As the 2012 NFL trade deadline rapidly approaches, the Oakland Raiders have some serious decisions to make. The team currently sits at 1-4 and has greatly underperformed in a season that brought excitement with a new identity.Oakland has major flaws on both sides of the ball, and could benefit from some great players in the final years of their deals. Although trades in the NFL aren't nearly as popular as they are in the MLB or the NBA, they can still give that one team the extra push it needs to make a second-half run.Let's take a look at three moves ...
Going into last Sunday, I felt the Raiders has bottomed out in their putrid performance against Denver. In spite of what the prognosticators were saying, I felt Oakland would play a competitive game against the unbeaten Atlanta Falcons. They even exceeded my expectations, outplaying the Falcons more for much of the game, but unfortunately, came up short in a tough 23-20 loss. Now 1-4, this is officially a must-win game if the Raiders want to entertain any notion of a playoff push over the last 11 games. I say that because since the NFL went to a 16-game schedule in 1978, ...
Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis recently said that he is still committed to building a new stadium for his football team in Oakland, according to Paul Gutierrez of CSNBayArea.com; specifically on the current site of the O.co Coliseum where the Raiders currently play as well as the Oakland Athletics of Major League Baseball. The Oakland Coliseum, which opened in the late 1960s, was renovated in 1995 to bring the Raiders back from L.A. where they shared the L.A. Coliseum with the Rams.Despite a remodel 17 years ago, the Coliseum is considered a poor home by NFL stadium standards, and the Raiders have ...
Either the Oakland Raiders or Jacksonville Jaguars will exit Week 7 of the NFL with two wins. I know, that's not exactly breaking news, but it encapsulates the magnitude of this game. While both of these teams are essentially already out of the playoff race, there is still plenty they want to accomplish. The Jaguars enter off a much-needed bye week that followed a two-week stretch in which they were outscored of 68-13. Blaine Gabbert is terrible, and the defense is regressing. They need a better effort, or it is time to start planning for an overhaul. Meanwhile, the Raiders enter off what may ...
Six weeks into the season, I'm not sure if there's another team in the league whose fate is more up in the air than the Oakland Raiders. To outsiders, the Raiders have just one win, have been blown out twice (by Miami and Denver) and are among the worst teams in the league. On one hand, these observers could be right. The Black Hole, however, would be quick to point out that, aside from long-snapping issues in Week 1, the Raiders had a real chance at beating San Diego. Just this past week, Oakland traveled to Atlanta to face the undefeated Falcons, and ...
Though Oakland Athletics general manager Billy Beane has publicly stated his intentions are to keep the roster intact, there are a few guys that should, at the very least, be considered if he decides to shake things up.According to Joe Stiglich of BayAreaNewsGroup.com, Beane had this to say:I think we're in great shape. The satisfying thing about the crowd's response to this team was they're gonna get to see this team, by and large, next year. If there's moves made, the idea would be additions. I've had situations where we had great seasons and I knew the team wasn't gonna ...
Darren McFadden is poised to shred the Jacksonville Jaguars defense.2012 has not been kind to McFadden. With a clean bill of health and with Michael Bush leaving as a free agent, this looked to be the year McFadden would emerge as an elite running back.Outside of his 113-yard, one touchdown performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, McFadden has been a disappointment for fantasy owners. But this week, he's poised for a massive fantasy output.McFadden is matched up against a defense ranked 30th in rushing yards per game. It's the exact kind of game that can kick start his seasonYou can ...
The Oakland Raiders have nothing to lose in 2012.Carson Palmer isn't the reason for the team's woes, but with a record of 1-4 it makes perfect sense to give Terrelle Pryor a shot to see what he's got before the 2013 NFL draft. General Manager Reggie McKenzie has this team in a full-on rebuilding mode. Before the season began, Raiders fans were optimistic about their team's chances, but the sad truth is that there wasn't enough talent on the roster to field a winning team. Now that we're approximately one-third through the season, the proof is in the pudding. Before you go blasting ...
The Oakland Raiders went to Atlanta and did something no one thought they would do and scared the undefeated Falcons. The Raiders intercepted Matt Ryan three times and held the Falcons to just one offensive touchdown. The Raiders improbably slowed down the Falcons and did enough damage of their own to scare the Falcons. The Raiders fell short in large part to three turnovers and 12 penalties, but the team played better than they have all season. Anytime a team can go on the road and nearly beat of the NFL’s elite teams it’s an accomplishment, even if the result ...
The Oakland Raiders head into Week 7 coming off a hard-fought loss to the Atlanta Falcons on the road. Despite the Raiders' best performance of the season, they were unable to get another win in the standings.Oakland has had problems on both sides of the ball this season. Darren McFadden has struggled, and so has the entire defense. It's pretty well set in stone that Oakland will have a favorable draft pick next year. After not having one in 2012, the Raiders have the opportunity to bring in some young talent to add to their rebuilding franchise.Of course, it will all ...
