Sometimes the starting quarterback and the team differ on which players to draft. Thankfully the quarterback is not in the business of scouting and drafting players and Reggie McKenzie, not Carson Palmer, will determine which players are selected.Palmer should have no complaints if the Oakland Raiders' draft is defense heavy as he inherits a well-built offense. Palmer knows you can never have enough offensive weapons, but the Raiders need depth on defense and are willing to sacrifice a little depth on offense for an improved defense. What players would Palmer like the Raiders to draft? Palmer knows it is all about pressure on ...
As usual, the opening game for the Oakland A's was unsuccessful, falling to the Seattle Mariners 3-1. They escaped Japan with an even record, however, surprising Seattle with three late home runs, two in the seventh inning and and another in the eighth to come out with a 4-1 win.In the Japan Opening Series the A's learned a lot about themselves, some positive, others not so much. Several lessons learned will remain a relevant theme all season long, while others will sort themselves out in the first few months. In the month of April the A's find themselves faced with very ...
With all of the uncertainty in the 2012 offseason, many Oakland Raider fans are wondering how the team will look in 2012. A new OLB, a shuffle of the offensive line and new RB are just a few of the changes that have taken place place so far. And with more moves on the way, it is almost impossible to predict how the roster will exactly look come Week 1 of the 2012-2013 season. However, I think there are several players who, either new or returning, will really get a chance to contribute and show they can be standout players. Here ...
The Oakland Raiders have five draft picks to work with in this month's draft. However, they do not have a first or second round pick. The team has glaring needs in overall depth and the linebacker position, but the lack of quality draft picks means the team will fail their fans in this year's draft. When the Raiders draft in April, they will have one pick in the third round, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Compensatory picks cannot be traded, and the fifth and sixth round picks they initially had don't hold much value. Reggie McKenzie ...
Two straight seasons at 8-8 for the Oakland Raiders, but with a new general manager and head coach in town the team looks to cross the .500 line and head to the playoffs. With the death of owner Al Davis comes great change, and GM Reggie McKenzie started that out quickly. He fired last year's head coach, Hue Jackson, and hired a young man named Dennis Allen, formerly the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator. Then McKenzie cut No. 1 cornerback Stanford Routt, showing that he planned to make a splash—for the better.Several items need to line up for the Raiders to be successful ...
The arrival of Carson Palmer in Oakland signaled the end of Jason Campbell's time in the Bay Area. The Raiders will regret allowing Campbell to leave via free agency at some point this season. Campbell would have helped the Raiders win more football games this season than Palmer ultimately will lead them to this year.If Campbell had never gotten injured, then Oakland probably would have represented the AFC West in the playoffs last seasonCampbell led the Raiders to a 3-2 record, having just beaten the Houston Texans, in Houston. This victory would be the only time the Raiders would be a ...
The Oakland Athletics defeated their Triple-A affiliate, the Sacramento River Cats, in an annual spring training exhibition. A walk, a bloop and a bomb. That seemed to be the pedigree the offense utilized, while the pitching was nearly perfect. Though Oakland won, 9-0, there were many areas of concern for the organization. Most of the runs came via walks and errors. The impressive pitching and final score hid the reality that the A's soundly handled a minor league team. If only it counted. Here are the winners and losers from the Saturday night contest.Begin Slideshow
