The Oakland Raiders are certainly one of the first teams that come to mind when one thinks of both history and tradition in the NFL.  Of course, there are many reasons for that, but the most important of which surrounds the players that have donned the silver and black over the years.  The most important criteria for this list include production, length of tenure, contributions to championship teams, and overall legacy.  Here are the 25 greatest players in Oakland Raiders history.Begin Slideshow
The Oakland Raiders turned the page on their 25-game rental of Carson Palmer this offseason, and brought in a pair of inexperienced quarterbacks—Matt Flynn and Tyler Wilson—to compete for the starting job.Flynn, who signed with the Seattle Seahawks a year ago for $10 million guaranteed, was acquired by the Raiders for just a fifth-round pick in 2014 and a conditional pick in 2015. Flynn was the favorite to win Seattle's starting gig last summer, before rookie Russell Wilson won the job and went on to lead the Seahawks to the playoffs. And now, for the second year in a row, Flynn, ...
Early in free agency, Charles Woodson said he wanted to play for a contender. However, the Oakland Raiders are not a contender. Even in the best possible scenario, I don't see Oakland making the playoffs. And I say this as a lifelong Raiders fan who would like nothing more than a trip to the postseason. The talent just isn't there. Despite what is almost certain to be a losing season in Oakland, Woodson won't wind up regretting his decision, and it's not because he didn't have options. Woodson, according to ESPN, wound up signing a one-year deal worth a maximum of $4.3 million that includes ...
There's just not a more simple way of saying it: if the Oakland A's want to reach the postseason, they're going to have to improve in a few areas. Unfortunately, a change in one facet won't make the A's playoff contenders. It's not that easy. Instead, several of the 10 areas listed next must be improved upon for a legitimate shot at progressing toward a World Series. Oakland isn't awful by any means. There's just things the team could do better. Things they must do better. Should the Athletics correct these aspects of their game, October baseball will be a ...
Make no mistake; every NFL team would love to have a Darrelle Revis. Not every team would be willing to take a risk on his knee and pay him what he demands, but every team would love to have his consistent production. Revis is still the prototypical cornerback that everyone wants because he does everything well and can shadow and shut down No. 1 receivers. When looking at the 2013 rookie class, only one has the chance to be the next Revis, and it isn’t the player that replaced him in New York. The next Revis is actually University of ...
Actually, I'll admit that this headline is a little misleading: It's obvious the Oakland Raiders need to trade talented third-year quarterback Terrelle Pryor—perhaps as soon as possible. This probably is not a popular sentiment right now among Raiders fans, myself included. They (we) have seen glimpses of what Pryor can do with his arm and his legs. He's indisputably the most talented quarterback on the roster from a physical standpoint.  Also, with the recent proliferation of the read-option in the NFL, he seems like an ideal candidate to make that trend work for Oakland, while other teams figure out how to stop it.  ...
The Oakland Raiders, led by GM Reggie McKenzie, have had a very busy offseason in which many players were released and replaced by under-the-radar free-agent signings. In Oakland, players like Rolando McClain have been replaced by Nick Roach while Ron Bartell and Shawntae Spencer have been replaced by D.J. Hayden and Tracy Porter. The Raiders' defensive makeover has been so drastic that only three starters are returning on defense. Now, we can technically say they will have four returning starters.According to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press, Charles Woodson will return to the Oakland Raiders on a one-year contract.  Woodson was a Raider from 1998-2005 after ...
Seven-time All-Pro defensive back Charles Woodson and the Oakland Raiders have agreed to a one-year contract. The Raiders made the signing official via Twitter:NFL insider Jay Glazer originally broke the news:Following his meeting with the Raiders on Tuesday, Woodson was seen holding up an Oakland jersey outside of the team's facility. A faithful Raiders fan posted the picture on Twitter:Woodson spent the past seven seasons with the Green Bay Packers after beginning his career with the Raiders. Throughout his nine years with the Raiders, he racked up 17 interceptions and 396 tackles.Winning the Heisman Trophy historically hasn't guaranteed excellence in the NFL, but ...
The Oakland Raiders continue to move forward as an organization under owner Mark Davis, who has made bold changes since his father Al Davis passed away. One of those recent decisions was to limit the authority of longtime CEO Amy Trask, who ultimately decided to step away from the organization. Trask's void leaves a vacancy at one of the more unique positions in professional sports. A CEO of a professional franchise goes beyond the personnel decisions that are made through the front office. The task is to generate profit and help make a respectable franchise that can be marketed. The next ...
Monday marks the beginning of organized team activities (OTAs) for the Oakland Raiders, and with some media access, fans will have their first taste of the 2013 team that general manager Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen have put together thus far.  While OTAs are extremely early in the process, and very little stock should be put into the performance of players in which, it is a key part of the process nonetheless. As a rebuilding team, the Raiders will look to kick off their offseason workouts the right way and build some momentum. These first on-field activities of ...
