Although it is not a sexy move, re-signing Michael Bush was a necessary one for the Raiders. It was announced on Saturday that Bush had signed his tendered agreement with the Raiders and reported to training camp.At this time it is unknown if the contract was for a single season or three seasons, but Bush will be a Raider in 2011.The return of Bush coupled with the speedy recovery of Darren McFadden from a fractured orbital bone will, by the beginning of the season, give the Raiders one of the top rushing tandems in the NFL.Though the Raiders are a bit ...
Zach Miller has decided to follow the money and Tom Cable to Seattle to play for the Seahawks. Raider Nation has been in upheaval ever since but should be happy that Kevin Boss is now a Raider in his stead.I've heard some in Raider Nation say, "There's no replacing Miller." but that is not the case. Miller was valuable to the offense, no doubt, but that's more less because of a bad receiver situation and that's no longer the case. The truth is Miller is a solid tight end but he isn't special and the Raiders are better off with Boss. Turn ...
The Oakland Raiders have lost more than their fair share of talent this offseason, but they’re finally starting to make some positive moves. The re-signing of OLB Kamerion Wimbley (coming off a nine-sack campaign) has been followed up today with the addition of former Giant Kevin Boss. Wimbley’s pass-rush presence will be crucial to a defense that suddenly needs to protect rather than rely on a secondary that will be without superstar Nnamdi Asomugha. Whether Oakland overpaid for Wimbley’s services is a question worth asking, but on the field, he’ll make the Raiders glad they retained him. Boss, meanwhile, will ...
The new CBA has left some teams, like the Oakland Raiders, in a terrible salary cap predicament. While teams recognize that they need to stay beneath the salary cap, they cannot help but try to improve the team as much as possible, and often end up several million dollars above the maximum payroll. Here are the five teams with the worst salary cap situations less than a day away from the cap deadline.Begin Slideshow
According to ESPN, the Oakland Raiders have come to terms with New York Giants tight end Kevin Boss on a four-year, $16 million deal. Excellent news considering he will replace Pro Bowl tight end Zach Miller, who stung the Raiders by signing with the Seattle Seahawks. Kevin Boss is a superior blocking TE and was underused in the passing game for the Giants. But more than just a TE, Kevin Boss is a terrific role model. Have a look at this article written by Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News on November 26, 2008. I think Raider Nation ...
The Oakland Raiders have signed tight end Kevin Boss, formerly of the New York Giants, to a four-year, $16 million contract. The move is in response to Zach Miller signing a five-year, $34 million deal with the Seattle Seahawks on Tuesday. Boss caught 119 passes for 1,600 yards and 18 touchdowns in four seasons with the Giants as he gradually took over the role from Jeremy Shockey. However, his best contributions for the Giants came in the form of tremendous blocking. While Boss doesn't have the same route-running skills or high ceiling as Miller, his arrival will undoubtedly help Darren ...
The Raiders haven't been the most active team in this post-lockout NFL season, but they have made a few quality moves to shore up deficiencies.Zach Miller and Nnamdi Asomugha have already departed, and if I was graded those "moves" or lack there of they wouldn't both be F's. Miller would, but Asomugha would be in the B range, because he was too expensive to keep.I've focused on five signings or re-signings the Raiders have made over the past few weeks.Begin Slideshow
Josh Willingham started the year hitting .231 with 27 runs, 10 home runs and four stolen bases through June. Not great numbers, but he salvaged his value by collecting 42 RBI.He’s struggling again this month, hitting .154 with one home run and three RBI in 13 at-bats. It was his July, though, that gives me hope. Willingham batted .324 for the month of July with 13 runs, five home runs and 16 RBI. His 1.047 OPS was off the charts.Considering that value hadn’t reached .800 in any other month this year, you know he was raking. His hot start to the ...
Have you seen that show “Hoarders”?  It’s quickly becoming one of my favorites. The formula is the same for each episode: they show you someone’s house that’s become overrun with trash, food, or really anything. Then, after much drama, you get to see them re-capture their lives by trashing-out their houses.  The process helps the people re-claim their lives, and it’s always satisfying to see them happier at the end than they were at the beginning, even though the process itself can be a tough experience.  The program shows us that sometimes you get to a point in life where ...
As of right now the Raiders have lost three starters from last season.  Nnamdi Asomugha, Zach Miller and Robert Gallery all signed with other teams because the Raiders didn't have the cap room to get them the deal they were looking for.  Before the lockout the Raiders locked up a few players with some huge salaries.  Even before the lockout during the last few offseasons the Raiders have been re-signing guys to deals that would eventually put them in the situation they are in right now. Here are a few guys that should be willing to restructure their deals so that ...
