The Oakland A’s might stink on the field, but off the field, the A’s are two-for-two playing the unluckiest game there is—Dr. James Andrews Poker.More often than not, when a pitcher sits down at the poker table with Dr. James Andrews, Andrews is always holding a pair of aces. On the river, he hits another ace. The pitcher is toast. The cost of losing a hand of poker to Dr. James Andrews? Tommy John surgery and 15 to 18 months of your career. But the A’s have played poker with Andrews twice this year and both times have come away ...
Oakland Raider head coach Hue Jackson has constantly spoken of "building a bully" this offseason. The main philosophy of owner Al Davis is, "While other offenses take what the defense gives them, we just take what we want." It sounds like the philosophy of the head coach and the owner are right in line with each other. The personnel in Oakland seems to be getting close matching the philosophy of the coach and owner. So how close are they? Well, the last "bully" the Raiders truly had was the 1983 team that won the Super Bowl. So I will now do a player comparison ...
Rich Harden's return to the Oakland A's has not gone exactly as planned.Perhaps it has gone as should have been expected, given Harden's past injury history, but certainly not the way the A's envisioned when they inked the righty to a one-year $1.5 million contract this offseason.Midway into June and Harden has not not thrown a live pitch in a single game, not even a single rehabilitation start. Yet he is newsworthy as Oakland stumbles home after a 1-9 road trip. The A's lost another starter on the road trip. Brett Anderson left the team after his start against Boston to ...
Well, the A's ended their losing streak. Not easily, mind you. They've started again, this time with a minuscule two-gamer. But don't worry, this one's got potential.Apologies for the doomer outlook, but things don't look great for the green and gold.Pitching. That thing that's kept the A's afloat through thick and thin is waning and the minors are drained.Graham Godfrey got the opportunity to make his big league debut, and while he wasn't great, he was about the same as the rest of the starters this month. The A's are 1-10 in June and the starters haven't been up to par. ...
Two years ago, while the Oakland Athletics ownership team of Lewis Wolff and John Fisher failed to gain approval for a brand new stadium in Fremont, CA, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig took the bold and aggressive step of creating a committee with the purpose of finding a place for the Oakland A's to build their new stadium. At the time Selig announced this new task force, he stated that this would be the way to bring the A's into the 21st century with a state-of-the-art ballpark to replace the old and depressing Overstock.com Coliseum (known by many A's fans as "the ...
The 2011 Oakland Raiders are primed for a solid season. New head coach Hue Jackson looks like a star in the making and quarterback Jason Campbell is ready for the best year of his career.Campbell may have the most talented offensive unit he's ever played with in 2011. If it's not the most talented, you know it has to be the fastest. The Raiders are loaded with young talent on the offensive side of the ball and they have a great offensive-minded coach who knows how to get the most out of his players.Let's take a look at the Raiders top ...
Part one of two.On April 29th, 2006, the Oakland Raiders selected safety/cornerback Michael Huff with the seventh overall selection in the 2006 NFL Draft. In 2010-2011, four years later, he finally reached his potential as a defensive back in the NFL.Coincidentally, this was the year that he would become a free agent. Now, many teams are clawing at the All-Pro defender, including hometown team Dallas Cowboys. With the Raiders breaking the bank for free agents like Richard Seymour, Stanford Routt and Kamerion Wimbley (among others), many are asking whether or not Huff fits into their plans. The fact that Oakland gave backup free ...
It's hard to still consider the Oakland A's contenders in 2011.In the midst of a 1-9 road trip, and losers of 10 of the past 11 games, the A's certainly don't have the look of a team that knows how to win. They have suffered injuries to four starting pitchers, their starting second baseman and they have outrighted their starting third baseman to triple-A. The team leads the American league in errors and the top strength, their starting pitching, has begun to crack under the pressure of having win one- to two-run ballgames. The offense ranks at the bottom of the American League. All ...
It may not surprise you that the old saying is true in many instances: the fruit does not fall far from the tree. Well, after doing a little research, it was discovered that there are many NFL families, and the focus in this article is to list those who have played for the Oakland Raiders. Here is a list for you to peruse. How many of these guys do you remember? Stefen Wisniewski is at the top of the list because he is a member of the current Oakland Raiders roster, and his father and uncle have influenced him. 61 Wisniewski, Stefen C 6-3 315 22 R Penn State       ADAMS     Sam, Sr. G 1972-80 ...
The Oakland Raiders are considered one of the greatest sports organizations in the history of the United States.  The Raiders hold the fourth-best winning percentage of all time in the National Football League at 400-313-11 (.560). To move this storied franchise away from their home would be a travesty.  Not only do the Oakland Raiders love Oakland, but the city of Oakland also loves the Raiders. It would be terrible to make this horrible move to L.A. for the second time.  All of Raiders history was made in Oakland and that is where the organization should stay.Begin Slideshow
