Ever since the Oakland Raiders swept the AFC West and ended its season with an 8-8 record, there have been rumors popping up everywhere saying that Oakland Raiders head coach Tom Cable has lost his job or been fired from the Oakland Raiders organization. This was discarded by many when Al Davis allowed Hue Jackson to have talks with the 49ers for a head coaching position. Hopefully, Hue Jackson will remain with the Oakland Raiders organization since he has done a lot for the team and the team is looking promising. Fact of the matter is, where Tom Cable is involved, it ...
The 2010 regular season just ended and Adam Schefter is already reporting that, "according to sources," Al Davis will not keep Tom Cable as head coach of his Oakland Raiders.  Schefter isn't alone on this one; Chris Mortensen, Jason La Canfora and Michael Lombardi are a few of the big name NFL Mediots that have reported the same fabricated story. It was just last year that everyone in the media was reporting that Al Davis would dismiss Tom Cable as soon as the season was over. Well the season ended, Black Monday passed and Tom Cable was still with the Raiders.  Then they ...
Well, there you have it ladies and gentleman, not a perfect season but one to remember.  I want every Raider fan to know even though it seems like the Oakland Raiders always have crazy issues going on, so does everyone else.  Every team has issues. An NFL season is full of ups and downs and whichever team can figure out how to manage their problems the best, will always prevail.  I keep in contact with several players throughout the NFL, so I get to hear all of the dirty secrets from each team. Some of the things that go on behind closed doors would put most people on the ...
Dearest Mister Davis, This is a sincere attempt to reach out (through Bleacher Report) in hopes that your decision on the Head Coach of the Oakland Raiders be that of extending the contract of Tom Cable at least for one more year. As a fan of The Raider Nation, we do make a commitment to excellence and understand your tenacity as well as the frustration that must be lingering above your head with the (recent) stagnant operations of arguably the NFL's most exciting team. But we as fans (some of us) do want you to (re)consider bringing Mister Cable back, even if just ...
Do you want to find a way to see the pattern of performance for the Oakland Raiders? When and where did the team improve? Aren't there many ways to see change, regression or improvement? Yes, so let's experiment. Let's have a little fun. Five was assigned to a win, and zero was assigned to a loss. The sixteen games were coded, and bye week was not counted. Here is the coded data: L= 0 W = 5             This Year Last Year   Week 0 0 same 1 5 5 same 2 0 0 same 3 0 0 same 4 5 0 better 5 0 5 worst 6 5 0 better 7 5 0 better 8 5 0 better 9 0 5 worst 10 0 0 same 11 5 5 same 12 0 0 same 13 5 5 same 14 0 0 same 15 5 0 better 16 Observations 1. Tom Cable is on the hot seat, and ESPN rumor-hound Adam Schefter is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will not pickup his option on January 18th.  Although Cable finished 8-8 this season, his tenure has been defined by disputes and indecision. Oakland Raiders coaching hunts are always interesting because, well, Al Davis is crazy.  I'm not suggesting Davis doesn't know how to find coaches, he's just unique in everything he does—including hires. The Al Davis coaching philosophy is fairly simple; he likes to find coaches without NFL head coaching experience because that means nobody has figured them out yet.  This results in ...
What an end to a decent year for the Oakland Raiders. Defeating the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday (31-10) gave the Raiders yet another stat for their book: They became the first team ever to sweep their division, go 6-0 in the AFC West and not make the playoffs.  The Raiders handed the Chiefs their final loss of the regular season. Easily. The Raiders defense completely owned the Chiefs offensive line, who gave up seven sacks on Cassel alone. But enough of the Chiefs. What do the Raiders need to do for the next season?   Upgrade the O-Line One ...
This year's season was a big step in the right direction for the Oakland Raiders.  They finally got rid of some dead weight (Javon Walker and JaMarcus Russell), had a smart draft and just made solid moves in the offseason.  Before the season started, Raiders fans had a lot to be hopeful about, and now that the season is over, we have a lot to be excited about.   Let's start with the differences between last year and this year.  The most noticeable was the loss of 300 pounds of dead weight: JaMarcus Russell was finally ousted from Oakland.  Many Raider ...
After a year in which a team went undefeated in their division yet missed the playoffs and another division was barely won by a team with seven wins (yes, seven wins), I would much rather seen an expansion of the postseason, rather than 18 games for every team. Instead, the NFL should add another Wild Card week in order to adapt to the increasing amount of parity in the NFL. I would even suggest that the additional wild card teams could be voted in by coaches, media and fans.  It might be too late to stop an 18 game schedule in the NFL, ...
On the strength of stellar performances by Michael Bush and the offensive line, the Oakland Raiders exposed Matt Cassel and the Kansas City Chiefs for what they really are—overrated. The game started out competitively, but in the end, the Chiefs had no answer for Raiders' defensive line—despite Oakland playing without Pro Bowler Richard Seymour. This game proved several things for the Raiders. It justified the trade for Jason Campbell, it highlighted that the Raider defense is greatly improved and it showed Raider Nation that there is reason for hope in the future. This game also did one of three things for the Chiefs...1.  ...
