Sometimes the only way to improve is to look back on what you have done, figure out what went wrong and learn from the experience. While the Raiders fell short of their goals, it was one of the most memorable seasons in franchise history. Let's take a look at the most significant moments of the 2011-12 Oakland Raiders season. Begin Slideshow
Late last year, "Moneyball" opened to widespread success, both critically and financially. Satisfying more than just baseball fans, it went on to garner six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor (Brad Pitt) and Best Supporting Actor (Jonah Hill).Like the A's organization itself, the film is an underdog.  Having struck out completely at the Golden Globes and the SAG Awards, it's looking as though its chances for success come Oscar night are slim. Can "Moneyball" follow in the footsteps of Oscar winning sports films like "Million Dollar Baby" and "The Fighter", or will it, like the 2002 Oakland A's team, ...
Circle your calendars, A’s fans. Playoffs in 2020. In extending the contracts of General Manager Billy Beane and President Michael Crowley, the Oakland Athletics have opted to continue their rebuilding process for the remainder of this decade. In an interview with Bloomberg Television, A’s owner Lew Wolff announced today that the team has agreed to terms with both Beane and Crowley—each are minority team owners—to remain with the team through 2019. Beane has been Oakland’s GM since 1997; Crowley joined the organization one year later. Both Beane and Crowley are obviously firmly entrenched in the construction and direction of the ...
Though Oakland is having trouble filling seats and keeping stars, there's still reason to remain loyal to the A's. In 2011, Oakland averaged an attendance of 18, 232 per game. That number earned the franchise last place in attendance numbers. The $66 million payroll was the 10th lowest in Major League Baseball. Attendance is terrible. It's hard to keep track of the players with such constant turnover. No one knows if they're staying or going. The midseason heartbreak of watching fan-favorites traded to contenders has become a yearly guarantee. So, why on Earth would you continue to root for this ...
As the Super Bowl ends, football fans get ready for the offseason. Thirty-one other teams are looking forward to making key transitions into improving their football team and making a run for a championship in 2012.Now that the Super Bowl is over, it's NFL draft season.Mock drafts and possible blockbuster trades are what entertain football fans from here on out. A team that is going to have an interesting draft strategy is the Oakland Raiders. While trading the majority of their 2012 draft picks, the Raiders currently only hold two legitimate picks in the fifth and sixth rounds. As far as ...
The first offseason without the presence of legendary owner Al Davis will prove to be the most intriguing one in decades for the Oakland Raiders.Reggie McKenzie takes over as the main football executive and has already been working to shape the Raiders into his team. McKenzie started with the head coach and has been interviewing and evaluating his front office staff and scouting department over the past few weeks.Raiders fans are accustomed to coaching change, but front office and roster changes have always been subtle from year to year. Al Davis was the final decision-maker for the Raiders and he would slowly sour on ...
ForewordWhen I was a child, there was a reader titled, "Look and See, Dick and Jane." I thought it was a redundant title. Later, I learned the true definition of "look" and "see." Now I know that we can look at things in life without really discerning the deeper meaning of those words, events and episodes. Here is an article that, hopefully, will help us to look at Oakland Raiders' Dave Dalby and to "see" what the impact of having three Super Bowl rings can mean to some of us in 2012. The ArticleSome NFL players are yearning to get one Super ...
CHAMPIONSHIP! Next in our “Sh*t __ Say” series…another look into the lives of Oakland Athletics fans. Because it really does not matter how many of these videos you have already seen. Sometimes it’s fun to look past a team’s flaws and just have a good time joking around. Some of these will never happen at any point during the life of an A’s fan. Other quotes may just not be a part of the conversation for the next year…or two. Once again, Fan Fest in Oakland gave a great glimpse of the Athletics’ fan base. Solid bunch. Without further ado, ...
“Should we go see a Rivercats game to see what the team is going to look like next year?” You've seen plenty of the videos. Whether you love them or hate them, they’re everywhere. Still, in spite of all the viral spin offs circulating around the Internet, there are very few that depict the lives of sports fans. This is where we come in. What is it like to be a lifelong A’s fan? Well through the past few years, it hasn’t been that easy. Still, there are still plenty of Oakland faithful that show up to the games. Even more ...
It would be easy to ignore the draft because the Oakland Raiders have just a fifth- and sixth-round selection, but that would be a mistake. While the Raiders own only two of its original seven draft picks, there is a new sheriff in town and his name is Reggie McKenzie. For decades the Raiders draft room was run by owner Al Davis, but all that changes this April. McKenzie, Oakland's general manager, doesn't have many picks to work and he'll explore every opportunity to gain a few more. If McKenzie doesn't find a player particularly useful or valuable, expect him to ...
