Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

I must start this blog by saying that I was conflicted about whether the Oakland Raiders should fire coach Tom Cable. Firing him would create uncertainty.  At the same time, Al Davis could not afford to let go of offensive coordinator Hue Jackson, who was being considered as a head coach for other teams. That is what the members of the Oakland Raiders must remember.  It wasn't Tom Cable calling the offensive plays this season.  The offense that scored over 400 points was not the result of Tom Cable. Meaning that, with Jackson as the head coach (assuming that's the case), there won't ...
"With the 44th pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select Lamarr Houston, defensive tackle, Texas." At first, I was confused.  I had no idea who Houston was, and why we didn't use our pick to draft an offensive lineman.  I immediately went onto YouTube and typed in Lamarr Houston, expecting to see some fat defensive tackle.  Instead, I saw a small, strong, and dominating player that was both a run-stopping machine, while possessing some very impressive pass rushing skills. It didn't take me long to jump on the Houston Bandwagon.  I remember how excited I got when I would ...
Some folks saw it coming. Others were in denial. As for me and my gang, we are going to try to trust the recent move of dismissing Tom Cable and hope that it strengthens rather than destabilizes a growing team with an 8-8 in 2010. I sort of enjoyed Tom Cable and the fact that he fights back and demands respect. Let's look at it like this: I have heard that Al Davis hired Hue Jackson, and he picked Jason Campbell and others. It looks like Campbell was a good choice. The choice of Jackson seems good, too. I am ...
Tom Cable is gone in Oakland! To those on the inside, this is no shock. An anonymous source close to the organization suggested earlier in the season that Cable’s job was dependant on the progress made this season. 6-0 in the AFC West and the first none losing season in years, were both indications of great improvement, however, are these stats directly attributed to Cable? Or if it were up to Cable and fate, would things have happened differently? Before the 2010 season started, Al Davis brought in Jason Campbell, saying "I see this young Jason Campbell as a football player like I ...
The Oakland Raiders have dug themselves yet another black hole. Al Davis, in his infinite wisdom, decided the latest move in his 2011 version of a Commitment To Excellence, should be to show head coach Tom Cable the door. Davis decided to forget the fact that this team of his was making progress, it's simply time to join the crowd and begin yet another version of As Al Davis' World Turns. And things are flying fast and furious around Raiders headquarters as we speak. Seems once Cable was informed that his contract would not be renewed, some pesky source—The San Francisco Chronicle, no less—proclaimed ...
The Raiders chose to decline now former head coach Tom Cable’s option. Is it a good move or a bad move? The Oakland Raiders went out, competed and played hard for Tom Cable. The players wanted to continue to play for Tom Cable, although a .500 record wasn’t enough for Al Davis. The Raiders had a nice resurgence in 2010. That resurgence followed some solid pick ups in free agency and one of the best draft classes in years. Tom Cable was at the helm when the Raiders ended a seven-year streak of losing 11 games per season. Tom Cable was ...
Thanks Tom Cable for your contributions to the Oakland Raiders. I know that this may be a difficult time for you. Let's just think of this as a race toward a goal that needs acceleration. It reminds me of a 4 by 1 relay race where the decision to place the fastest man in the anchor leg position is made. Who is that faster man who can move the Oakland Raiders quickly to a playoff and/or a Super Bowl? Is it Hue Jackson? If so, the decision will be made to hire him. If not, find the man, quickly. There are levels of excellence ...
On Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, the Oakland Raiders announced that they would not be renewing the contract of now-former head coach Tom Cable. Does it surprise anyone that Al Davis actually made yet another bad decision? This announcement came on the heels of a decisive win over the Kansas City Chiefs, marking the most successful season in recent Raiders history. It seemed as though Cable was finally turning the program around, but now that's over. Read on for the 10 reasons why this was a dumb move. Begin Slideshow
The Oakland Raiders made it official Tuesday evening: Tom Cable is no longer the head coach of the Oakland Raiders. For the first time since the Raiders were demolished in the Super Bowl by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Raider fans finally felt like the team was headed in the right direction. The offense was looking better than it had in years, the defense looked like it would grow to be one of the best in the league, and the Raiders dominated the AFC West. However, it appears as though the lack of a playoff birth doomed Tom Cable. If you will ...
When every NFL team goes into a draft each year, they visualize what each available player can do for them. After deciding on which player to draft, they make definite plans on how to utilize each player to the best of their abilities.Unfortunately, much like how not all dreams come true, not every player performs quite up to or even near expectations. Those who do immediately usually are met with high praise, even in a league where results are expected immediately in a profession that has an average life of two years. Most expect the rookie to take awhile to assimilate, ...
