Tuesday, January 4th, 2010. I get home at 6:30, eagerly waiting to see if Tom Cable, current Oakland Raiders head coach, has been fired.I hop on the computer. No news yet. However, Hue Jackson, expected to be Cable's replacement if he is fired, has gotten permission by the Raiders to be interviewed by Bay Area rival the 49ers.I immediately know Cable is finished off as head coach of the Raiders.Of course, I am correct. Four hours later, I switch on the television while getting to bed. The breaking news: Tom Cable has not been retained.Immediately a firestorm of protest by ...
A Review
It's a new season of preparation and selection for the Oakland Raiders. Some new guys have been looked at and they are going to get upgraded next season.
Two of them are wide receivers and that is a position I love to watch. In my opinion, if there are stellar wide receivers on board with the Oakland Raiders, the outcome of the games is going to be fantastic.
I have come to this opinion by looking at historical data which, I believe, supports that claim. Guys like Cliff Branch, Jerry Rice, and Fred Biletnikoff certainly made a difference in their ...
Al Davis was and still is a great football mind. He is responsible for the "team of the decades," three Super Bowl victories and possibly more hall-of-famers than any other NFL owner.
Yet many people, even some Raider fans, openly discredit his brilliance. They give credit elsewhere when something positive happens within the organization, and blame Davis for anything negative.
They said Tom Cable changed the culture in Oakland, Tom Cable motivated the players, Tom Cable was responsible for the draft...
What about Al Davis?
Enough about Tom Cable already. With a reputation for drafting physical freaks, tracks stars and combine breakouts, Al Davis ...
As we close in on the start of the 2011 baseball season, one of the most fascinating players—in my opinion at least—is Brett Anderson of the Oakland Athletics. I mean, where should this guy be drafted in fantasy leagues? He has elite potential, but Oakland's pedestrian offense will limit his win potential, and without dominating strikeout numbers he might only be a force in ERA and WHIP. How did we get here in Anderson's short career? Oakland's top pitching prospect had a nice rookie season in 2009, finishing 11-11 with a 4.06 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP. He showed a ...
Tom Cable was let go as head coach of the Oakland Raiders this week after leading the franchise to one of its best seasons in quite some time. The Raiders went 8-8 in 2010, including a perfect 6-0 mark against the AFC West. For the first time since the franchise spiraled into an abyss following its loss to Tampa Bay in Super Bowl XXXVII, it seemed like the Raiders were for real. Players were responding to Cable, and the team came just two wins shy of winning the division and hosting a playoff game. Cable's three seasons in Oakland were all for nothing, it ...
Tom Cable was let go by the Oakland Raiders in a move that made many fans and players angry.
This is a move that needed to be done for the Raiders to make the next step and become a playoff team.
Al Davis should not wait too long to make the move that everyone has expected he would make since the day he hired Hue Jackson. Many fans do not know much about Jackson, but the Raiders are in better hands with him as head coach.
If Davis names Jackson the head coach immediately, the team will feel much better about the situation.
Making ...
After Tom Cable was notified that the Oakland Raiders would not be exercising their option on his contract this offseason, pro bowl punter Shane Lechler was the first, and really only, Raider to sound off on what had happened.
Lechler, along with a number of other Raiders, were vocal before the end of the season that Tom Cable should be kept on as head coach. Lechler even went so far as to say that he just couldn't play for another coach in Oakland after playing for six different coaches in his career in Oakland.
Then, when the Raiders declined to do so, Lechler did what would guarantee ...
Tom Cable is finally gone. Too bad it's too late.
The Raiders once again had the talent to compete in 2010, despite having Curly Howard as their resident leader for the ENTIRE 2010 campaign.
Sorry guys, I slept through this suspense-less drama of a season. I didn't need to see the Raiders best playmakers mysteriously ride the pine for half the season (you name 'em).
Why did Chaz Shilenz come back? Did he purposely do that to piss me off? Could it be that Kirk Morrison had a better rookie year than Rolando McClain? Maybe be it's the scheme the Raiders play that ...
Only one team in the National Football League finished the regular season with an undefeated record within its division.
Yet, somehow, that coach is now looking for a new job.
If something absurd occurred with coaching changes and management turmoil, the likelihood of it unfolding in Oakland is pretty high.
Al Davis’ slogan, “Just Win, Baby,” is clearly alive and well.
Davis, the owner of the Oakland Raiders, made a decision that has come with much speculation and one that should not be any surprise coming from him.
This time, while making his ultimate decision, Davis did not hold an obnoxious and memorable press conference ...
Vince Young will not be a member of the Tennessee Titans in 2011. The team announced they will part ways with Young, meaning that Jeff Fisher will likely remain as the team's head coach. Young will either be released or traded in the coming months.Since being drafted third overall in 2006, Young had a 57.9% completion percentage with 8,098 passing yards, 42 TD passes, 42 INTs, 1,380 rushing yards and 12 rushing TDs.Here is a look at the most likely teams Vince Young will play for in 2011.Begin Slideshow
