC West didn't cut it in Al Davis' ...
Everyone should have a mentor to help them see the world differently. My mentor is a retired professor from the United States Military Academy. After many years of watching him demonstrate the use and applications of mathematics in other disciplines, including sports, I learned a few things. Eventually, I initiated a project with calculus students, requiring them to build a math model to compare former Oakland Raiders wide receivers. The paper that the students wrote gained a lot of attention. It was published in a West Point newsletter, edited by Don Small. Since our effort, there has been a national day of awareness ...
Things are currently looking a little bleak for the Raider Nation The Raiders do not believe in a having a general manager, so all of the football business is handled by the owner, Al Davis and the head coach. Oakland has not renewed the contract of Tom Cable and have not appointed anyone new, so they currently do not have a head coach. Offensive coordinator Hue Jackson is rumored to be the head coach-in-waiting but his first move of the offseason was to interview for the head coaching role at the 49ers. The Raiders are currently sending three players to this year's Pro Bowl and TE ...
Al Davis has done himself a great, big favor by letting Tom Cable go. Cable only needs to not let the door hit 'em where the lord split 'em and take his boys wit 'em. Cable's boys were a definite detriment to the Raider cause of making the playoffs this year. It's funny how the very thing that gets a head coach hired (offensive line) is what ultimately gets him fired. It is my belief that Hue Jackson with his high powered offense will remain in Raider Nation as the head coach. That will be the stability the Raiders need as the players master the Xs ...
At 8-8 the Raiders have made 2010 a season to remember, unfortunately Raider nation didn't have much time to enjoy as the Oakland Raiders once again shuffle the deck of cards to find another head coach.   By now everyone knows how I feel about Tom Cable. He was a great position coach but I didn't think he had what it took to be a head coach.  To everyone's surprise, Tom progressed through the year and proved to fans that he wasn't just some big dumb glut.   It's not as if I blame Cable; there isn't a coach in the NFL that would turn down a head coaching job. Al put ...
Well with Nnamdi Asomugha's contract being voided and him becoming a free agent, the Raiders are in more trouble than ever. I just don't see him wanting to come back to the Raiders even if they offered him the big money to stay. This is his chance to see what else is out there and to get some coaching stability with another team. This will indeed hurt the Raiders in a few ways. They will lose their instant intimidation factor in the secondary. They will lose a veteran leader not only on the defense but for the whole team. With him leaving, the other ...
The news is not getting any better for the Oakland Raiders. The first shock in Oakland was the firing of head coach Tom Cable. Now it is the possible loss of its best DB Nnamdi Asomugha. Cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will become the top defensive free agent when the market opens. The Oakland Raiders can not put the franchise tag on Asomugha either since his contract is voided.  This 2010 season, Nnamdi Asomugha needed to play in a greater number of defensive plays this season than he did in 2009. Asomugha participated in 14 games whereas last season he was ...
Nnamdi Asomugha is a free agent. At least according to reports all over the Internet which claim that Asomugha's contract became void as the result of him not reaching certain goals this past season. In order for the Raiders to have an option for the 2011 season, Asomugha would have had to have played in more defensive plays than in 2009, or improve on his interception, sack or fumble recovery numbers from 2009. None of those things occurred. This is devastating news for the Raider Nation. Asomugha is one of the top two cornerbacks in the NFL and is capable ...
Nnamdi Asomugha is no longer an Oakland Raider. The Raiders contract with Asomugha is now voided due to failure to meet incentives during the season. Asomugha was due $16 million next season, or the average between the top five paid quarterbacks in the NFL. The Raiders will not be able to franchise tag him because of a clause in his contract. This should have the majority of the Raider Nation very upset. This is the second move in about a week that has left many fans scratching their heads. Al Davis decided not to pick up Tom Cable's two year option last week. ...
It was announced earlier today that Oakland Raiders Pro Bowl cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will join the 2011 free agency class because of a clause most fans did not know about. Though Oakland will most likely push hard to re-sign him, you never know with Al Davis, and he may look to shed some green. If this were to become reality, half the league could show interest in Asomugha. The 49ers, Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens are just a few that make sense. Each of these teams could have unique appeals to Asomugha. The Baltimore Ravens make sense because they ...
