Every year in Raider Nation Al Davis makes decisions that cause the average fan wonder, "what is he thinking?  Is he thinking at all?"Whether it's a questionable draft choice, (Darius Heyward-Bey and JaMarcus Russell come to mind) or the hiring of an inexperienced coach like Lane Kiffin, this is a recurring theme in Oakland. This off-season, Davis fired head coach Tom Cable after Cable gave the team their best season since 2002, the first sweep of the AFC West division in team history and the first non-losing season in nearly a decade. Some fans in Raider Nation are applauding this move, others ...
Every team in the NFL now has a head coach. The Oakland Raiders made the long-rumored move of promoting offensive coordinator Hue Jackson. This move had been reported by sources from the day the Raiders announced they would not be retaining Tom Cable. This move had also been speculated since Al Davis hired Jackson last offseason and brought him in to turn the offense around.Jackson did just that. The Raiders went from 31st in total offense in 2009 to 10th in 2010, and Jackson has been rewarded with his first head coaching opportunity. Here are some predictions about what his tenure will ...
I don't mean to go Lil Wayne on everyone, but Hue Jackson is so official all he needs is a whistle. The Oakland Raiders finally named Jackson their head coach. Nobody was really surprised by this move, as everyone expected Jackson to be named head coach since Tom Cable was fired. Jackson was the right guy for the Raiders. The fans and players were worried about continuity and having to bring in a whole new system, but promoting Jackson will make the transition a lot easier. Jackson is a very smart and intense person. A lot of people have great things to say ...
You can go to www.raiders.com and see it for yourself. Al Davis will announce his choice of head coach for the Oakland Raiders. The resume for Hue Jackson is outstanding. On this day, Jan. 17, 2011, so many of us are happy. By making a choice of a man who is qualified to do the job and who demonstrated his ability to move from theory to practice, the Oakland Raiders are headed in the right direction after all. Let's congratulate Davis for making what looks like a wise choice that will, hopefully, give the Oakland Raiders the consistency they need for 2011. The players, ...
According to NFL.com, Hue Jackson will officially become the new head coach of the Oakland Raiders in a news conference scheduled at 4:15 p.m. ET. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81dc062b/article/raiders-pick-jackson-to-be-coach-after-offenses-success?module=breaking_news This does not come as a surprise, but it is nice to get this out of the way and made official. Jackson, one could argue, was the single biggest difference maker for the Raiders in 2010. The Raiders improved dramatically on the offensive side of the ball with Jackson calling the plays. The 410 points the Raiders scored was more than double last season's point total. Darren McFadden, who was starting to be labeled a bust by many ...
The Oakland Raiders, as expected, have named Hue Jackson head coach. The team's website says he'll be formally introduced tomorrow, by owner Al Davis. The article also boasts how Hue improved the Raiders' offense, and even called him "dynamic". What's Al Davis' message? “The fire in Hue will set a flame that will burn for a long time in the hearts and minds of the Raider football team and the Raider Nation.” I love it, Al! This is great news for the Raider Nation and the squad itself. Jackson is a fiery man who knows how to fire up the team. He also knows ...
Raider Nation is in a mode of panic! We have a plethora of free agents, and no head coach! Al Davis has gone crazy! Slow down, Nation. You have Al Davis' personal guarantee that this Oakland Raiders team in the 2011-12 NFL season will crush all opponents and win the Super Bowl with a flawless 59-14 victory. Okay, not so much. Still, I know deep down that this is Oakland's year. Most free agents will re-sign with us. Some act like Nnamdi Asomugha will jump ship, and Richard Seymour will request a trade. That's not so. I was re-living the 2010 season today, and I came across ...
Oakland Athletics General Manager Billy Beane is still playing "Moneyball" to this day. The team that used to perennially contend for the playoffs finished just exactly .500 last season, and was nine games out of first place behind the American League champion Texas Rangers. Beane looks to compete more aggressively in 2011, as he has made quiet moves this offseason. For example, they signed Hideki Matsui to a one-year deal to be the permanent DH. Not only is Matsui a consistent .270, 20 home run hitter, he knows what it is to be a World Champion as he won it all with the Yankees ...
The Oakland Raiders are known as the undisputed most hated franchise in league history.Everyone hates a winner: period.Ignorant NFL fans laugh at the franchise of the Oakland Raiders.  They look at the last few years and mock.Fans that have seen the Raiders teams of the past wouldn't imagine mocking one of the most winning franchises in NFL history. They're winners of three Super Bowl titles.  That number could be a lot higher too.The Raiders don't practice the retirement of jerseys and for good reason: they may be starting to run low.I've put together two other top 50 greatest players' lists: one for ...
Back in the 1970s and 1980s the Raiders were associated with winning. They were not always liked, but they were always feared and respected. At the height of their powers, John Madden was head coach of the Raiders for 10 years between 1969 and 1978, posting a regular season record of 103-32-7 (0.763), the best ever in the NFL. He also coached the Raiders to Super Bowl victory following the 1976 season. John Madden always said he had the best owner in the league. He did not have to report to a general manager—he had a hot line directly to owner Al ...
