Reggie McKenzie wasted no time getting acclimated to his new role as general manager of the Oakland Raiders, swiftly making a decision to fire coach Hue Jackson after finishing 8-8 in his first season, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Many will call the move controversial, especially given the progress of the offense during the past two years under Jackson's guidance. Ultimately, this was the right move for the organization after Coach Jackson made several critical errors during the final stretch of the season in which the Raiders failed to make the playoffs for the ninth straight year, which is the ...
Despite having the Oakland Raiders in contention for a playoff spot in the NFL's final week, Hue Jackson was fired as head coach after only one season.Jackson, who led the Raiders to an 8-8 mark in 2011, was let go by new GM Reggie McKenzie, just four days after McKenzie was announced in his new role.McKenzie joins the Raiders after spending the past 17 seasons in Green Bay’s front office, most recently as their Director of Football Operations. The move comes at an interesting time for McKenzie, who is undoubtedly trying to make his mark in his new role. The general ...
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders fired first-year head coach Hue Jackson on Tuesday. Here's Schefter's tweet reporting the firing:The move came just days after the Raiders hired former Packers front-office man Reggie McKenzie to be their new general manager. It didn't take long for McKenzie to make the decision to axe Jackson, who went 8-8 in his first season, from the head coaching position. With Jackson on the way out, who might McKenzie bring in to replace him? We'll start with Packers inside linebackers coach and assistant head coach Winston Moss. He has long been rumored as a coaching candidate ...
Reggie McKenzie announced his presence with authority in his first act as the Raiders GM by rendering Hue Jackson "one and done" as coach of the Oakland Raiders. The fact that both Jackson and McKenzie have the same agent apparently wasn't enough to save Jackson, whose Raiders stumbled to the finish line, losing four of their final five games and missing the playoffs yet again. In fairness to Jackson, he may have deserved a better fate. Injuries to Jason Campbell, Darren McFadden and numerous others left Jackson scrambling all season to put the right lineup on the field to keep ...
It didn’t take very long for brand spankin’ new GM Reggie McKenzie to make a positive impact with the Oakland Raiders. Just hours after taking over the reins, McKenzie fired head coach Hue Jackson as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter. While he did register a passionate speech or two (allowing too much access to media cameras), I think most Raider fans would agree Jackson was not the answer. Going 8-8 is a step in the wrong direction regardless of the injuries he dealt with. Oakland blew a golden opportunity to win a weak AFC West. Replacing Jason Campbell with ...
Green Bay Packers linebackers coach Winston Moss is a defensive-minded coach. And that's all you need to know concerning whether he would be a good hire for the Oakland Raiders as head coach. After Hue Jackson was fired on Tuesday after one season with the Raiders, the team is looking for the next man in charge in what has been somewhat of a revolving door throughout the years.Moss not only has experience as a defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in the NFL, he was a former Raiders linebacker himself from 1991 to 1994 and he was one of few men who wanted ...
The Oakland Raiders have a new general manager in Reggie McKenzie, and he made it abundantly clear on Tuesday that he's not messing around.Via ESPN's Adam Schefter, here's the latest news:Roughly a year after he first got the job, Hue Jackson has gotten the axe. The Raiders will now be on the lookout for a new head coach. In other words: new GM, same old Raiders.I don't fault McKenzie for firing Jackson. He went 8-8 in his one and only season at the helm, and the Silver and Black spent the bulk of the season playing sloppy, undisciplined football. Jackson also ...
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Oakland Raiders fired head coach Hue Jackson Tuesday. The move marks the first change after the hiring of new GM Reggie McKenzie, who came over from the Green Bay Packers organization last week. While there will certainly be those who cry foul for Jackson, McKenzie made the right decision. Here are three reasons the firing of Jackson was the right call.  Begin Slideshow
It was reported on Tuesday afternoon, by none other than ESPN's Adam Schefter of course, that Oakland Raiders head coach Hue Jackson was relieved of his coaching duties. The Oakland Raiders finished this past season 8-8, losing their final game to the San Diego Chargers and thereby, missing the playoffs. This firing, while not justified, should come as no surprise to anyone. The Raiders have long been one of the most fickle and impatient franchises in the NFL, and the question must now be asked: is all this volatility keeping their franchise from success?Obviously, the goal of any NFL franchise is ...
The Oakland A's and GM Billy Beane did their normal offseason sell-off to get ready for a championship run in 2012.  Part of that sell-off was trading away former ROY closer Andrew Bailey to the Boston Red Sox.  That now leaves the A's with filling the closer role with someone on their roster or by signing a player. The possible current roster pitchers that could close are: Joey Devine, Brian Fuentes, Jordan Norberto, Neil Wagner. Going into spring training I see Brain Fuentes getting the best chance to close and likely open the season as the closer.  That is assuming the A's ...
