Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

Last August I wrote an article on Bleacher Report questioning Raiders' running back Darren McFadden's commitment to being a successful professional football player (read that story here). In that article I pointed out that many people were beginning to think that maybe it was time to put the 'bust' label on McFadden—due to his lack of production since coming to the Raiders after the 2008 NFL draft. I also mentioned how I follow several NFL players on Twitter and that McFadden was one of them. I said I thought what players say on Twitter was a very useful insight into ...
Jason Campbell is primed for a big year in Oakland. There are many young weapons around him, but there is always room for more. This isn't a mock draft, but it is a look at 10 NFL Draft prospects the Raiders could surround Campbell with. There will be plenty of talent available when the Raiders pick in the second round. Not only can the Raiders find some talent in the skill positions, but they could also use more depth along the offensive line.Let's take a look at 10 players the Raiders could surround Campbell with. Begin Slideshow
The Raiders are without a first round pick (due to the Richard Seymour trade), so they have to make every pick count. The Silver and Black are coming of the heels of their first quality draft in, seemingly, forever. Rolando McClain was solid at middle linebacker, racking up 85 tackles, while Lamarr Houston strengthened the middle of the defensive line with 39 tackles and five sacks. Left tackle Jared Veldheer was a very pleasant surprise. The rookie out of Hillside seems to be an offensive build block. Fourth round pick Jacoby Ford is an electrifying weapon at WR and in ...
We are less than three weeks away from the 2011 NFL Draft, and while we've focused greatly on who the Raiders may or may not draft, another importance to Raider Nation is who the other AFC West teams will draft. I am glad the Broncos drafted Tim Tebow last year because I have no idea how he will pan out in the NFL, and the indecision over him only weakens the Broncos. The problem this year is that without a first-round pick, the Raiders will be playing catch-up throughout the draft. The Broncos, Chiefs and Chargers all have needs to address through this ...
The 2011 NFL Draft continues to inch closer. Teams are preparing by bringing in prospects for visits and sorting out their draft boards. And the Oakland Raiders do so as the only team in the draft without a pick in the first-round. This, of course, leaves the possibility open that they will trade back up into the first-round. But is it worth it? They have mulitiple holes to fill, and this may not be the best time for them to sacrifice picks to go for just one player. The popular sentiment throughout the world of NFL Mock Drafts is that ...
Going back to 2003, the Oakland Raiders seem to have more misses than hits in the NFL draft, but they had a good class in 2010. Hue Jackson is in with Tom Cable out, so now there's a new perspective in house to look over the talent for 2011. So how will they follow up the 2010 draft in 2011? It's difficult to say because they don't have a first-round pick in 2011, but one thing is for sure: the Raiders are hard at work to put together another good draft class to add to an improving team. It took a good ...
The Oakland Raiders are a team that has constantly been bashed for having poor draft choices.  The most common example is JaMarcus "Skittles" Russell.  Russell was a player that the Raiders drafted in 2007, and I'll be the first to admit I was ecstatic about the pick.  The Raiders needed a quarterback, and who would you of suggested they take?  When all the draft "experts" start calling a rookie quarterback a "top five player" or the next John Elway of course we are going to be happy about drafting him.  Of course now we all know Russell is the biggest ...
Al Davis. The man who was a coach, then an AFL Commissioner, and became Chairman of the most lethal team in NFL history. Yes, the only team to have the greatest fan base in the NFL, the legendary Silver and Black, the Oakland Raiders. Mr. Davis has always loved the vertical game. Mr. Davis practically invented the "Bomb" and he definitely took advantage of its potential. In the early days of football, the teams were geared to a more rushing attack than anything else. Al Davis gets to coach the Oakland Raiders and with his speedy receivers, dominates the AFL. In 1967, when ...
Series Recap The offensive woes continued for the A's on Friday, as a single run failed to hold up in the 2-1 loss to the Twins. Brett Anderson cruised through 7.2 innings before being touched up for two runs in the bottom of the eighth. Despite similar offensive sputtering on Saturday, the A's found a way to beat the Twins 1-0. Gio Gonzalez pitched six strong, and Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes combined to pitch three shutout innings. The offense "exploded" in the Sunday finale as Hideki Matsui and Josh Willingham homered en route to a 5-3 win on the ...
Oakland's newcomers finally put it all together and the A's put together back-to-back wins, taking their first series of the season. David DeJesus, Josh Willingham and Hideki Matsui were acquired to give the Athletics an offensive boost to support their stellar starting pitching, and also to lift the A's from their 81-81 finish last season, into contention in the American League West. Brandon McCarthy was signed to compete for the fifth starter position in the rotation, a competition he won during spring training. Grant Balfour and Brian Fuentes were acquired to add depth to the Oakland bullpen and help nail down victories for ...
