The Oakland A's and Detroit Tigers are headed to Game 5 to determine the winner of their ALDS series and the right to challenge the Boston Red Sox in the ALCS for a spot in the World Series. We know who Jim Leyland is choosing to start for Detroit in this do-or-die fifth game.  The 2011 Cy Young winner, Justin Verlander, will take the mound for the Tigers in Oakland on Thursday night.   Meanwhile, A's manager Bob Melvin is yet to determine his starter for this must-win game, but it is clearly down to two options: Bartolo Colon and Sonny Gray. Both ...
The Oakland A's have been here before.  For a second year in a row, the A's are slated to face off against Justin Verlander in Game 5 of the ALDS. Recent history is not on Oakland's side, but the club is glad to be playing Game 5 at the O.co Coliseum. As table-setter Coco Crisp explained to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle: “It’s good to have the home-field advantage...I don’t know if they can get any louder than it was the last time. If they can top that, that would be amazing.” Crisp's question won't be answered until game time. So, here are ...
When Rashad Jennings’ sore hamstring forced him to join Darren McFadden on the sidelines during the Week 5 win over San Diego, the Oakland Raiders weren’t sure how their backfield would hold up. Marcel Reece not only kept the ground game going, he just might have given the coaching staff a solid blueprint for the rest of the season. Reece had been mostly overlooked through the first four games, and it seemed like offensive coordinator Greg Olson was content using the veteran fullback strictly as a lead blocker. To anyone who had watched Reece over the past three years, it made ...
The Oakland Athletics are one win away from clinching the 2013 American League Division Series against the Detroit Tigers and will have to go through Tigers starting pitcher Doug Fister if they want to do so in Game 4, which will start at 5:07 p.m. ET on October 8. Fister finished the regular season with a 14-9 record and a 3.67 ERA. Fister will have to contend with an Athletics team that has turned up the heat as of late.  After scoring a combined three runs in their first two games of the series, Oakland eventually scored six against Tigers pitcher Anibal ...
Having stunned the San Diego Chargers, with their best overall performance of the season, the Oakland Raiders get another crack at making up ground in the AFC West when they travel to Kansas City for another critical division showdown in Week 6. The undefeated Chiefs might be the biggest surprise in the entire NFL behind quarterback Alex Smith and coach Andy Reid, who together have helped transform a franchise that has had more downs than ups over the past several seasons. Oakland does have history on its side, however. The Raiders have won six straight at Arrowhead Stadium and eight of 11 ...

The Oakland Athletics are now one win away from clinching the 2013 American League Division Series after defeating the Detroit Tigers, 6-3, in Game 3. They now hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five series. After the previous game in this matchup, a great pitchers' duel, resulted in a 1-0 final, the offenses came alive in this one. Coco Crisp led the way with three hits, and Oakland showcased its balance as six different players scored runs in the victory. Starting pitcher Jarrod Parker did enough on the mound to earn the win with five innings of three-run ball, although he was helped ...
According to John Breech of CBSSports.com, Matt Flynn is no longer an Oakland Raider. After Flynn was traded away from Seattle for a few draft picks in April, he'll most likely be moving on to his third team since heading to the Seahawks as a free agent in March 2012.  Being released from a team is never a good thing. Being released from the Oakland Raiders because you were outplayed by Terrelle Pryor has to be even worse.  It seems that the Raiders coaching staff couldn't even put a finger on what it was that Flynn was missing, but Dennis Allen explained ...

Did anyone catch the end of the Oakland Raiders-San Diego Chargers game Sunday night? You cannot be blamed if you didn’t, considering it was the latest West Coast game in NFL history. A scheduling conflict with the Oakland Athletics ended up pushing the Raiders game back to 11:35 EDT, as the groundskeepers needed more time to shift the Coliseum from A’s territory to a Raiders Nation pit. Here is video of the full transformation, which was spotted by Kyle Wagner of Deadspin. As the last remaining MLB/NFL flex stadium in the nation, it’s pretty cool to see the shift in one time-lapse shot. As ...
