On the fourth day of the 2012 NFL free-agency period, the Oakland Raiders have finally made some moves.  The first move was one that was well anticipated—the release of Kamerion Wimbley. The decision to do so freed up $4.5 million of cap space. The next two moves came shortly after.  First, the Raiders announced the signing of offensive guard Mike Brisiel, formerly of the Houston Texans. He has extensive experience playing in the zone-blocking scheme under offensive coordinator Greg Knapp and offensive line coach Frank Pollack. Brisiel also has experience snapping the ball, which is always great. He signed a deal worth ...
Taking their first steps into free agency, the new Oakland Raiders regime of GM Reggie Mckenzie and head coach Dennis Allen started out strong by signing two players at high-need spots, according to an Associated Press report in The Washington Post. The Raiders first landed ex-Texans guard Mike Brisiel, marking their first signing in free agency. Brisiel, an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State, signed with the Texans in 2006 and had a successful tenure as a starter until breaking his leg during the 2011 season.Without a doubt, he will compete for a starting spot ...
The writing has been on the wall for Kamerion Wimbley and the Oakland Raiders, but it looks like Friday may mark the end of the two sides' business relationship. According to Michael Lombardi of NFL Network on Twitter, the Raiders are expected to release Wimbley sometime Friday before a huge chunk of the 28-year-old linebacker's money becomes fully guaranteed. The two sides had attempted to work out a contract re-structuring, but there were several roadblocks to that happening—most notably the lack of incentive for Wimbley.Given the Raiders' cap situation, releasing Wimbley is a move the team almost has to make. The guaranteed money ...
Free Agency is in full swing and the Oakland Raiders have yet to sign anyone. With needs at cornerback, the Raiders stood in the background and let Cortland Finnegan and Brandon Carr sign with other teams. Other big names have signed as well, which makes you wonder what the Raiders have up their sleeve to help them reach the playoffs in 2012. While some fans choose to panic, I am encouraging my fellow Raider fans not to. The free agents the Raiders have been linked to may not be flashy names, but are more than capable. General Manager Reggie McKenzie ...
The Oakland Raiders aren't making much noise in free agency and will attempt to build through the draft. Missing are five of their original seven draft selections and in their place are five players that may contribute in 2012.A couple more selections may be awarded as compensatory selections, but that is yet to be determined. What is the best and worse case scenarios for the Raiders' 2012 draft? Not only does it depend on the players they draft, but how many they draft and how the players they obtained for those picks perform. 1st Round: Carson PalmerHue Jackson orchestrated a trade that brought Palmer to Oakland. It was ...
NOTE: The article was updated on March 16th, 2012 after the Oakland Raiders released Kamerion WimbleyWith the release of Kamerion Wimbley on Friday March 16th, scouts should already be looking for a replacement through the means of either free agency or the draft. At the moment, one would suspect the latter as a better option. If they elect to find his replacement for cheap, they should look no further than from Wimbley's own alma mater, the Florida State Seminoles.Entering the draft with the honor of being a four-year starter as a 'Nole, Nigel Bradham never put up the kind of stats that ...
Last summer, the Oakland Raiders seemed to be doing all the wrong things in free agency.  Raider Nation was shocked when it had found out All-Pro cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha's contract was void.  Former second overall pick Robert Gallery was demanding a contract that was well above his worth while fan favorite tight end Zach Miller bolted after a short visit with Seattle. Many Raider fans were thinking, "What in the world is going on?"  These guys represented the Raider Nation and Al isn't even trying to re-sign these guys.  Seems like the late Al Davis knew exactly what he was doing, ...
Let's just say that if a man is put into a position of having to play second fiddle, then he has the right to choose when and where.Jason Campbell has left the Oakland Raiders and has signed with the Chicago Bears. He has decided to be the backup quarterback to someone other than Carson Palmer. It's a man's world according to one blues singer, and Campbell made his decision. It's unfortunate that his collarbone injury thrust him into a complex situation. The Oakland Raiders were looking good at the beginning of the season before Campbell's injury. Most fans understood the dilemma that ...
Oakland Raiders new General Manager Reggie McKenzie is trying to build a roster from scratch, even though the team finished with a .500 record last season. After cutting another defensive tackle John Henderson, the team also let go of guard Cooper Carlisle. Carlisle was a veteran and a long-time starter for this team and it signifies that no one on the roster is safe. That is a good message for a team that has suffered through character issues for a long time. Earlier in the offseason the Raiders released talented cornerback Stanford Routt, a move that surprised many. In addition, the team has parted ...
Jason Campbell decided to sign with the Chicago Bears on the first day of free agency, which leaves Carson Palmer as the man in charge of leading the Oakland Raiders.Campbell, who had been the starting quarterback of the team for a year and a half, missed the end of the 2011 season with a broken collarbone. It was always unlikely that Campbell would return to the Raiders, since the team needed to reinforce the fact that Palmer is the starting quarterback. The problem now lies in the fact that Oakland have few options if Palmer fails. When Campbell went down last season, the ...
