Erin's Oakland Sport Picks

Archive

Archive for September, 2013
Coming into the season, the Denver Broncos were Super Bowl favorites and the Oakland Raiders were favorites to get the No. 1 overall pick next April. Not much has changed in two weeks except that the Raiders beat the Jacksonville Jaguars and are no longer the favorite to land Teddy Bridgewater (although Jadeveon Clowney is still a possibility). ESPN's Monday Night Football game appears to be a real David vs. Goliath matchup; the nigh unbeatable Peyton Manning and his posse of talented receivers against the flawed Terrelle Pryor and a ragtag group of veteran defensive castoffs.  Bleacher Report's expert panel has the Broncos winning by an average ...
Any hopes that the Oakland Raiders have of beating Denver in Week 3 come down to their ability to get to Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning. Defensive end Lamarr Houston could be the key piece to that that puzzle. One of only two starters remaining from last season and the only one healthy enough to play Monday night at Mile High Stadium, Houston will be facing Denver left tackle Chris Clark. In one of the game’s key matchups. Clark was thrust into the Broncos lineup earlier this week when Ryan Clady was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury. An undrafted player ...
Terrelle Pryor managed to win the Oakland Raiders' starting quarterback job during the preseason and has been surprisingly effective in his first two games of the season. Howie Long from Bleacher Report's Behind the Mic sat down to tell us what he thinks about the young quarterback's impact on the Raiders so far. Let us know what you think about Pryor in the comments section below.Read more Oakland Raiders news on BleacherReport.com
The Oakland Raiders built a little momentum with better-than-expected performances in the first two weeks of the season. Monday night’s game in Denver will likely offer a more accurate assessment of where second-year coach Dennis Allen’s team stands. The Broncos own the most prolific offense in the NFL behind quarterback and future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning. The 37-year-old Manning has put up ridiculous numbers this season while guiding an offense that has already scored 90 points in only eight quarters. The matchup with Manning offers an interesting clash in styles between the Denver quarterback and the Raiders defense. Oakland has built most ...
While the Oakland Athletics may not duplicate their 15 walk-off wins from last season, 2013 has had no shortage of last-gasp wins. The A's have won games on home runs, singles, walks and even errors, beating some of baseball's best relief pitchers in the process. Josh Donaldson hit the A's eighth walk-off last night in the 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. His recent game-winner was impressive but doesn't come close to topping the list.Begin Slideshow
Through the first two weeks of the regular season, the Oakland Raiders have the most productive running game in the NFL. That’s no easy accomplishment when considering the state of the team’s passing attack and that defenses are coming into games with a clear emphasis on taking away the ground game.  A large chunk of the running game’s success is due to quarterback Terrelle Pryor. Pryor’s ability to run the spread-option has made the Raiders more explosive offensively. His ability to run has made them far more difficult to defend. Yet in this day and age of pass-heavy and option offenses, even ...
The Oakland Raiders head into their Week 3 Monday Night Football matchup with the Denver Broncos at 1-1 on the season. The Raiders have put together solid performances on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball, but the Broncos present a far more difficult match up than any other seen thus far.  Going up against a Broncos defense that is currently the league’s best against the run, the Raiders will need to have another big day on the ground, similar to that of this past week against Jacksonville. Here are the full Week 3 stat predictions for the Oakland Raiders offensive ...
It's no surprise the Oakland Athletics are playing well as a unit; it's just a bit surprising who's leading the charge. Likewise, guys who were originally expected to propel the A's toward the postseason haven't quite gotten the job done. The team has a bit of everything. There's guys like Grant Balfour who have dominated, but it isn't a surprise. There's men like Jarrod Parker and Yoenis Cespedes who've had some ups and down but overall they've had decent years. Players like A.J. Griffin aren't having the best of years, but it's neither a surprise nor a disappointment. To make it on this ...
The Oakland Raiders took another step forward this season by beating Jacksonville in their home opener. Now coach Dennis Allen and his team will get a litmus test when they go on the road to play at Denver on Monday night.Peyton Manning and the Broncos are off to an impressive start; after just two weeks, they’re already being talked about as a Super Bowl contender. For the Raiders, the game represents a chance to establish themselves as an early contender in the AFC West. Here are a few things to consider heading into the Week 3 matchup between the two division rivals: Division ...
Save for a few breakdowns offensively, the Oakland Raiders did just about what was expected in their 19-9 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2. They got decent enough play from the quarterback, a much-needed resurgence from Darren McFadden and a stellar performance from the defense, despite losing safety Tyvon Branch to an ankle injury early in the game. All of it was encouraging for a team that now faces a much stiffer test Peyton Manning and the red-hot Denver Broncos, who have won three straight in the series between AFC West rivals. Before looking ahead to the Mile High matchup, we offer ...
