Though Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell appears to be a runaway for AL Manager of the Year, Oakland A's manager Bob Melvin has a strong case to pull off the upset. The Baseball Writers' Association of America announced the three candidates: Farrell, Melvin and the Cleveland Indians' Terry Francona. The winner will be announced on Tuesday, Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. ET on the MLB Network. Of course there are those who will claim he has no chance, so let's take a look at the others first. In fact, this tweet doesn't even list Melvin in the debate:   In his first year ...
A second straight loss to a sub-.500 team has put a serious dent into whatever hopes the Oakland Raiders had of turning their season around. There is still time, of course. First, coach Dennis Allen’s team needs to do something it hasn’t yet achieved: win a road game. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor’s apparent regression over the past month has raised the question of whether undrafted backup Matt McGloin should be given a shot at running the offense. Barring injury, that’s not likely to happen, but it does illustrate the seriousness of the Raiders’ current situation. Pryor gets another shot at turning the offense around ...
Whatever momentum the Oakland Raiders built by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 8 has been completely wiped out and replaced with a two-game losing streak that has knocked Dennis Allen’s team one step closer to the basement in the AFC. Two big turnovers by quarterback Terrelle Pryor and an uneven performance from the offense negated whatever positives came out of the 24-20 loss to the New York Giants. A week after the defense allowed a record-tying seven touchdown passes, Oakland played much better and held Giants quarterback Eli Manning to another mediocre afternoon. The special teams also came up with an ...
It lasted four games and it was fun, but the days of Terrelle Pryor looking like the Oakland Raiders' long-term option at quarterback are gone. Four games gone to be precise, but it took a month for confirmation. On a windy Sunday in New Jersey, Pryor successfully erased all the hope and optimism he brought to the Raiders during the early part of the season. The Raiders lost 24-20 to the New York Giants because of Pryor's poor passing performance—his fourth in a row. When Pryor was named the starter in Week 1, he had 16 games to prove he was the ...
The Oakland Raiders will be able to point to several different things that led to their 24-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 10. Tracy Porter won’t be one of them. Paired up against wide receiver Victor Cruz for most of the game, Oakland’s veteran cornerback responded with his best game of the season and picked up a touchdown along the way when he intercepted an Eli Manning pass and took it to the house. The Raiders’ entire secondary played better, a week after getting torched by Philadelphia’s Nick Foles for seven touchdown throws. Manning, a two-time Super Bowl winner, figured ...
Another big start wasted, another trip to the East Coast ending in futility. The Oakland Raiders are quickly running out of time to make any type of move in the AFC, and their 24-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 10 only makes things worse. Dennis Allen’s team shook off a home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles a week earlier and had the Giants on the ropes for most of the afternoon thanks to a stout effort by the Raiders defense and special teams. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor and the offense couldn’t make it hold up, however. A week after racking ...
The Oakland Raiders (3-5) were defeated 24-20 by the New York Giants (2-6) in a Week 10 matchup at MetLife Stadium.  Game Analysis for the Oakland Raiders Pass Offense: Quarterback Terrelle Pryor finished the game 11-for-26 for 122 yards. He also threw a critical interception that set up a Giants touchdown. Pryor was sacked four times on the day. It appeared as though the knee injury hampered his performance.  Run Offense: Running back Rashad Jennings had a very solid day, carrying the ball 20 times for 88 yards. He ran downhill and was the lone bright spot for the Raiders offense. Pryor added five carries for ...
Tracy Porter has been the Oakland Raiders’ most consistently productive defensive back while playing primarily in the slot this season. That’s why coach Dennis Allen declined to shuffle Porter to the outside in nickel and dime situations this week, even though rookie cornerback D.J. Hayden has been sidelined with a groin injury. One of the team’s top offseason additions, Porter will continue to work at right cornerback in the base defense for the Raiders’ Week 10 matchup against the New York Giants. However, as has been the case all season, Porter will also slide inside, where he’ll square off against Giants ...
The Oakland Raiders don’t have much time to lick their wounds after allowing an NFL record-tying seven touchdown passes to Philadelphia quarterback Nick Foles in Week 9. Two-time Super Bowl champion Eli Manning and the New York Giants are next on tap, and if Dennis Allen’s team isn’t careful, this once encouraging season could get ugly in a hurry. The Giants have won two straight following an 0-6 start and are coming off a bye. While there are still issues on both sides of the ball for New York, the defense noticeably improved over the last two games and is finally ...
After Terrelle Pryor's first four starts of 2013 as the starting quarterback of the Oakland Raiders, it appeared as though he could be the future of the franchise. Pryor completed 68.3 percent of his passes with four touchdowns and two interceptions in those starts. In the past three games, Pryor has completed just 53.2 percent of his passes with one touchdown and seven interceptions. It's pretty clear that Pryor has either regressed as a passer or the Raiders were just able to hide his deficiencies for the first few games. Pryor's ability to make plays with his feet is second to none, ...
