The Autumn wind is a pirateBlustering in from seaWith a rollicking song he sweeps alongSwaggering boisterously. His face is weatherbeatenHe wears a hooded sashWith a silver hat about his headAnd a bristling black mustacheHe growls as he storms the countryA villain big and boldAnd the trees all shake and quiver and quakeAs he robs them of their gold. The Autumn wind is a RaiderPillaging just for funHe'll knock you 'round and upside downAnd laugh when he's conquered and won. Well, the Autumn Wind has been fairly still since the Raiders last Super Bowl appearance. Veterans Rich Gannon, Rod Woodson, Trace Armstrong, Bill Romanowski ...
The craze of the free-agent frenzy has died down in recent days, with the only big-name player still on the market being Peyton Manning. The Raiders made their only two moves on Friday, but still have holes to fill. With few draft picks, their actions are limited. However, they still have a manageable amount of salary space that they can use to pick up some cheap players to fill those holes.  I've come up with a list of players who have a good amount of experience in the NFL, but can be had for a reasonable price.  Begin Slideshow
Remembering the words of a song, "The more I seek you, the more I love you" inspire words for the Oakland Raiders, which could say, "The more I seek you, the more I defeat you, opponents."Below is a list with two columns. The first column represents Raiders' wins, and the second represents opponents' wins. Each row represents a different team. Raiders Opponent 7 5 19 19 7 6 20 8 13 8 6 4 60 43 6 5 5 7 2 5 8 6 49 55 19 15 10 4 15 17 5 5 7 4 23 17 ...
With free agency now in full swing, the Oakland Raiders have addressed some nagging issues, with good signings on the offensive line and in the secondary. However, one question that lingers in the minds of fans (or at least in my mind) is the one that asks, "who will ultimately back up Carson Palmer?"While it is still very early on to be considering who will be named the backup spot, here are some familiar and unfamiliar names I think we could see as the No. 2 QB for the Silver and Black. Option No. 1: Terrelle PryorWhen the Raiders took Pryor ...
The Oakland Raiders, under new head coach Dennis Allen, haven't made the greatest start to the first free-agency period without Al Davis leading the franchise.Davis didn't leave Allen with much wiggle room, as the Raiders entered this offseason with some worrisome cap issues.Even prior to the start of free agency, cornerback Stanford Routt was let go after underperforming in comparison to the massive contract he received after the previous season. While the Raiders obviously have their own issues to deal with, those issues are being worsened by the actions of every other team within their division. The Chiefs decided to rub ...
Last year, a player that emerged from obscurity in the Oakland Athletics farm system was third base prospect Stephen Parker.  In 2010 he hit .296, with 21 home runs and 98 RBI, yet coming into 2011 he was still largely overshadowed by fellow prospects Grant Green and Michael Choice.  Despite his breakout 2010 campaign, he solidified his position as the team's third baseman of the future with his consistent and solid play last season.Parker, like Green and Choice, was drafted out of college.  That's usually been Billy Beane's draft philosophy, select players out of college who'll be more prepared for professional ...
In an update published by CSNBayArea.com, it was reported that the recently released CB Shawntae Spencer visited the Raiders on Friday, just a day after he we given his walking papers from the team on the other side of the bay, the San Francisco 49ers.This, while not hugely significant, should be kept in mind for all those pulling for Tracey Porter to don the Silver and Black next year. While Oakland could try and sign both free agents, I only see them signing one. While there's only speculation at this point about who will be signed, and both players only held ...
There just may be someone out there in the Raider Nation who has heard of a transformation that preserves the topologically properties of a set. Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen have made so many changes in the roster, one wonders if the resulting collection of players will look like the talented pool of players that many in the Raider Nation believed in.In some settings there are discussions of fixed points. Those points look like this: f(x) = x.In other words, in the context of the changes in the Oakland Raiders' roster, how many of the guys have a stable position with ...
Throughout the early 2000s and beyond, the Oakland Raiders often divulged in giving huge contracts to players who were sometimes not of an even caliber—be it talent, morale or logic wise. However, as the Reggie Mckenzie and Dennis Allen regime begins their direction of the Raiders, it has been made very clear that frugality is the new mantra of the Raiders. The first victim of the "Great Raider Purge" was CB Stanford Routt, who had signed a massive three-year, $31 million contract with Oakland just a year prior. Routt was one of the most penalized DBs in the league and did an ...
The new regime in Oakland has been thrifty as of late, slashing millions in cap overages and quietly signing starting-caliber players to low-cost contracts. However, the Raiders still have many spots that need to be filled on both sides of the ball. Here are five free agents I think Reggie McKenzie and Dennis Allen should consider taking a look at.Begin Slideshow
