The Oakland Raiders finally got a taste of live contact against another team. Unfortunately, the team's performance—particularly on offense—was lacking. The Raiders didn't score, but they did hold the Cowboys to just three points.Had the Raiders made the two field goals they missed on Monday night, it might have even been a victory. Fortunately, the outcome of the game doesn't matter. The Raiders were 0-4 in preseason in 2011 and had two games in which the team scored just three points. At first glance it was ugly, but as Dennis Allen said after a particularly good training-camp practice, "I think coaches ...
The Oakland Raiders are a bit of a mystery entering the 2012 season. The organization has undergone a huge shakeup since the death of long-time team owner Al Davis. New general manager Reggie McKenzie went out of his way to put his imprint on the team by jettisoning head coach Hue Jackson and replacing him with Dennis Allen. Both McKenzie and Allen are in their respective roles for the first time with any organization, so Raiders fans have no idea what to expect.Meanwhile, last night's preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys gave fans their first look at what Oakland will look like ...
The Oakland Raiders haven’t had a winning season since losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl a decade ago. They’ve had seven head coaches since, who’ve combined for a 45-109 record. Their “Commitment to Excellence” has been mocked and renamed to something else that will not be mentioned here.   But is there hope for their long-suffering fans?   Could 2012 be the year that the Raiders bring the pride back to the Bay?   Could the Raiders – gasp - reach the NFL playoffs?   In the mediocre, yet competitive AFC West, it’s quite possible. The ...
When Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor was selected by the Oakland Raiders in the third round of the supplemental draft, it was pretty well understood that the former Buckeye would need a lot of work before he was ready for prime time, so to speak. Last night, Pryor took the field after starter Carson Palmer and his backup Matt Leinart had played—and looked downright terrible as a passer. I say "as a passer" because his amazing athletic ability was still on display. More than once, Pryor took off and made something out of plays that many young quarterbacks simply would have surrendered to the opponent's pass ...
The Oakland Raiders preseason 3-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys was just that, a preseason loss. The fact that the Raiders were shutout, and participated in one of the most difficult games to watch in decades, is inconsequential.Raider Nation should care about the regular season, and hopefully the postseason. Judging by Darren McFadden's performance, it certainly appears that the running game is still firing on all cylinders.DMC had 20 yards rushing and he added 18 yards receiving in the Raiders' first three plays from scrimmage. He looks healthy, but of course the question with McFadden is how long he will ...
With Monday night behind us, Raider Nation looks forward to Friday and another chance to see what's under the hood of this year's Silver and Black Attack as Oakland takes on the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale.I'm saving my speculation on the team for at least four more quarters. It's never fun to watch Carson Palmer throw interceptions, but with the positive performances from the defense and backup running back Lonyae Miller, it just seems fair to wait a few more minutes before dusting off the old bus and throwing half the team under it.Besides, the Raiders have a much more pressing ...
As evident by Week 1 of the preseason, the Oakland Raiders need a lot of offensive help. One of their biggest holes happens to be at wide receiver.Chad Johnson, who was released by the Miami Dolphins after being arrested Saturday night for domestic abuse, happens to be a serviceable wide receiver. Oh by the way, Carson Palmer is the quarterback in Oakland.  Anyone remember the numbers those two put up together in Cincinnati?Chad Johnson was never a Hall of Fame receiver, but he definitely put up decent numbers for several years with Carson Palmer as his quarterback. From 2004-2010, Johnson had three seasons ...
What a disastrous start to Terrelle Pryor’s NFL career. It’s been 20 months since the former Ohio State star was destroying Arkansas in the Sugar Bowl, and his highly anticipated debut was supposed to be must-see TV for Oakland Raiders fans looking for a glimpse into the future. Pryor fell flat on his face Monday night. He finally saw the field in the second half of the Raiders' 3-0 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and he looked like a chicken with his head cut off. Pryor was scrambling on almost every single dropback, and would run five to 10 yards behind ...
Quick Review of 2011 Offense—No. 11 passing, No. 7 rushing, No. 9 total Defense—No. 27 passing, No. 27 rushing, No. 29 total Perhaps, no regular season in Oakland Raiders history was as heart-breaking and frustrating as 2011 was. After posting an 8-8 season in 2010, breaking seven years of losing at least 11 games, and sweeping the AFC West that year, the Raiders were hoping to be contenders last season. With new coach Hue Jackson, the team started 4-2. During that good start, the Raiders lost iconic owner Al Davis. Davis, who held virtually absolute power and had been with ...
There aren't a ton of positives to take away from the Oakland Raiders first preseason game of the year against the Dallas Cowboys, but undrafted rookie Rod Streater was one of the few. The 24-year-old out of Temple has been wowing the Raiders coaching staff in practice, and it has now oozed onto the field. Streater caught six passes for 66 yards in ONE HALF against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, with the longest completion being 18 yards. This doesn’t come as a huge surprise to anyone who has followed the Raiders offseason. The San Francisco Chronicle reported earlier ...
