According to FOX Sports’ Adam Caplan, Jacoby Ford could be headed for a bigger role in 2011. After speaking with Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson, Caplan came away with the thought that Ford could possibly be a break-out candidate in 2011.Per Caplan, Jackson said, “Ford can be as good as any receiver in the league,” and we have to agree with him. However, his actual role and the fact that the Raiders still don’t have an elite quarterback still slightly curbs his fantasy value. What we do know, however, is that Ford was a dynamite return man in his rookie season, putting ...
To say the opening series did not go as planned for the Oakland Athletics would be an understatement. The team's defense was atrocious, as evidenced by the seven total errors committed against the Mariners, five on opening night. The bullpen was not capable of holding leads, costing the Athletics what could have been wins in the first two games. The offense only squeaked out a total of four runs in the first two games, not enough to support the solid pitching performances by the A's starting pitching staff. Thankfully, the A's solved two of their problems in Sunday's finale. The ...
Pure adrenaline and excitement! That sentence describes the Oakland Raiders newest weapon on defense. The Raiders rookie MLB Rolando McClain was a thrill to watch everytime he set cleat to turf. Rolando McClain became a fan favorite after he suplexed St. Louis WR Danny Amendola. I am talking Rolando McClain literally lifted Amendola and slammed him on his back. Punishment. It's been a long time since the Raiders had defensive punisher like Rolando McClain. In his rookie season, Rolando McClain had 85 tackles. This placed him third overall in tackles for the Raiders, putting himself behind Tyvon Branch (104 tackles)) and Michael ...
The Oakland Raiders finished 8-8 in 2010 and everyone in the organization feels that they are ready to make the playoffs in 2011. The Raiders went undefeated in their division last season and that is a major key in making the playoffs. If you can win games within your division then you have a chance to make the playoffs. Unfortunately the Raiders had issues beating teams outside of their division. In 2011 the AFC West will face the AFC East and the NFC North. Nobody in the division will have an easy road to the playoffs. It appears that the ...
A few days ago I said that I would visit the location in Washington, DC where the NFL was holding its negotiations. I entered the building at 2100 K Street and was greeted by a security guard. I asked the gentleman about the NFL negotiations that were held in the building. He said that they could not come to an agreement and that they were not at this location. I asked if I could take pictures in the lobby and he said "no" because it was a federal building. I asked if I could take pictures outside of the building and he said ...
It is a new year for the A's, but let's hope their first series against the Mariners was not an accurate preview of what to expect in the coming year. The A's did not perform well in Friday's and Saturday's games losing 6-2 and 5-2, respectively. Sunday's game showed a bit of a bounce back as A's managed a 7-1 victory on a day where the sun greatly aided the A's cause. Luckily, the season is still young with 159 games still ahead. It is difficult to tell what can truly be taken from the first three games of season, but let's try ...
The Oakland Raiders already have their 2011 NFL Draft first-round pick, and they just signed him to a big contract. His name is Richard Seymour. Just because the Raiders do not have a first-round selection, it does not mean this is not an important draft for the silver and black. Most notably, they have holes in the offensive line and defensive backfield, and they have a pick in each round that doesn't start with the No. 1 to fill them. I'll be right here from now until the start of the draft updating all the Raiders news and rumors while ...
Oakland Raiders wide receiver Louis Murphy was arrested in Gainesville, Fla. on Sunday. Police tried to pull him over for noise pollution coming from his SUV, but Murphy refused and was arrested for resisting arrest. In addition to that charge, the third year receiver was arrested for drug possession without a valid prescription for carrying Viagra. When asked about the bottle's missing label, Murphy responded, "He did not want his girlfriend to know he had a prescription for it." Well Murphy, not only does your girlfriend know of your dysfunction; so does the Raider Nation. Congratulations on representing yourself, your family, the Raider organization, your ...
After the previous seven years of futility, 2010 was a year that showed the Raiders just might turning the corner. They finished the season at 8-8 and seemed to be only two plays away from a 10-6 record and the playoffs. A third play could have had the Raiders at 11-5. The Raiders got some break through performances in 2010 by players they had big hopes for. They also got some solid performances by young players while there were other players that were slowed by injuries.   2011 is a year of big hopes for the Raiders coming off a .500 season with a bunch ...
2010 Oakland Raider Defense Stats: Points given up per game: 23.2 (20th) Yards given up per game: 322.8 (11th) Pass Yards given up per game: 189.2 (2nd) Rushing Yards given up per game: 133.6 (29th)   Based on the 2010 stats, Oakland Raiders defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan will have his hands filled improving a run defense that lagged near the bottom of the barrel in 2010. But he will have to do with without Nnamdi and Michael Huff and without compromising a pass defense that was ranked in the top 10. Oakland will be forced to blitz a bit more in 2011. Without a ...
