Update: September 20th at 6:35 p.m. ET.New surrounding Brett Anderson's injury just went from bad to worse, as Joe Stiglich of the Mercury News reports that the A's pitcher is out for the remainder of the season.Injured left-hander Brett Anderson will miss the rest of the regular season, A's manager Bob Melvin said following Thursday's 12-4 victory over the Detroit Tigers.Anderson's right oblique strain is obviously a setback that couldn't come at a worse time for the A's.---End of Update---The Oakland Athletics' magical run to the top of the American League wild-card standings took a hit on Wednesday ...
For the Oakland Raiders and their fans, it's safe to say that Sunday's matchup with the Steelers can't come soon enough.Left with the bitter taste of being upset by the Dolphins on Sunday, Oakland returns to action this weekend to face a 1-1 Steelers team that has played Jekyll and Hyde thus far this season. For the Raiders to reclaim their winning ways and move to 1-2 on the season, there are five key matchups that Oakland needs to focus on. 1) Oakland Offensive Line vs. Pittsburgh Defensive LineWhile most games in the league would list this as a key matchup, no ...
Very few members of Raider Nation were excited when the Oakland Raiders re-hired offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. Knapp brought with him the zone-blocking scheme, which many fans blamed for the struggles of RB Darren McFadden in 2008 and 2009. McFadden excelled under offensive coordinator/head coach Hue Jackson’s more traditional man/drive/power-blocking scheme in 2010 and 2011. With the return of the zone-blocking scheme, it was easy to point to other factors for McFadden's poor performance, such as injuries and a poor offensive line. The excuses made sense, but they are gone now; McFadden is healthy, and the offensive line is much better ...
Through six free agent signings, seven trades, two waiver wire pickups and one outright contract purchase, Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane once again proved his wizardry by putting together a team that defied expectations of being 20 games back in the AL West. Instead, the second-place A's are just 3.5 games behind the AL West-leading Texas Rangers. Oakland holds a one-game lead in the wild-card standings as well. The team wasn't supposed to be here. Beane's annual trades of talented favorites to build for next year drives many fans crazy (not to mention, into tears). Of course, 2012 has been different. ...
Going into Week 3 of the NFL and it is already panic time for the Oakland Raiders and Raider Nation. The rushing offense is, frankly, offensive. The defense has yet to show it can even slow down the run. After two weeks of questions and heartaches, let’s take a look at some of the early Oakland Raider story lines of the 2012 season.Begin Slideshow
In keeping with the theme of surprise players breaking out so far this season, Brandon Myers has earned the distinction of Week 2 star. In Week 1, rookie linebacker Miles Burris received the award. The passing of the torch from one unknown to the next seems eerily fitting, as both the tight end and outside linebacker positions were identified as big question marks heading into the season.Myers broke out this past week against the Dolphins to finish as Oakland's top receiver with six catches for 86 yards, both of which were career highs for the fourth year man from Iowa. With ...
The Oakland Raiders are 0-2, the running game is stuck in reverse and the defense isn’t consistently stopping the offense. In the first two weeks, it has been up to Carson Palmer to lead the Raiders.Although Palmer doesn’t seem like the issue when you look at the other problems the Raiders have, the quarterback always shares the blame when the offense isn’t producing points. Palmer has plenty of problems with his game, and many of the issues are also correctable. Palmer looks like his is making better decisions, and that’s a testament to the coaching of offensive coordinator Greg Knapp ...
Raiders fans are known the world round as the rowdiest most extreme, passionate and devoted fans in all of sports.  Ever hear a sports anchor refer to Red Sox Nation or [insert team name here] Nation well, they got that idea from the Raiders. Here are ten more reasons the Raiders have the best fans in the NFL.Begin Slideshow
With 16 games left in the regular season, nothing is for certain in baseball. Although we are pretty sure who's going to be invited to the Octoberfest known as MLB's postseason—there is still some room for movement. That said, even as a few games essentially shake out the match-ups and home field advantage for the playoffs, it is safe to say bets are being lined up for who may survive the new postseason gauntlet. For me, the more I look, the more I begin to think that the best team in the American League is being chalked up as a dark horse ...
I am, and always will be, an Oakland Raiders fan. Despite the taunts from fans of other teams wanting to know how I can stand to be a fan of the Silver and Black after so many losing seasons, or questioning why I don't start following their team simply because they are winning, even if the Raiders end up at 0-16 this season it doesn't change the fact that I am a Raiders fan.I had high hopes, perhaps too high, during the offseason with the new regime under general manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen. It appears that those ...
