The Oakland Raiders took a step forward in 2010, with their first non-losing season since 2002.  They still have a ways to go before they can contend for the Lombardi trophy, but with a solid draft in a few weeks, they could possibly contend for the AFC West title. However, the lack of a franchise quarterback could hinder their quest for their first winning season since 2002. Jason Campbell should enter the 2011 season as the starting quarterback for next year, but I’m not sure if he is the long-term solution.  The Raiders will most likely miss out on the top ...
The A's need to learn that a baseball game is traditionally nine innings, not ten. That didn't seem to matter to the green and gold on the South Side, as the A's managed to steal two out of three games, that all needed extras to be resolved.Game one featured dominating pitching performances by Dallas Braden and Mark Buehrle. It appeared the A's would go down 1-0 without a fight, but an Andy LaRoche double and Juan Pierre error pushed across a ninth inning run and gave the A's a chance in the tenth.Kurt Suzuki then launched his first home run of ...
Today was a special day. I remembered the struggles of the earlier generatioin of Oakland Raiders who did not attain a level of financial success after their NFL careers. Sometimes, the younger generation does not know, nor feel the pain of an earlier generation. I, however, believe that there is a continuum in history. What earlier generations accomplished, in my opinion, helps to build or strengthen the foundation for future generations. We are connected. So, when great men like George Blanda, Jack Tatum and many others made history, the history sets in place an expectation and standard for future generations of Oakland Raiders. In ...
Nov 3, 2014- Yesterday, in their final game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, the Oakland Athletics (soon to be known as the San Jose Athletics) went out with a bang, winning the World Series against their cross-Bay rivals, the San Francisco Giants in a convincing four game sweep. Outfielder Michael Choice was selected as the World Series MVP. Choice went 7-16 in the series with 2 Home Runs, including the go-ahead blast in the 11th inning of Game 1, and 3 Stolen bases. After finishing the 2013 season on top of the AL West, the A's failed to advance past the ...
As the countdown to draft day continues, many in Raider Nation are wondering who their team is targeting. While only a few players have been named that have scheduled workouts with the Raiders, that should not be a cause for concern. Each year, Oakland is very secretive when it comes to who they're looking at, and for good reason. It's a nice strategy, but very frustrating for fans as they have no idea what direction the team is looking to go.However, we have a pretty good idea as to where the Raiders will be focusing on in the draft: Offensive and defensive ...
Some reports say that more than 150,000 jobs in NFL-related activities and businesses are in jeopardy. Some towns thrive on the action and activity of NFL football. The Oakland Raiders are a positive factor in the economy of the city of Oakland. Overall, the economy is struggling, and the NFL lockout is another factor that is stimulating something, either positive or negative. While people in the community may be hurt by the lockout, there are some good things that can come out of the negotiations for NFL teams. The process of negotiating needs to be expedited. If the lockout lasts too long, the ...
It seems every season a small-to-mid market team emerges and makes some noise in the division races, posing a significant threat to the investments that "big market" clubs such as the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox and Philadelphia Phillies make on annual payrolls. The Tampa Rays finished 2010 with the best record in the American League at 96-66, despite a payroll only a fraction of that of their division rivals. Competing in a division where the Red Sox and Yankees were expected to win both the division and wild card, the Rays were a surprise postseason participant. The San Diego Padres ...
The senior Oakland Raider, Jim Otto walked down a baseball field just a few days ago. It was good to see the video of him walking across the field with a little strut to his step. One day I realized that not only was Otto's name unique, his career was impressive. Granted if you read Otto's name, from left to right, it spells Otto. Also, from right to left, it still spells Otto. When you look at his name in a reflection in a mirror, it still spells Otto. If you flip Otto's name with respect tot the x-axis, it still spells Otto. If you flip ...
In 2007, former Oakland Raider’s Punter Ray Guy told the Oakland Tribune, “To this day, that’s the thing I get asked about the most.” Can you guess what that one thing is? Maybe being the first and only pure punter selected in the first round of the NFL draft in 1973? Nope. His experience at the Super Bowl, in which he was a participant three times? Negative. How about his seven Pro Bowl appearances? You’re getting hotter. In 1976, Ray Guy, who was representing the AFC in the Pro Bowl at the Louisiana Superdome, punted a ball into the scoreboard, and that’s the thing ...
When NFL business begins for the 2011 season, the Oakland Raiders have holes to fill. The Raiders could lose Nnamdi Asomugha, Robert Gallery, Michael Huff, Langston Walker and Khalif Barnes to free agency. There is still a slight possibility that Asomugha could return upon the start of league business. The offensive line needs improvement. The Raiders are without a first-round pick, but are still able to add two of the top 100 players to their roster. Round 2: Cornerback Ras-I-Dowling—6’1” 199 poundsDowling is a team captain who has displayed great character, an experienced corner rarely caught out of position, even against ...
