There is a simple model to identify areas for improvement. I agree I am using limited indicators but here is what I see:1. In 2011, the performance of the Oakland Raiders did not change when you look at the performance of the team after Bye week. For several years now, the team has lost the game immediately after Bye week.2. The performance of the Oakland Raiders did not change significantly, so we still see what I call a "yo-yo" pattern in the win-loss data. This, to me, is an indication of inconsistency. It is also an indication, I believe, of ...
The atmosphere was bigger than ever at the O.co Coliseum and the Oakland Raiders failed to respond to the electrifying vibe by falling to the San Diego Chargers 38-26. Raiders head coach Hue Jackson's frustrations reached a high point and he was no longer willing to be a shield for the disappointing performances by the players, coaches and organization. He made it crystal clear that he was "pissed" and vowed to assume a “stronger hand” in all the team’s decisions going forward. “To say I’m pissed is an understatement! Obviously we got beat here at home and didn’t look ...

Yet, Raider Nation finds itself in an all too familiar situation. With a 38-26 loss to San Diego, the Raiders' season is over. As it has been for the past nine years, Raiders fans are forced to look towards 2012. The Oakland Raiders tweeted their 2012 home and away opponents. Take a look at them below: Raiders 2012 Home OpponentsDenver Broncos, Kansas City Chiefs, San Diego Chargers, Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Raiders ...
Culture is a buzzword in corporate America. In organizational terms, it’s defined as “a learned set of behaviors that is common knowledge to all the participants.” In the dictionary, it’s defined as “the customs, arts, social institutions and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.”In Oakland, the culture of the Raiders organization has been dominated and defined by one man: Al Davis. The Raiders entire identity was a reflection of him and his personality. Outlaws, renegades, outcasts, mavericks and underdogs. There was no end to the “mystique” Davis cultivated about his team. That mystique served them well in ...
Whenever a team's season finishes after Week 17 the fans and organization alike look for signs of progress from the last year.  Hue Jackson, Amy Trask and Mark Davis are all very likely in that process right now in the team's Alameda headquarters.  The first place to look for improvement is the win-loss record, which did not change in Oakland. However, much like the playoff picture, there are many other factors to consider as the tiebreakers when records are the same. The Raiders of 2010 didn't have to deal with a season ending injury to their starting quarterback, the death of ...

The Oakland Raiders concluded their 2011 season with a loss to the San Diego Chargers Sunday in Oakland, eliminating them from participating in the playoffs for the ninth straight year. It was a campaign that started with so much hope, and a wild roller coaster ride of ups and downs finally ended with a disappointing loss at home to a team that had very little to play for. Looking back on the last several months of Raiders football, only one phrase comes to mind: missed opportunities. There are several reasons why the Raiders failed to qualify for the postseason, and ...
Disgusting. Despicable. Deplorable. Dimwitted. But enough about Chuck Bresnahan. I am absolutely sick over the Raiders’ performance today. Calling it unforgivable is putting it lightly. You entered the day needing a lot of help to make the postseason, and Houston and New York decided not to do their part. Most of your scenarios were squashed before kickoff: It came down to Oakland and Denver. Tim Tebow even got the ball back with a chance to win the game during “Tebow Time,” but the Chiefs shut him down. All you had to do was win. So what did you do? You showed ...
At this point, any slight advantage the Oakland Raiders can get they’ll take with open arms.  In a must-win game against the San Diego Chargers, Oakland is already in playoff mode.  The odds that the Raiders will be able to knock off their division rival and earn a postseason berth have skyrocketed with the latest breaking news. According to RotoWorld, San Diego starting halfback Ryan Mathews is inactive for their game against the Raiders.  Oakland’s defense is one of the worst in the NFL so Mathews’ inability to play in Week 17 is a huge plus.  Mike Tolbert is no ...
