On Thursday, the baseball world learned of the passing of one of its greatest managers in history—Hall of Famer Dick Williams. Williams is best remembered for turning the Oakland Athletics into World Series champions in 1972 and 1973; however, he is also known for being at the helm of quick turnarounds with other teams as well—the Boston Red Sox in 1967 and the San Diego Padres in 1984. Williams also managed in three other cities before being elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee in 2008. Bleacher Report will take a look at the life of Dick ...

I've heard enough from some so called Raider Fans!
They say that Oakland Raider owner Al Davis needs to hurry up and die so the Raiders can start winning. Maybe they just need to get a life so Davis can get on with running the franchise he built to our liking.
Davis has recently endured the roughest seven year stretch in the history of his franchise. But name a franchise doesn't go through tough times with losing seasons.
Davis has spoiled Raider fans with all the winning the Raiders have done over the decades. So now people say that "he's lost it" when he goes through the same ...
The Rich Eisen is admittedly wasting time with an entertaining but redundant seven-minute segment of detailed analysis on Mark Sanchez's sandwich preferences, you know material is a little thin. The growing popularity of sports writing sites such as B/R has given everyone with an opinion, two fingers and a keyboard a forum to voice their thoughts. Since most people—myself heavily included— think their thoughts are profound and need to be shared, the Internet sports writing niche has exploded. Couple a zillion new writers with a lack of new, fresh material to write about and nary a stone has been left unturned when ...
Texas football is represented very well on the Oakland Raiders team. Approximately 9.2 percent of the roster is composed of players from Texas colleges and universities. The list includes senior players such as Johnnie Lee Higgins, from the University of Texas, El Paso. Another five-year veteran is Thomas Howard, a linebacker, who is also from UTEP. Michael Huff has five years of experience with the Raiders as a DB. He played for University of Texas, in Austin. Lamarr Houston played for the Longhorns as well. For 11 years, Shane Lechler has been a Raider, and he attended Texas A & M University. He ...
For more Raiders news and notes, please visit Raiders Post.During this NFL Lockout, the Raider Nation has discussed a wide range of topics, including things like coaching and quarterback play. One major topic, however, has been wide receiver play. Or lack thereof, for that matter. The one thing Raider fans can agree on is that the receivers need to step up their game in order for the offense to take that next stride towards being elite.Everyone agrees that this will be a big year for Jacoby Ford. That Darrius Heyward-Bey needs to prove he's not a bust. That Chaz Schilens must stay ...
I absolutely hated the catch phrase of the 2010 San Francisco Giants season: "torture."I could not wrap my mind around the notion that watching a baseball game could ever be "torture." Close games, fought down to the wire, make for excitement. It is baseball at its best. When you take into consideration all of the other events of our daily lives, a baseball game hardly seemed worthy of the term "torture."I've altered my stance on this now though. The 2011 Oakland Athletics have proven that watching a baseball team can be "torture" after all. I would still choose watching this ball ...
There can be good players and bad players. Bad players are the "busts." Now, if the head coach is like a shepherd who tends, nurtures and guides "good sheep" or good players, then the other guys who don't function very well are "the goats."In 2010, we had a goat for a while. Are any of the players going to be "busts" or "goats" in 2011 because their learning curve is warped? Now you may ask, "What can cause the career of an Oakland Raiders player to get 'bent out of shape' or 'warped?'"Drugs, women, failing to learn the playbook, poor relations ...
One thing that has always baffled me about MLB management is when a team sends a player to the minors after he performs well for them. You see it most often with pitchers, especially younger ones. For example, a team may need a spot starter for a doubleheader, so they call up one of their young pitchers from the minors. This pitcher could then throw a shutout, but since he's not part of the team's current plans, he'll be immediately sent back down to the minors. It's almost as if the start he just made did not matter. If a ...
