Since moving to Oakland in 1968, the Athletics have consistently churned out star-studded teams, winning four World Series and making the playoffs 16 times.
The A's have built dynasties on the backs of homegrown players, who inevitably leave for higher paychecks elsewhere. A young core carried the A's in the early 1970s, late 80s, early 90s and early 2000s.
Teams were ranked on the players' production that year, with little focus on postseason success. A good team will consistently play well over the course of a season, but can be booted from the playoffs after a couple bad games.

While out for Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden's 26th birthday, cornerback Taiwan Jones was issued a challenge: jump over a BMW to collect $200.
As you can see in the above video, posted by Raiders safety Tyvon Branch to Instagram, Jones won that bet.Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
The final week of the preseason means that teams will start finalizing their rosters and depth charts for Week 1. The Oakland Raiders have carried 90 players on their roster all summer, but they have to get that number down to 53 in the coming days.
While the depth chart might not change much for a good team between now and Week 1, it could change a lot for a team like the Raiders. Several roster spots are up still up for grabs and could be filled by cuts from other teams. The Raiders may choose to keep their home-grown talent, likely on ...
In Jarrod Parker's second season as a starting pitcher for the Oakland Athletics he has emerged as a young star thanks to an impressive arsenal of pitches.
Parker has been untouchable since May 22, compiling a 8-0 record, 2.48 ERA and 0.98 WHIP over 16 starts. He's gathered nationwide attention for besting All-Stars like Chris Sale, Yu Darvish and Chris Tillman.
All of Parker's pitches have some combination of pinpoint accuracy, breathtaking speed and sharp movement, which have helped him erase all memories of his rough April.

Parker sets the pace with a four-seam fastball that can dance up to the mid-90s, impressive ...
As the season winds down, Oakland's farm clubs continue to give ample opportunity for future stars to enhance their abilities and develop as they move incrementally towards playing in the major leagues. Some of the most noteworthy players in the organization bounced back from a rough week to produce with numbers more in line with their overall production in 2013.
It is worth noting that a couple of prospects (Miles Head and Michael Ynoa) are out with injuries. And even more noteworthy, one currently is hoping to help deliver the A's back to the postseason. With that, here is a list ...
Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor made a serious push for the starting job in the team's third preseason game against the Chicago Bears. Prior to the game, Matt Flynn appeared to be firmly entrenched as the starter, but he threw two interceptions and the offense stalled.
Pryor brought life to the offense by orchestrating four scoring drives and bringing the Raiders within a touchdown after being down 27-0. It was apparent to anyone watching that Pryor played a lot better than Flynn and gave the whole team a spark.
Of course, preseason performances can be deceiving and the Raiders have yet to name ...
It has been reported by Scott Bair of CSN California that Terrelle Pryor will start for the Oakland Raiders at Seattle in the preseason finale. Pryor last started for Oakland in the regular-season finale in 2012 at San Diego.
After the Raiders traded for Matt Flynn, drafted Tyler Wilson and signed undrafted free agent Matt McGloin, it seemed that Oakland's general manager Reggie McKenzie was looking for options besides Pryor to start for the Raiders on September 8 in Indianapolis.
Pryor has come a long way to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. He went through a six-game suspension from ...
Terrelle Pryor gave Oakland Raiders fans something to be excited about in the Raiders' third preseason game, a 34-26 losing effort against the Chicago Bears.

When the Oakland Raiders traded two draft picks to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Matt Flynn in April, they did so with the intention of having him lead their offense in 2013.
But some questionable play from Flynn during the preseason and a strong performance from third-year signal-caller Terrelle Pryor in the team's last outing against the Chicago Bears has the starting quarterback job in Oakland seemingly up for grabs.Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
The third preseason game is typically the one NFL teams put the most stock into. Therefore, Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen wasn't pleased by what he saw from starting quarterback Matt Flynn on Friday night.
Flynn, the team's most notable offseason acquisition, struggled from the start, completing just three passes, throwing two interceptions and finishing with a passer rating of 17.4.
However, Allen had to be thrilled to see backup signal-caller Terrelle Pryor spark the offense late in the first half and throughout much of the third quarter.
Pryor completed 7 of 9 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown and picked ...
